| Quote ="vastman"Not how I understand it, being triple vaccinated does offer you protection against Omnicron in the same way it does against the others, ie it improves your bodies immune response giving you a much-improved ability to fight it off.
Omnicron so far doesn't appear more lethal, just more transmissible. So far we have been lucky in that none of the variants has been more deadly than the first, should the next mutation do this then we may be in bother as the time lapse between a revised vaccine to become available may be too long. Hence the semi lockdown.
Whatever, Covid remains a very scary beast.'"
Think you have misunderstood my point. I was highlighting that a friend's relative had delta in the summer and now has the new one so there is a question mark on relying on immunity from having another variant may not work. I think they no more hence the push to increase the immunity with the booster programme

The regulations have been published:
Cat A: venues listed in Schedule 1 (will come to that)
Cat B: "is attended, or is likely to be attended, at any point" by 500 or more people indoors or partly indoors and partly outdoors
Cat C: Outdoors with 4,000 or more people
Cat D: events with over 10,000 people
Category B events require that the 500+ people "are likely to stand or move around" during the event, and that *doesn't* include going to the toilet or getting food or drink.

| Quote ="Deeeekos"I come in peace. Been reading this thread with interest and also wondered as to how they might be implemented.
This comes on the day that it appears the government website ran out of test kits apparently and with supply chains and actual contracts being what they are who knows what the availability of tests will actually be in the new year.
As regards capacity, it would be interesting to see how different grounds can/will interpret the rather odd rules. Will they simply go off total capacity, go off a general average of overall crowd, or is there scope to treat each stand as a separate entity?
Personally, logical fallacy or not, I'm not a fan of these types of measures in general, where they are heading or the division they are already clearly sewing and I too am waiting to buy my season ticket based on what will be invoked.'"
Its a tough question as there are bound to be extra costs to manage it, whether its devices to check covid passports or extra people to manage the queues.
To a club like Wakefield, the last thing we need is extra cost. But if it gets us a crowd in, then its probably worth it.
Now I think about it, I can't remember whether someone scanned my pass when I went to Wembley or just looked at it and let me through. I think they scanned at Wimbledon but not at Wembley. Anyone else go and remember what they did?

| Vaccine passports do not stop you contracting the Corona virus, they are just a nasty form of control that the goverment are, and have been introducing little by little over the last 20 months or so. By the way latest figures up to October this year for mean / average age of deaths involving Covid [i.e. Covid mentioned on death certificate, but also not necessarily primary cause of death in England is just over 82 years .
So are all these restrictions / lockdowns / social distancing / mask wearing / vaccine jabs / working from home / shutting down of the economy etc really about a virus that over 99 per cent of the population if you are unlucky enough to contract it,will survive.

| How is a passport controlling me?
It is something that is just made available to you.
Effectively a digital version of the card you get when you get the jab.

| What everyone is missing (well done mainstream media), is that you do NOT need a vaccine passport to, for example, go to a match.
You DO need to have done a negative LFT in the previous 2 days.
However, if you are fully vaccinated, you are EXEMPT from the requirement to show a negative test.

Oh my lord yes.
Everyone wants Boris taken to task but for me, he's been almost half decent compared to the media, especially the BBC, I'd now believe Fox news before this bunch of hysterical self-serving bunch of virtue signalling twerps.
I pick on the BBC in particular because we fund it and it's meant to be unbiased, it's written into its constitution!
The amount of misinformation to come out of these once trusted new organisations has been diabolical. It's been contradictory, confrontational and designed to be sensational rather than helpful in any way.
If the PM and his ministers ever face the courts over this, sat next to them should be many a TV news editor and journalist IMO, lies are lies no matter where they come from and it's certainly NOT freedom of the press, it's an utter scandal.

ITV and BBC news programmes are more interested in trying to make the news rather than reporting it.

Been an ongoing issue for years since the dreadful Kate Adie made herself the centre of attention.
However, in the last few years, the BBC and ITN have decided to set the agenda then preach it relentlessly.
I watch GB news now, it too is flawed and has an agenda but at least seems grounded in reality. However, what I'd really like is for the BBC, in particular, to do what it once did brilliantly. Tell the new using facts and interviews only where necessary. No message or opinion, utterly emotionless, treating its viewers like adults who can make up their own minds. It's not difficult unless you're a liberal poser.

| I'm in my early forties and fully jabbed, but I am vehemently against anything being 'forced' upon somebody without justification. If your justification is that you think that person is going to cause death and suffering then you're clearly blinded by the media spin. COVID is not the leading cause of early death. The leading causes of early death are related to lifestyle - we eat too much rubbish, we drink too much and we smoke too much, all at the same time as not getting any exercise. As well as early death this puts the NHS under the most pressure. We're all guilty of it despite all the warnings we've had for the last 100 years, but still we do nothing.
The funny thing is, we aren't forcing people to go jogging, fining them for £10,000 for drinking and smoking, or calling them idiots for being obese. Apparently that is inhumane, but somehow discriminating against someone who doesn't want a vaccine is okay... There's nowt as queer* as folk. To use an analogy, how many people would attend RL matches if we asked them to show proof of exercise, correct weight and no beer consumption?
*For those engaged in Social Media virtue-signalling, I'd like to clarify this is an old phrase from the North of England, not an attack on anyone from the LGBTQ+ community

| I can't argue with what you say Easywire, except being fat doesn't hurt anyone else. Passing covid on does.
And being at an acceptable weight to watch rugby might actually get me in shape for a change.

Smoking is banned in many spaces and you don't breathe obesity onto other people.
And it's not only about cases/deaths - without controlling covid, the NHS will cease to exist. There will be no-one getting treated for anything, end of.

| After watching all these "factual" TV medical documentaries in Barnsley and Hull Accident and Emergency Departments, and the like, perhaps the NHS could provide more time for worthy cases rather than spending money and resources patching up those that spend Friday and Saturday nights knocking seven bells out of each other.

That’s an assumption that both parties were guilty. My experience was that in most cases one was an aggressor and the other a victim.
Hardly seems fair denying treatment to someone who was effects mugged whilst enjoying a drink.

No you miss my point.
Yes, that's what covid is about (cases/deaths), but I'm referring to the subsequent consequences to indirectly unrelated areas.
The impacts elsewhere - if covid isn't managed, the NHS will be overrun and crumble.
My wife runs a specialist ward at Pinders - they are 1 staff member away from CLOSING the whole unit. That's a specialist ward that will no longer exist. And there is no-where else to send their patients.
