| Quote ="1873"Edited for historical and musical accuracy'"
Are you an MP? You must be if you call that accurate.
Both the Beatles and the Stones and countless other bands started off their careers imitating their heroes of that there is no doubt.
However within a few year both the Beatles and the Stones or the Clash (for Gingers benefit) and even today Take That managed to develop their own sound.
There is little simularity between Seargent Pepper and Elvis or Sympathy for the Devil and Muddy Waters. Oasis on the other hand still sound like Oasis did in 1994 who in turn sounded just like a fuzzed up Beatles.
People try to argue against percieved wisdom are daft IMO, it's such a waste of time - black men make better sprinters than white men, Indians make great accountants, British people are a lot funnier than Germans and Oasis are blatant rip off merchants long after they had an excuse to be. I have no facts to prove it, no data, no expert opinion to back it all up - it just is - you know it. I know it. ta

To be fair I don't think Liam's contribution was the same as Brown's. While Oasis managed a pretty decent second album they've not done anything for me since. Both bads peaked with their first album as did my other favourite band Guns N Roses. Still better 1 all time classic than churning out endless middle of the road, same old same old crap like a lot of bands do.

Can't really get into Guns N Roses, much prefer the baggy stuff myself. I take your point about Oasis and the individual contributions though - but don't agree about the 1 good album. 2 amazing albums and few more very good ones, even the B side "album" was very very solid in my opinion - far better than most others.
What do you think are the best tracks?

And the first two are two of the best live bands!!

Depends whether you are talking about an album or about individual tracks. Personnaly I judge the best albums as those I can listen to over and over again without skipping a track i.e Stone Roses Stone Roses, Oasis Def Maybe, G N R Appetite, individual tracks could be here all day and night.
As for live bands Iron Maiden and Guns N Roses take some beating a proper show with quality music thrown in, not without offence, a few static blokes plugging away and trying to look cool!

Throw in a bit of Radiohead for a full house on the way back from a Friday night away trip in Wankyshire, just what you need to make the return journey fly by.

| This topic sparked off a few thoughts, so I'm going to share my musical tastes with you - and leave you all to pick holes in it!
So, here are my top 20 albums - but for the sake of avoiding repetition I will stick to one album per artist (as Ant & Dec say - in no particular order:
1 AC/DC - Back in Black
2 Def Leppard - Pyromania
3 Bryan Adams - Reckless
4 Rush - Moving Pictures
5 Danko Jones - Born a Lion
6 Feeder - Comfort in Sound
7 John 'Cougar' Mellencamp - Uh Huh
8 Live - The Distance to Here
9 Muse - Black Holes & Revelations
10 Radiohead - OK Computer
11 REM - Lifes Rich Pageant
12 Coldplay - A Rush of Blood
13 Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
14 Scorpions - Animal Magnetism
15 Marillion - Script for a Jesters Tear
16 Gun - Swagger
17 Incubus - Light Grenades
18 Journey - Escape
19 Kate Bush - Never for Ever
20 Guns 'n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
I found it hard to choose some, such as Kings of Leon; U2; Keane; Sheryl Crow, as I love their music, but can't pick one album as such. I guess the older ones are more engrained on the brain as well and it's difficult when a band has 10 albums as opposed to some, like the LA's, who had one album - but a good one.
One thing's for sure - I hope they never stray from the album format - I hate the idea of just being able to listen to one track at a time!
So go on then - the defences are down! (Jinjers gonna love this - but then if a band sells more than 3 records then they have 'sold out' in his world! ) Fill yer boots!

| You old rocker Phil, didn't think you had it in ya!
4 good albums out of 20 isn't bad but you really must move on a bit.
For what it's worth here's my top 20.
1.The Clash-London calling.
2.The Who-Who's next.
3.The Jam-All mod cons
4.The Cribs-Mens needs whatever.
5.Stiff little fingers-Inflamable materiel
6.The Rolling stones-High tide and green grass.
7.The Sex pistols-Never mind the bollock$.
8.The Kinks-Village green preservation society.
9.Oasis-What's the story morning glory.
10.Oasis-Definately maybe.
11.Black rebel motorcycle club-Baby81
12.Thin Lizzy-Jailbreak.
13.Coldplay-Viva la vida.
14.Joy division-Unknown pleasures.
15.The Music-The Music.
16.Sunshine underground-Raise the alarm
17.Kings of Leon-Only by the light
18.Def Leppard-Hysteria
19.Stone roses-Stone roses
20.The Subways-Young for eternity.
That's mine and could have done a top 100 if I had the time.
I love music as it's very rare to come out of a gig dissapointed, where as watching Wakey!!!That's different all together.

Funny one for me these, cannot stand 95% of what they have done - would go as far as to say I hate it. But in contrast, they are responsible for probably my favourite song of all time - "How To Be Dead" - everything about the record is just perfect.
As for the old albums/singles question, I am very much in the Alan Partridge school of thought I am afraid.

| One thing to mention - it helps to keep in touch when your teenage son is a fully fledged mosher!
My lad is into proper 'shouty' rock - and I tend to be at the more melodic end of the spectrum, but we cross over in the middle on such as Linkin Park, Lost Prophets and the ilk.
Latest album ordered - Steel Panther - fully developed spandex and big hair metal band from LA - just like it used to be but fresh!

Much prefer festivals or all day/night events where you get to see lots of different bands rather than gigs where just a couple of bands are on.

| By no means definitive, or in any particular order - off the top of my head:
stone roses - the stone roses
my bloody valentine - loveless
the smiths - strangeways here we come
the orb - adventures beyond the ultraworld
spiritualised - ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space
alabama 3 - exile on coldharbour lane
led zepplin - led zep 2
rolling stones - let it bleed
guns n' roses - appetite for destruction
ac/dc - back in black
the cribs - mens needs, womens needs, whatever
arctic monkey - whatever people say i am...
wedding present - bizarro
oasis - definitely maybe
the strokes - is this it
the charlatans - wonderland
joy division - closer
johnny cash - american recordings IV: the man comes around
the who - live at leeds
kruder & dorfmeister - the K&D sessions
bands like KOL, Pink Floyd, the Cure, Radiohead etc just miss out as too many great works spread across their back catalogue. to put the cat amongst the pigeons, the beatles miss out because they are overrated.
