Well it’s no wonder Bain wasn’t happy as he clearly scores the try with a few fingers on it that bend when it hits floor (aided by the clubs footage being slowed to make the point haha) and to make it worse the ref isn’t far away.

It’s a good job it didn’t matter. Gale and Jowitt were both shocked at the card from the ref too and you can see why.

All Bain did was walk to ref asking why it wasn’t a try and he got instantly binned. That’s incredibly poor and if you get binned for that then why aren’t we seeing 5-10 players binned every round. Momorovski for example got told by ref this week to go away 2/3 times after swearing at him and arguing and still didn’t get binned.

The inconsistencies are terrible in our sport in regards officiating.

Not got time to watch it all at the minute, so at what point in the game did this happen please ??

Definite try and he was close, that’s a shocker. I noticed the ball get kicked after but Bainjust stood up in shock it wasn’t awarded and certainly didn’t look to the floor to kick the ball though it’s hard to see who does.

Shouldn’t have mattered as it was a try. Hard done to there was Bain.

Whether the try is scored is debatable, but I can't see any reason why Bain was binned. No further action for me.

To me, and many others, he loses control. That's why it's debatable. Atoni is standing right above Bain and doesn't exactly celebrate the score.

I haven’t seen any of these ‘many others’ saying it’s not a try. Just checked YouTube full game comments, Facebook group comments under full match and on this forum and couldn’t find any?

Atoni doesn’t celebrate his own score. Bain certainly displays a reaction that he scored.

As far as I know fingers bent on the ball as it hits the ground has always been a try. There’s no separation in the footage. If there were separation then I would agree with you but that’s a try. I can only go off the footage which shows him slamming ball down and fingers on it when it’s grounded.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh on the ref as it was fast without benefit of slow motion but being so close you have to get those right. I wouldn’t suggest it’s intentional and I’m sure it’s just a line error. It’s just a good job it’s not in a playoff game where it could have big ramifications. Speaking of which does anyone know if playoff games are televised in championship?

Perhaps more of a case in goal officials or technical support for refs. It’s probably not plausible to have every game televised like SL though.

My first thought was he lost the ball… and the close up (magnification) seemed to confirm that to me… funny how different people see different things!?!

However he didn’t kick the ball away and his approach to the referee seemed controlled… odd sin binning

If you play it frame by frame you can see a couple of his fingers bent on the ball when grounded. The reason why it shoots forwards a bit rather than straight upwards I presume.

Strange but had a few conversations today and all said you can see his fingers on the ball.

Definitely an odd sin binning though. Was very quick to send him and not even entertain a word from the player at all.

Let’s hope we don’t have many more controversial moments.

Might be my perspective but most weeks we seem to be on wrong end of the refs whistle. Not sure why because other teams lately seem to be trying to wrestle and slow us down. It appears we are trying to play SL pace in patches but the refs aren’t reffing to the same they would a SL match and tend to be allowing more laying on and messing about. The players recently seem to be getting frustrated they aren’t allowed quick plays.

So all this discussion about what the video shows is pointless as you can't hear what he says.
That is a key point when discussing why he was sinbinned.

Agreed, but from the body language of Gale, Jowitt and Bain, they look more confused than aggressively arguing with the decision.

Didn't look a try for me

I've just re-watched on youtube from 40 minutes in, I cannot believe that Widnes give 5 penalties away in succession to the "no-try" and no sin-binning or warning, but Bain seems to get a disproportionate sin-binning for is "non-reaction" to the try getting chalked off, also watching it frame by frame, I'm still convinced he scored it.

Enjoyed watching the game game back on YouTube, didn't mind most of the widen fans atmosphere makes a change to quiet stadiums. The jimmy Saville stuff was just plain weird.

Seems a top guy. Stayed out for photos / selfies with the young fans well after the rest had gone back into the stand today, post the 1895 parade. Think we are lucky to have a guy of his calibre this season, hopefully can get the best of his career at the trin.
