| Quote ="Kettykat"Only a small thing that I have noticed is they stopped putting those big A boards on the main roads into the city where you couldn’t help but notice trinity and who and when they were playing as more often not you were stuck in slow moving traffic .
Think a multi point attack on getting more into the public eye is the way forward in the short term.'"
I personally think the A boards going is one of the few mistakes MC and co have made and I would reinstate immediately.
I get the trendy arguments about social media etc but in this case I think the marketeers are totally wrong.
RL is a conservative game with a mixed potential audience 50% of which has no interest in Twitter or Facebook.
We have simply alienated them by ignoring them which in turn has allowed them to ignore us.
Also the boards add a presense for the club in the city that can't be ignored yet comes at a fairly reasonable price.
I suggest the club thinks again on this, ditto match day posters.
One thing seems obvious and that is that good RL and results doesn't seem to be enough to attract the Wakefield public so we need to re-think the marketing - or win the CCup or GF

I know lots of fans who are 'older' and are not on the internet or social media. The A boards are good at targeting that age group. The match day posters are at no cost to the club, fans can print them out and distribute to shops etc.

| I think we need to work both harder and smarter and the club could do more. A few fag packet ideas, many of which have been suggested in one form or another:
• Email communication. Can’t recall the last one I had from the club and I’m a regular fan, I get them from Leeds Rhinos all the time.
• ‘Money can’t buy’ incentives within the season ticket – for example access to a training session/open day where you can get close up with the players. Maybe go into a draw to be a waterbody or something similar. Same with access to the post match players bar, say one game per season you get this with a season ticket.
• Write it into the contracts of the star players that they have to spend an hour a day after ringing all season ticket holders from the previous years that haven’t renewed yet. I’m sure a phone call from big Dave could entice a few to maybe sign up again?
• Use the players at the shop a bit more – come down to the store this weekend when Tom Johnston will be doing a quick Q&A – get your season ticket and get a free signed ball or whatever.
• Themed rounds every now and again.
NHS/Public Services game – £5 a ticket for anybody employed here.
Veterans/armed forces game – same again.
Heritage Round – free pint for anybody who comes in a Rooftop Gardens shirt or whatever.
• More interaction with junior clubs, my junior side gets an invite probably less than a week before the game – this isn’t long enough at all to organise kids and parents.

We are definitely missing a trick with the Challenge Cup.
A top 8 finish puts you just 3 games from Wembley which, for Trinity, is our best chance of reaching a final and claiming some silverware.
The boost in interest and additional supporter numbers would be huge for a club like ours and the additional merchandise and sponsorship would be something that we havent seen for 40 years.
This is exactly what Cas managed and they put an extra couple of thousand on their gate and we could easily do the same.
Now that the 3 x 8's have been consigned to history, Chester needs to get on board with this now, target the cup and if necessary sacrifice (or at least risk) a couple of league points to try and get us into a major final.
We may not make it but, the cup shouldn't be a distraction, it should be our main target for the season.

I agree on the whole that this area needs a coat of looking at but the club is doing pretty well in some areas.

Also interviews with them all about the dream team and England selection on Trinity TV, I think it's free to watch those videos as well.

Some good ideas there mate.
I know it's easy sat here to throw ideas at the club but some of those are very achievable imo and just need a little spare time. Some need a bit more time, money and thought but very doable.

Interesting points these, and something I feel my club ( HKR) do incredibly well. Some examples are
- Weekly emails with regards to merchandise and new arrivals, seperate emails about lottery wins, emails with "message from the chairman etc" we get a lot.
- Season pass holders can win hospitality tickets, join the team photo for the year, win tickets to end of season awards etc. Discount's in store and free gifts when signing up.
- Not sure they do the phone call scenario to be fair think it's a good ploy though especially the newsworthy team members
- Weekly store visits by players autograph etc, including match days time for non playing team members. Rovers also do house visits by players especially over christmas with winning prizes etc
- Not so much themed rounds, but we do extremely well with a charity shirt idea which runs for a longer period. The ' a little respect' shirt in 2018 and the remembrace shirt in 2019 both sold over 2000 shirts - decent amount of extra wedge if getting it right.
- We have scheduled junior teams playing on a rota basis throughout the season at half time. Nephew plays for East Hull and they generally know in advance what games they will be on the pitch playing and also mascots ( sky changing it messes some up)
- Another point is social media. KR got listed the number 1 professional sports team for fan engagement on social media within the last couple of years - it is an area we excel on.
- Last year we did a retro range which was unbelievable gear, and really was what people were asking for.
- We do a once yearly 'big listen' when a massive survey goes out to all members about improvements and idea's etc with results published and actions taken.
- Themed marketing activities which are advertised throughout the city for season passes pushes - 2017 was stick together rovers forever, 2018 was rovers are back, 2019 is red army. All strategised with merchandise etc so it all ties in.
Worth an outlook from another team, it's just on the field we can't seem to get anything correct!

