| We may have been poor in areas regarding kicking, some discipline and execution. But rules are rules the restart must be taking on the 20m centre spot therefore no try. Also you can see on sky that miller's pass is knocked forward by sarginson onto tupou. Therefore a knock on and no try. Sky TV would have ruled these out on a video review and therefore we win the game. On another note Hampshire is absolutely wasted on the wing.

| Quote ="Scarlet Pimpernell"I was not able to attend the game but listened to it on the radio. I got the impression that Brough as the game went on just reverted to type. I note that two of the tries came from kicks other than by Brough. I guess the coach was a little too quick in his Brough gratification after one game. The evidence suggests he just slipped back into his old ways.
I may be wrong but that is how it sounded, and to make matters worse I cannot view the tries on sky because I am not in the UK.'"

| After all the postings on this thread, who's defending bad refs now ? This keeps happening to us, this is NOT imagination ! Even Chester is not happy, but I suppose certain people will defend him, he made us tap on the right cross on the 20, he let wigan off by 6 meters ? Fact, not fiction, wigan were constantly off side by a meter or more, northstanders going mad, fact not fiction !
However, he is not the cause of us losing overall, but he did well compound the issue & result, this is not saints & roundabouts, it's all one way, we don't win matches with dubious calls by the referee.
Onwards & upwards, if they will let us !

Ah!, but Mr Ganson says that we MUST respect and accept the referees, even when one of our players gets smacked in the face and the penalty is given against us.
Some better attack and good defence from us in the second half, but the Wigans, Saints and Leeds' of this world will always get the rub of the green from referees. Sorry Mr Ganson, but I have little, or no respect for your associates.

| Well just had a good look at the trys.
1. First Wigan try looks an obvious double knock on. Blame the ref but also the touch judge.
2. Tap 20 try he was way off the mark. Tangata was clearly pointing that out to ref . However they say play to the whistle and if we had done that we may have made the takle. Having said that it was an howler by the ref in the first instance.
3. BJB try looked a bit dodgy. Video ref may have over ruled that one.
4. Last try, he pushed his own player to the side to score. Forgot the game but in the last two weeks I have seen a try disallowed because the scoring player just brushed his own player with an elbow (was it in the final ?)

| That last try was a double movement. 100s saw it and officials missed it. Ball carrying arm hit floor and he raised and put it over. 3 x try’s and 18 points. Even taking 4 points for bishop off it’s 14 points swing and a win that could and should have been.

I'd add to that Millers try for us came from a forward pass in the build up from Tanginoa. The refereeing for both sides was shocking.
BUT that is not the reason we lost, we managed that all by ourselves.

Re point 4, it was in the final, Warrington not given the try as a consequence of what the referee thought he saw. But your point still stands.

| Well then, would we have won that game if it had been a televised match ?
We shall never know , but from what I have seen its a fair assumption that three of the Wigan trys would have been disallowed and probably one of ours. However, lets not forget the video ref can only be used if the on field official makes the call. Do you think Mr M would have done that today, I would not bank on it.

| Some atrocious decisions...the one to penalise Miller when Sarginson lashed out after being smashed by Tanginoa was ridiculous...the Marshall tap was a real gamebreaker for me though, put them 6 clear that we couldn’t peg back. The annoying thing is he was heading straight for the mark but saw a huge gap so at the last second changed direction and tapped from the wrong place...Randell was positioned perfectly to make the tackle if he’d tapped from the right spot.
I also saw him put both hands in the air signaling to stop the clock when we were dropping out...did he forget there’s now a countdown clock? By the letter of the law he should have sin binned Hampshire too for throwing the ball at their player...pedantic I know but he saw it and called him out for it so should have carded him as I’ve see players binned for that before...there’s just no consistency...
If it’s right what they say though about decisions evening themselves out...we must be owed from bad decisions this week and Warrington were on the end of a few calls go their way in the cup final so we should get the rub of the green Friday! Thinks it’s time we were given Thaler...

Think we had our token Thaler game early in the season, so probably due again sometime around 2022. However if we are to have him ,would prefer the week after against London

The ball was knocked on into Sarginson and then it bounced back towards our try line, so only one knock on and that was by Wakefield.

| Didn’t realise how fast Randall was tracking back and almost catching Marshall when doing his now infamous tap and go, didn’t make much difference in the outcome but showed great commitment from the guy .

| Yes...when you compare Randell’s effort to that of Escare for Marshall’s first try you have to wonder whether Escare really is as quick as he’s made out to be or whether he couldn’t be bothered with the chase because he was left for dead and disappeared out of the picture?

Who's paying for this? I'm amazed none of you have mentioned Tangata for the Marshall 20m restart try. He's in a fine position to make a tackle, then none of us would be talking about it. Instead of making the tackle he opts to ignore Marshall running towards him and complain to the ref instead. Playing to the whistle is u12s stuff.
I agree it's shouldn't have been awarded by the way, and that the first try was a knock on by Sarginson. However, the BJB one wasn't grounded and I don't see a double movement in the Powell one. The pass looks OK for your other try IMO. So we had two incorrect tries, you had one. Purely looking at points we therefore win 12-10, but I appreciate the 'different game if that doesn't happen' argument, particularly as our two incorrect tries were from long range.

The tap call was massively infuriating.
We see the tap have to be re taken in just about every game of the season and he wasn't even close to the mark.
He took a chance and got away with it but, it's an absolute howler by the ref.

U12s clubs usually install good fair play ethics as a discipline and junior refs and players will know where a restart will be taken from according to the rules of the game.

IMO...at the game and looking from the Northstand, the gap Marshall went through looked wider than it does on that camera angle from the highlights and don’t think Tangata was close enough to lay a hand on as it happened so quickly...you’ve a forward trying to get back into position against a winger on the run who changes direction at the last second when he spots the gap!
Why can’t we have video ref at every game? How much do you think this would cost in this day and age, seriously?
BJB looked to get it down to me from the trinity tv footage from behind the goal...on the sky sports highlights and at the game looking from behind I didn’t think it was a try but looks fine from the other footage from behind the sticks...
Same with Powell’s...looks ok from behind on sky sports highlights but at the game in the Northstand it looked the most blatant double movement you will ever see?

| Can anyone say where the referee should stand at a restart. Not sure myself but surely not directly opposite where the play should take place. So if Mr M got that part correct and stood 6, 7, 8 metre from the centre then that makes it ideal for Marshall to run straight at the referee.
