Whilst I can see your point, 12 months ago I have no doubt that some Wakefield fans were lauding about Cas being in the rubbish too. That's what you get with local rivals and it will always become a point scoring exercise.

I don't think any Cas fan will say that everything is perfect or peachy; in fact, we know that Wheldon Road as a ground isn't fabulous and we need a new stadium for many reasons. In terms of team performance, we have exceeded expectations but we're not invincible.

However, mud-slinging and posting mistruths benefits no-one really. Cas have worked tirelessly over the off-season to meet H and S requirements and go that extra mile to make sure everything is up-to-date. They've also cut a lot of contracts and renegotiated things in the business to raise extra cash. We have improved considerably but there are always ways to continue improving.

It's unfortunate that this has hit Wakefield prior to the season but at least - with the help of invaluable volunteer time - they have been able to save a few quid and get ahead of the game for the remaining time you have at Belle Vue.

Just had it confirmed the council bought Belle Vue for £165K

Sold it back to the club for £1 on signing contracts and balance of £250K paid
by club to council on completion of contract.

Council made a profit of £85K

Club got back a smaller ground than they sold along with condemned floodlights
and a large bill for 'works' carried out by council.

Good old WMDC such fine fellows.

Ha Ha, it was a health and safety issue within Wheldon Rd which is what I said earlier also the floodlights are structural so the answer to your question is yes it was structural.

Just blows the myth that the Council have been especially good to us.

Made a profit on the deal, condemned our floodlights leaving us with a big bill for replacement floodlights and of course they are being particularly helpful as we speak. I love this Council and they will get my vote on 22nd May.

I would say that IA's information is only second hand and mine was based on memory. I believe that without them buying the ground you would not have a ground to repair or a team to support. The demolition of the old stand was as a result of the Bradford fire and it's design. It would not have survived without a great deal of money being spent.
If the ground was sold at a profit back to the club then so be it. I would ask you to just remind me what did Ted mortgage the ground for.

I like the choice of the highlight colour but it does not change the statement we would have no club without the council's support. I have read on here that because the agreement to increase the capacity was not processed quick enough some of you suggest we should change the council. I doubt the 20 or so who post on here regularly will have little impact on the outcome but if they want to believe so I wouldn't want to shatter their delusions.

We sonny I have supported Wakefield for over 40 years. The reference to "you" was actually in respect of those currently undertaking the development at Belle Vue who would of course not have anything to repair if we had no ground which would have been the case if not rescued by the council. I thought that was implied by my reference to repairs in my post.

I admire the effort they have put in, it is not for me but I am sure the improvements will make the old girl a little more presentable and safe. I am a little disappointed that their efforts are not more publically appreciated by the club. I have not read any reference to what work they have done or any pictures on the official club site which is a real shame.

Its a bit like groundhog day on here.