| Some great ideas, but ultimately it comes down to one thing....success on field! Don't get me wrong, we have done really well for the last two seasons, but we have not won anything or got to a final.
As said earlier in the thread, our profile, and hopefully crowds, will not increase significantly until we get to either the CCF or GF. Where are now gives us a great platform. It's probably too much to get to the GF, but not impossible, and the CCF is a more likely route.
Talking of the GF...when I watched the game on Saturday I thought what a dream it would be to see my team at OT....

| Just been on the VT. Now, it’s not the usual location for good ideas or rugby league wisdom I admit but there was a good point made on the topic of the attendance at the KCom. Would it be possible to set up a kiosk in the city centre during the week to sell tickets for the upcoming home game? I realise there are security and safety issues and the practicality of setting up credit card payment etc but it would be a great way of putting the club and the fixtures in the faces of the public.

| Don't think the location as to where our tickets is sold is really an issue, a club shop within a shopping centre that has been in the city for 35 years or so. Maybe if anything, when we had one in the Ridings and one in TW, given that TW is busier these days with more footfall we may have been better off staying there, but then maybe shop rentals are dearer.
I think the problem us that there is little in the way of advertising of forthcoming games, so it's only the hardcore fans that tend to know what's happening.
There has been some good ideas on this thread as to where we could try to convert new fans, or bring back old fans, which, to me is what this thread is all about, from the mobile advertising boards at the side of the road, to the poster who had sent in several ideas. None of which are ground-breaking, or rocket science, and each in turn, may only bring in a hundred or so fans, but if tried, collectively, could put another 4-500 on the gate, which could make a world of s difference to both atmosphere, and the club's budget

| Some really good posts on this thread.
I had a season ticket at cas until 4 years ago. At the time super league signed a new deal with SKY without even exploring other options at getting to promote the brand. Which, in my opinion, for the amount of money SKY have, they do terribly.
What I found in my last year as a seasion ticket holder was that 3 games got moved at the last minute from Sundays to Thursdays, which made it impossible for me to attend.
As such, getting a season ticket was actually costing me more money than paying on the day.
The flip side of the coin is that paying on the day, especially if you're going with the Mrs and/or kids.... You're looking at an absolutel bare minimum spend of £50 for two of you. Given that only fills half a tank of petrol these days it's just not worth it to people with a passing interest.
Clubs as a whole therefore have a massive void in regard to catering for more casual fans.
The people I saw mentioned earlier don't want to commit, or can't commit to a full £280 season ticket, and neither do they wanna pay £25 to walk in.
The "mini-ticket" idea has been tried by most and we hear it isn't profitable, neither is giving freebies away..... Obviously.
But clubs desperately need to find a solution for people who, like me, are fans who can't commit to a full season ticket and find £25 walk up prices just a bit much.
I still go to half a dozen games a year but people with a little less interest than me just won't pay it.
I think we've all had a conversation along these lines in our time:
"how much is it to get in nowadays?"
"£25"
" (insert expletive) "
Football clubs get a ridiculously good deal from TV because SKY, BT Spott etc battle like mad for the rights. There's no such battle for RL/SL. They therefore get the prime slots over a weekend, so as such football clubs are absolutely raking in money even by people sat watching it in a pub

| I little bit of a diversion from attendances, but staying with the marketing theme.
I open the post for the company I work for, and today opened a flyer, advertising sponsorship and hospitality for another super league club.
Do we do anything like that I wonder?

Did you bin it?
I go ballistic at work if we ever consider using Mend-a-hose for example.

Having read it, certainly sounded like the person who had put it together, could have been guilty of mis selling.

I always use the original .
