| Quote ="imwakefieldtillidie"There may be more glamorous coaches around. There may coaches with better CVs and won more trophies. There may even be coaches who play a more attractive style of rugby. But is there a coach in the world who is more suited to Wakefield Trinity at this moment in time than John Kear? I don't think there is. He had his critics last season, even a few this season, but regardless of what happens between now and September, all expecations this year have been exceeded. A lot of good things have happened off the pitch recently, but what we are seeing on it rests with one man, John Kear.'"
Hard to argue with that - there aren't many coaches who respond better to a backs to the wall, everybody hates us, siege mentality type scenario than Mr Kear.
Whatever happens next season, he deserves respect for what he's delivered in this one.

| I agree, although we underperformed last season. John Kear could possibly be master-minding a stunning season.
Never have the odds been stacked so heavily against any rugby league team, but slowly the noise is getting louder.
Keep the faith. C'mon Trin !!

| He doesn't need to answer to the semi-pro "I'd do it better" coaches on here, but I'm sure he knows a Challenge Cup run is what he needs to deliver.

| Mopsey get a grip. Best we can do with what we have; in fact much better than we could hope for with what we have. Anyone not seein that is not with the programme I'm afraid.
John Kear; the best coach we have had since Ken Traill!!!

| Have always said it and will say it again. Kear is the best "signing" we have made in a long time. Easily our most valuable asset at the club.
Priceless!

| As one of the JK detractors, I have read with interest the comments on here with a wry smile. Last year when we were on that horendous run under JK it was the JK sympathisers who were quiet other than to say the standard "theres no one better" "Kear saved us in 2006" etc.. whereas at least some of us detractors tried to put a reasoned argument together about why were were not happy with JK.
I have kept quiet this season because the effort of the lads on the field has been simply outstanding. However, having felt the need to defend my views after reading some of the comments on here, I would ask you all to consider that it is the sheer effort and never say die attidude of the boys that is winning us games. We are still coming up short in a number of basic areas of the game - these areas are ones that the coach should be addressing - but we still see most of the same things week in week out.
As for JK's motivation skills, I am not so sure this season is down to them or otherwise how do you explain the debacle of 2/3 of last season? IMO its quite simple. The lads we have now want to play for each other and do their best for the club - whereas last seasons squad had a number of players who didn't.
Final point lets not forget the Leeds game with the selection of Vievers and Wildie on the bench with neither being used until after an hour (when the game was over and Vievers introduction meaning a load of positional changes).

| I would also bet that Kear has the lowest salary cap to play with also.
What he is doing this season, just shows what a good coach he is, this is his situation caoching the underdogs, he is without doubt the best coach in SL for one off games.
7000 is another great crowd, that along with the the Englsih players that you are bringing through and most importantly the fact that you aren't bottom of the league is the reason why you should still be in SL next season.
Bring back P&R.
I still think you might get saved by a team going out of buisness.

Would agree with a lot of what you say. The effort, typified by both Murphy's and Davey's tries, has won games for Trinity rather than any sort tactics/coaching. I think hes possibly the best option now with his motivational skills (us against the world approach) but I can't see any attacking structures in place which often results in poor last tackle plays and a lack of options for the halves, who are not the best in the first place.

| I am a big supporter of J.K,i think he's doing a great job under the problems surrounding the club,as for his critics, put a name in the frame who you would replace him with, that's if anybody would take the job as regards the team, they are playing out of their skins ,all teams need a leader J.K is ours.

| It might be the fitness coach that's turning it around but I can't help feeling it's just 'everyone,' inc fans, pulling together at the club that's giving us that extra urge.
One thing I've always liked about Kear even when I've really wanted him out to stop the traditional trinity rot is he always believes, even at 30-0 down his RL brain must be re-routing to find away back.

Some reasonable points and I'd agree that there are still some frustrations with JK, particularly in terms of selection, set plays and developing young players. But, to suggest that the performance of the team this season has nothing to do with him is churlish and frankly, a bit daft; every team needs a leader, no matter how motivated and engaged the individual members are, to create the vision, communicate it and get everyone bought in - I'd say that job has been done at WTW and I can't see anyone else being responsible.
One thing to consider - if the atmosphere and culture around the club last season was as negative as some have said, perhaps JK himself was also demotivated, unhappy and lacking leadership? It would explain a lot, including his desire to jump ship when Les Cats came knocking.

Reasonable counter argument. Have no problem with accepting others point of view when it is explained in a rationale way
