Could well be a crowd arround 10/11k, but a lot of the announced figures have seemed a lot lower than seemed to have actually been in so I wouldn't be surprised if we only announced 7.5k

Ponte races! Party in the park! Just goes to show why we have such poor attendances. Can't imagine anyone I know who supports the Trin preferring to go to either of these events. The Wakefield public will make any excuse for not attending games, it's pathetic.

little harsh the races attracts a lot of middle aged supporters who tend to make a day of it - but i would hope given the nature of this fixture it would cause the racecourse to fear that their attendances will be hit not the other way around.

Not harsh at all plenty of race days in the calendar that people can attend.

The family and I went to the last ponty meeting on a sunday alongside 10,000 other people. Not all fans within belle vue come with there family say just a man goes by himself with his mates pays £18 and say a tenner more for food and drink, quite expensive whereas if its a nice day this said man could take his family to ponty races for £18 for all the family. They may be forced into doing that.

I will be going and bringing some people who dont normally come but unfortunately there will be no more than 8000 in. Which is a deep shame.

If the weather is nice on Sunday, Ponty races will be jam packed without a doubt. Can we say the same about the rugby, I'm not so sure?

The die hard rugby fans will obviously go to the rugby, but there's a hell of a lot of casual supporters out there, and I know of plenty who will choose a day at the races over the rugby. If I wasn't such a die hard rugby fan I would choose the races too, it's a longer day, better value and more family friendly IMO.

Agreed upthecats, the casuals would rather have a nice day on grass with picnic, watching horse racing with a family of 4 for the price of 1 adult ticket, imo represents better value for money.

But I'll be down watching the derby.

A day at the races can be a bit more pricey than just the entrance fee!
A losing bet on every race on the card can cost a bob or two.

No we can't say that about the rugby and that is the problem. We have been in SL long enough now and have had relative success over the years. If the people of wakefield really wanted a rugby team then Ponte race days and Party in the Park would not affect attendances. As it is the 'floaters', good name for them, will continue to find other things that are 'better value', 'more important' than the rugby. Don't really know what more the club can do as you cannot create interest in a City where no one seems bothered. Hopefully the stadium will come through and that will have an effect as from where I'm sitting it's the only thing left to try.

This is very true. Sadly there doesn't seem to be much that entices the Wakefield public off their armchairs and down to Belle Vue, unless it's a relegation decider of course!

One possibility on occasions like this is to do homework when the fixtures come out.

If someone from the club had identified when the fixtures came out that there was a clash with something like this, then there could have been an opportunity to team up with Ponte racecourse maybe and do some sort of offer?

Bring the kick off forward to say 11.30 and offer families the chanch to watch a top class rugby match followed by a day at the races.

That way people who wanted to go to both don't have a problem and you may even catch the eye of people who are off to the races anyway and think they may aswell take in the rugby too.

Just an idea?

Sounds like a very good idea. How feasible it is I don't know but anything has to be worth a go. Though I imagine an outcry from the 'hard core' regarding messing about with kick off times.

Heard from a unreliable source that the one and only [size=150=redELTON JOHN[/size will be in attendance cheering on the tigers
