| That was a long time ago. I can't see that impacting any planning permission.

Indeed, but the fact there is still something there is the precedent. The much maligned portacabins may just have retained rights for the height we may need to get a decent structure in place.

| I don't think there'll be an issue...you can't object to planning permission because it spoils your view, only if it blocks light from your property. As the houses have long gardens, and are oriented so that the path of the sun wouldn't be blocked by any development, there's no grounds for objection on that score.

Good points.
And I agree with Klav, the precedent has been set by the cabins.
It's more about time. Any objections will inevitably slow down the build, and impact on SL and IMG.
So it's in our interest to create as lower impact structure as is possible, but still big enough to suit our needs, show willing in other words.

| I don't think it needs to be that big anyway. It's not like we need another version of the Neil Fox Stand.
I think it needs to be covered and as long as possible.
If its standing it needs better concrete. If there's seating it doesn't have go be the whole width so that there are still options to stand. Much like the old one.
In terms of planning, I don't think it would need to be taller than two story house and houses would get planning permission there.

The front needs to start at ground level and be a lot steeper than it is now.
I've not stood on the West Terrace for over 15 years prior to last season, I don't remember the view being so bad but it was awful even after they moved the dugouts. It might not get us many IMG points, but it could definitely be more attractive to away fans.

Excellent point, we should be aiming to provide a modern enjoyable experience for everyone in the ground...even visiting supporters. The view from there is shocking, even if you're 6 foot tall! Having said that, it wouldn't be top of my 'To Do' list. And I'd save a section of crappy terracing for Leeds supporters.

| Here are 2 options that I know will work, because the people who built them at Maidstone United came up and gave JM a quote. I don't know the price, he didn't say, but I do know they are one of the cheapest options out there AND THEY DEFINITELY FIT. They are modular and much of it arrives pre-assembled.

The terrace option
The posher seated version with rear boxes.

My mistake, I should have said cost effective, no modern stands are cheap.
You're hopefully correct, and we get something really interesting. I used these as example of the kinds of configurations the space provides, rather than actual designs we should adopt.

| I might be on my own but if we improve the West to this extent I'd make that home crowd and give North Stand to away fans.
I know people like the atmosphere but it could be transferred and the view will be much better.

Well if things go really well and the crowds do flock back, then we the home fans can have both the North and West sides of the ground, and we will have to build a new South stand for the away fans. We can live in hope.
Out of interest, my father in law always told me that in the sixties and seventies the South stand was the home end, and the North was for away fans. I don't know if this is correct, but if so it means there is no historical precedent that the home fans need to be in the North stand.

| Ends always swapped . The south stand seemed more popular for home fans.
When it rained everybody make a quick run to get under cover.
Also the local boot boys liked it.

Yes back in the day, the home/away support was less evident as the fans tended to mingle far more. But you are correct ,swapping ends seemed to be the big factor and it happened at all grounds to some extent.
At Belle Vue it could take about the whole of half time to just get through the tunnel at the back of the old main stand.
The reason the South was so popular was that it was the only covered standing area.

| Quote ="Prince Buster"I think Wigan have some form of link with Orrell'"
Whelan gave Wigan the ground in Orrell when he booted the Union team out, in the last couple of years Wigan have moved into Robin Park Arena, next to the DW Stadium. Leneghan pumped a lot of money into doing the place up, and it now serves as the club's training facilities, pitch for the non 1st team games, club shop & fan village on match days.
I'm sure I read someone say Matt Ellis had been looking at the setup at Wigan as part of the dual registration negotiations, but I may have imagined that.

He would be daft not to, and he doesn't strike me as a fool. He's also been looking at Leeds' hospitality offerings too.

What I like about Ellis is he's focusing on the elite.
Wigan training and pathways programme is top notch as is the hospitality at Leeds.
Some would just go to one club for it all but he targets the best.
