| I love it when the off season is slow and a couple of ding dongs from other forums look to come and stir it up.
Don't know him but Budgiezilla is only defending his team, without having a dig, a bit like a lot of us would do.
Leave the numptys to only dream about being classed as 'dead and buried', only to rise from the ashes again to preserve our SL status.

| Quote ="TRB"I would suggest that, on their day, that Leigh side could compete with most SL clubs - as they showed in the CC last year, but my problem, especially with the big named players, is that they are there at least partly because they didn't perform consistently enough!
Leigh were a very tight night group last year - it will be interesting to see if they can maintain that group dynamic next season with those 'egos' amongst them!'"
Yep bang on the button for me.
I will just add that the players that have left salford have all said they are hoping to start to enjoy playing rugby again. Is it wakefield who have signed a player off them whos said the same?
Your the favourites for the wooden spoon again and i think thats right so its going to be interesting to see how you go on this season .

| I would expect one departure if Trinity enter the market. My guess would be Hall.

| If we go for a half I'd prefer a young kid to an established player.
I like Finn and Miller and that needs to be the settled relationship.
Bring back up for them rather than someone above them.

| A more established half would allow Finn to double up at hooked and make the side better equipped. A younger up and coming half would be like an apprentice only getting the occasional game.
I'm split between the two, but feel sure Trinity will make the best choice.

| I would prefer a more experienced half to challenge for a first team place than a young half providing back up. What kind of half would you want alongside Miller if Finn was injured?

| Makes sense that Finn and Miller should be the hb pairing - and yet, if we are in for Peter Wallace for example, we'd be mad not to play him - he's streets ahead of most SL hb's.

| We need to be careful here! Striking the right balance is essential. Finn and Miller will be feeling 10' tall right now. They are our number 1 choice, have just bossed Leeds and seem to be a good match up! Bring another named, experienced player in and you risk losing that. On the other hand, we are light if we lose one to injury.
Shame Wigan wouldn't let us use Hampshire, he would be about perfect, but we need to keep looking for someone who will be patient IMO.

| Think we need another half back with a kicking game in case of injury to Fynn. If Jacob Miller is injured and we keep Hall I think that he'd do a job there until he has recovered. So for me a calm scrum half with a good kicking game and game management is a must.

I have said previously on here that Hall owes us for last season. It's a shame because he has all the talent to be at least a good stand in for HB - whether he goes or steps up to it remains to be seen.

| Can't see the rush really if he's only a back up half back as cover for Finn and Miller, the season doesn't start while February and maybe if he's played for the coach before, he'll know what's expected of him and won't take much integrating into Smith's system of playing.

| I think it's pretty obvious we need some cover at halfback but other than that the squad looks much stronger. We maybe lack genuine class in the centres but i can't see anything but improvement coming next season.

You may be right!
Just my thoughts though - he showed nothing for us last year - just occasional glimpses of what he is capable of!

| I dont know if anyone has heard any more regarding our search for a half back, or the latest on the interest in Peter Wallace, but late last night, I was reading the Hull FC, and Salford boards, to see if they had any updates, as these are also interested.
On reading the Hull FC board, I read the following. Here's a rumour:
"@The18thManUK If rumours are to be believed, a certain Super League player could be receiving his P45 shortly...."
Intriguing
At first I thought it would be to do with Brett Ferres, but I read on, and someone then posted the following.
"a certain kr scrum half u mean for getting into deepwwater sat night in town ?"
Now I dont know if there is anything in this, or whether it is just rivals, spreading idle gossip, it wouldnt surprise me, but if it were true, could only think it as Albert Kelly, now that would be interesting, as he would be a great addition to the club.

He's a cracking player but we've just got rid of scrum half who is liability with a light ale in him so can't see this one being true.

1) They have at least 4 half backs so why do we think it is Kelly?
2) The info comes from FC so integrity of the info is slightly in question
3) Unless he's done something REALLY serious, they would not let him go.

| Just looking through the other squads, we are not that far off.
Salford have a pretty good back line, but is weaker without vidot, but I think our pack is much better than theirs, in depth too
Hull KR have a much better back line that us but again, their pack doesn't strike fear at all. Ours imho is much better
Widnes back line is a step further than most and their strength in depth is enormous in the backs. Their pack, especially with Tickle missing isn't as good as ours
Hull are the other way round. Their quality and depth in the pack is immense but their backs are unproven and they have two hookers that work hard but I don't think will get them moving like they want
As you go up the league of course the teams get stronger but I feel like we can match people as a starting point and if Smith can get extra out of them we can cause some problems.
Looking forward to it

| I think our squads looking good. Like many have said we need back up in the H / B. I'M not that concerned about the pack it will be able to mix it in my view with most of S L.
