| Copied from Sporting life.
The other endangered club, Wakefield, have been hit by delays to their planned move to Newmarket, two junctions further along the M62 from Castleford's proposed new home, [uand today's development could be good news for them.[/u
Why's that?

Licence
The Rugby Football League's board of directors are committed to promoting at least one Championship club - Widnes, Halifax or Barrow will get the nod next Thursday - and will announce the other 13 licence winners in July.
=redAn RFL spokesman confirmed that Castleford will be judged on their current facilities if their new stadium is not ready for the start of next season.
"A new stadium or re-development of an existing stadium will only be taken into account if the work is completed by the start of the 2102 season," he said.
However, Wright is currently finalising his club's licence application and remains hopeful they will be allowed to play next season at their current home.
"Facilities are just one area of criteria that the RFL will assess to make their decision," he added.
"The RFL assesses each club on its engagement with the community, governance and management, match attendances, the development and performance of its players and, of course, it's playing facilities.
"It also looks carefully at each club's financial performance and its ability to compete at the highest level without fear of administration."

They'd never admit to it, and go back to reading Facebook and stroking their egos.

| Quote ="Theboyem"As much as i'd like to believe it I just can't see the RFL or =#0040FFthe other clubs agreeing to go to 16 teams, it would split the pot too thinly. Also there is an issue of whether the playing talent is available to sustain two more competitive clubs. Cas' announcement would bring us back into contention providing we are playing out of a quality stadium. If we are staying at BV, forget it, we're gone. They'd not be a huge amount between the sides but our recent financial history would see them get the nod. But if we were playing out of a nice shiny stadium next year and they weren't.......'"
I agree with the reduction in sky money, but all clubs would have two extra home fixtures to recover the costs, so proactive clubs would suffer less than clubs who dont bother so much.
Presumably there would be two more rounds covered by SL so four more lots of TV subsidy money as well.
Maybe its more of a goer than i first thought.

I've seen you bang on about this a few times this morning, if you are as neutral as you purport to be regarding the building of stadiums, why are you getting in such a tizzy about the (mis)reporting of an article regarding positive news about Cas? Couple that with your patronising post on the Cas forum this morning and I guess you are slightly more antagonistic towards any positive news regarding Cas.

One club peed off by red tape and just wanting to start building. The other thankfull for as many, changes delays and loopholes as possible.

| I don't agree that there will be less 'talent' around with more top level clubs. Surely it is more opportunities for British players to develop at a top level, more opportunities for young players to develop like a lot of SL is seeing this year, more chance for players to commit to a career in RL rather than looking elsewhere and staying amateur. We also have the situation where reduced quota player places means that the British game can develop as a whole.

My thoughts too.
From the looks of things Cas are entering a three way partnership to develop a supermarket. This sort of structuring is not uncommon for new property developments and I wouldn't be too surprised if either Tesco or Sainsburys ended up with a new site there.
Whatever the final value of the scheme, it is a nailed on certainty that Cas won't be receiving the full "£50m". Their contribution will be in the form of the land while the other parties secure the debt and provide any remaining cash input to the development.
Once complete the construction costs, bank debt & interest will need to be taken from the "£50m" with the profit element being spilt between the three parties in the partnership. All things considered Cas are probably only to get around £8m.
Of course in the meantime they still need to put a few million quid into the new stadium at Glasshoughton until they can realise any money from Wheldon Road. Looks like a case of putting the cart before the horse to me.

I am delighted, for lots of reasons, the only reason I am angry is just lazy reporting of the facts in the media. You have already had several well respected posters being mis-lead on the actual facts by this sloppy reporting. I did make a lightly tongue in cheek comment about the £50m figure, but in the main the post was to let people know that they had been mis-informed.
The Cas press statements are very clear and very positive and the thing is, it should not be hard for one of the worlds biggest and well respected news agencies to get their facts correct and publish a story that reflects the facts.
It really is genuinely just about the sloppy journalism, the news itself is very positive.
You must of worked out that these type of things just wind me up!

Can't help but contribute to this 'debate'. Sick and tired of this being repeated, but hey oh.
1) Cas were always going to build a stadium at GH and have never changed their plans, not matter what loophole you think we have created.
2) Fully planning application in and should hear back on the 7th April
3) Ground sold in principle to Ben Bailey (then something called a World Wide Recession hit which slowed this down), so wisely this has been delayed
4) Had a funding gap which was reliant on WDC, which mean't that ground could only be build in phases.
5) Ground sold and RW announces that funds are now in place to build in one go for 2013. He can do not wrong in your eyes and for me has played his cards very wisley.
I am sorry that this is not what you were wanting to hear, but all your questions have been answered. Yes it's taken a lot longer than hoped, but so have a lot of things in this country. For the record, I want Wakefield in SL, but do you really thing that this news today is good news for you. We will have FULL PP and the funds in place to build, so if the RFL can't see that when considering application, god knows what they go on.
By the way, has AG actually stated how NM would have been paid for, now that Sir Rodney has been told to toddle along????????

No problem with 1 to 4 but 5 is wrong, the ground is not sold!
I sincerely hope that you get this deal and build the best stadium possible at GH but let's wait for the actual sale of the ground and not trumpet a sale when this, for now, is just another possibility.

Firstly, jungle man I am not trying to patronise you but it is sort of is going to do that a little, so for that I apologies in advance! You just (unfortunately) happened to come along at the right/wrong time to perfectly highlight the issue I get so angry about when it comes to sloppy journalism and point out to ParanoidAndroid why it matters!
ParanoidAndroid - jungle man has come on here and posted a very valid opinion however, factually he is already incorrect, through no fault if his own, because he like most people, he takes what they read in the media as being 'reasonably' factually correct. To be fair to Cas and RW, he has not said any of those things and the press statements they have put out this morning are very clear, very positive and do look very likely to come to fruition but jungle man has written the statement above because he believes that is the truth... when unfortunately it is not. This is my issue, not the news itself!

I am sensible enough to agree that Cas won't get £50m for it, but making a pretty bold statement to say it has been sold is a fairly big decision to make by someone. I agree in what you say, but what gets me, is that Wakey fans constantly say 'it won't happen, you haven't got the money, the ground isn't sold' etc etc, but this news today certainly makes it a step nearer, but again the article is ripped to pieces. I like a lot of other cas fans will not believe anything until I see some steel in place or even when the doors are opened for the 1st time.

They have not sold it jungle man, Cas and RW have not said they have sold it, they don't even try to spin it to say they have sold it (I can't believe I am defending RW ). This sentence from RW statements sums up the very positive but truthful position "To that end, we are delighted to announce that we have entered into an exclusive Development Agreement with Opus Land (North) Ltd and they are now working with us to =#FF0000obtain approval to redevelop our ground as a large format food store".

| This really makes you wonder if Cas are being advised by Ted !!
Honestly the statement goes on about a re-development of Cas Town Centre as well. How long do they think this is going to take ?
For example Eastgate Qtr in Leeds has been on the table since 1992, the Trinity development in Leeds since 1999 and Trinity walk development in Wakey since 1999 also.
It's pie in the sky stuff when you are also getting all the retail indicators pointing to a slowdown.
Good luck to Cas, but it's all front.

Think if you actually read the statement it states the redevelopment of wheldon road, and help promote Castleford town centre.
We are losing a major employer in the form of Nestle from Wheldon Road, and thanks to Junction 32 Castleford Town centre is dying, by bringing regeneration to the wheldon road area this will hopefully bring people back into the town.
