I thought PP looked either knackered or disinterested on Friday night - but equally, I thought Big Dave's contribution was significantly less impactful than usual; I wondered if he was a bit banged up and was there for his presence rather than his usual barnstorming stuff?

I like PP - he's got huge potential to do some really damaging stuff - but he isn't Big Dave, and doesn't have the natural flair and ability to pull of moments of magic; but in the right circumstances and used the right way, he can be devastating. I imagine he's a 'mare to coach and condition - because he's obviously naturally huge and not in any way athletic - but I think that turning on him is way too premature.

I dont know if you have read Keith Seniors book ir not, Upanunder, but there is a Pierce near the end, which is like a week in the life of a pro player, and it also looks at diet.

Its quite the norm for a player to intake calories after a game.

Dont the Cas team get them delivered if they win, they must be getting quite hungry over there at the minute

From a fitness point of view I believe it probably doesn't. But i'd say it definitely reflects mentality somewhat.

Not read this thread so forgive me for repeating any points that have already been made. I went to the Hudds match and I think Pauli was just taken from the field for been so poor, he come on 4 minutes after the second half started and looked completely disinterested from the moment he stepped on the field, falling off of more or less every tackled he attempted, could not be bothered to get back onside, lagging behind the line when we had the ball so he didn`t have to stick his hand up to take it in. I have defended Pauli since he came to us, I think he added a lot of value when he finally got fit towards the back end of last season but he now needs to step up and show his worth and improve his attitude - When he is up for it, he can be devastating but as a team we cannot carry passengers and last week thats what he was, well done to CC for removing him after 11/12 minutes.

Agreed. I didn't go but watching it back knowing what went on it was frankly a bit weird, his effort in previous games hasn't been like that, infact by and large he's played well and looked fit. Yes his tackling technique leaves a lot to be desired at times, especially against the smaller players where he has to bend his back but still he's beast when he gets into his stride. Hopefully the way CC handled him makes him realise that as a club we won't stand for anything less than 100% and it's a one off.

I would assume he wants another contract? And after a dressing down after the hudds match again I was expecting him to show us his quality

I also noticed when he made a mistake the players didn't run up to encourage him like they do others after a mistake

Not good enough in my eyes. Granted the all round performance was below par but all that sticks out in my mind is he penalty he gave away. He needs early ball to be effective and we don’t seem to exploit that.

Such was the general quality of the play yesterday I couldn’t say who played well and who didn’t. Jowitt was probably the one who most fitted the brief of his position.

No but he was far more effective than last week but it’s all relative.

Maybe the effects of so many games in a short space of time and missing a chunk of preseason. He's a unit so will no doubt be low on energy levels. Up until the Chester comment I haven't seen anything to question his effort, and I'm not going to join the lynch mob now.

After that he just trailed off

Everyone gives 100% and I honestly don't feel Pauli does

I do think he's giving 100% on the field I just don't think he's giving 100% in training. He looks shagged which means he's going to his max but it just isn't long enough.
When he runs with the ball he really rocks a defense but teams are going to star spotting him in defense and either get past him or gain a penalty for a lazy tackle.
If he can pick up his fitness and who knows he may be carrying injuries, he's a good asset for us.

The thing that frustrates me with Pauli as I’ve already said earlier he has all the attributes to make a huge impact in our game ,but for some reason chooses not to ,wether it’s fitness or attitude he needs to sort it out .watching the Aussie games this morning he certainly won’t get a contract over there now how he’s performing ,as there is certainly no room for that sort of tackling in their game.

Your totally right kettyKat No club in Aus will stand for how he's been playing, Flashes of being a top class player will not stand him in favour he has to buckle down & show some enthusiasm to get even a contract with us. Rugby league don't really I suspect wouldn't want to lose him.

Not quite what he was last season, but I'd still rather have him in the team than face him in the opposition, hopefully CC will sort him out.

He came alive later in the season last year but we have number who do that, all of whom are overseas. Might be the weather or their NRL upbringing that rewards late season form.

Might be clutching at straws but let’s see how it pans out would be my advice.

Mine too. Playing right, he's a sight to fear for the opposition when he comes on the field against a tiring team.

We all know that PP is a big guy and as I've said previously, he missed the start of the season through injury and then has been included without obviously being match fit and has been trying to work his way back in.
The squad was short and he has ended up playing big minutes recently. He's a completely different player to Big Dave.
If you use him as an impact player like as other posters have said as he was at the end of last season, we see him at his devasting best.
Give him a break.
