Thats a question i have asked but it seems no one knows. i'm still being told that the funding is still short at GH.
The last line of the SWAG statement says Wakey will noT be going to GH.
Confused, unhappy, sick, worried and Sad.

| I don't see the problem in supporting a completely new merged team from the area. Sure I would prefer to support my home team which I have been doing for nearly 50 years but in all honesty both clubs are gonna limp along having the occasional good run of form, but I think this district deserves to be one of the big boys.

| The position of Box as outlined on the W.E. site is hillarious. The council made their offer regarding the land just over 12 months ago. It would appear that at that time the council felt that 'gifting' assets with a total value of 4+ million made sense in the interests of the community of Wakefield and the five towns.
However due to budget cuts they don't feel they can justify this now. It is staggering - where have they been. Budget cuts were always going to happen and they would have known that when they made this decision. The Value for Money arguements being applied now were just as applicable 12 months ago as they are now. Of course feasibility study is the sensible option - but it was the sensible option years ago and it was the sensible option 12 months ago when the council made their initial decision.
Im a long time advocate of a stadium share - I am of the opinion that the RFL need to take another look at the pressures they are execerting in terms of stadia and francise bids. The rush to comply with licencing is bad for the game - it will result in millions of wasted pounds leaving our sport. Money that could be used for the benefits of our communities and in improving the infrastructure of the community and junior game. This is absolutely the business of the RFL.
If there is a genuine appetite within the council for a feasability study it will be interesting to see the scope of the study. Exactly what will they be seeking to extablish the feasability of?
Which site is best suited to sharing?
Which site offers bect V4M in terms of the land the council are throwing in the pot?
Which development offers most total benefits to the community?

Newmarket has no potential benefits for Castleford; Wakefield moving to Glasshoughton does. You can market yourselves as a "district" club rather than a city club, your fans will already have most of the facilities nearby or on site and there is no dispute over J30 anymore.
It would solve a lot of issues.'"
think with in a year or so we will both be marketing as a district club as one, there is no way the rfl will rest untill we a merged.if the ground was to be at gh i as a wakey fan would still attend every home game its only a couple of junctions extra down the motorway

The thing is, with the parcels of land loaned to both parties, Newmarket doesn’t need a review to know which site ticks more boxes. The paranoia in me thinks this would be no way independent, IMO it’s already a done deal, that’s why Wright wants it apparently without even knowing what the parameters are and why Trinity are a little more reserved on the matter.
As I said before, the commissioners of the review didn’t want to include the community facilities on offer at Newmarket, one of the key areas of the development, but were quite happy to include the railway station at Glasshoughton.

| Wow, this has prompted me to do what i have said i would never do, post on a message board, so here goes.......................
Its about time we, Cas and Wakey supporters stopped the 'mines bigger and better than yours' crap and started working together on this one, because the ground sharing nonsense is just the precurser that the clowns at Red Hall want to force the merger issue again.
The ground share is a no no if we both want to retain our individual identities, and imo the team that moves out of its own heartland will be the one that withers and dies.
We should ride this storm and stick with our own plans , us at GH you lot at Newmarket and if both fail or the Superleague decide we are not wanted, then tough, let Leeds pretend they have a rivalry with Bradford when their supporters see Cas and Wakey as their real derby opponants and we will recommence hostilities in the championship along with a tasty extra derby with Featherstone.
Superleague will miss us both more than we will miss them, and we may just have a laugh on the way, saving both clubs identities and sticking 2 fingers up to the clowns at Red Hall.
And please do something about the 'newgroundbeforecas' poster, he makes your fanbase look a little odd

The "Community Facilities", for what they are, can easily be built at Glasshougton. The railway station right on the doorstep is an obvoius advantage that Glasshoughton has.

They wouldn’t put any money into GH. The extra money comes from the value of the two plot of land combined to partially fund one stadium instead of two.

| Put it this way, Trinity go to Cas there is no chance of picking up new support, some of the hardcore may go with them. Trinity go somewhere else nearby, say Barnsley, then some of the hardcore will go with them and there are possibilities that they will pick up new support.
Both include travel a certain amount of distance. One offers better opportunities to grow the club. I know which I would prefer as the Plan B option.

I don't think that's entirely true. Cas have a bad season, I could imagine lots of fair weather fans turning up to see a winning local team.
Also with all the transport links to Glasshoughton, there would be ample opportunity for both clubs to grow their fanbase.

No idea. The community plans for the Newmarket development are clear to see. I believed that all that could be built on the GH footprint is the stadium. No room for training pitches, sports halls etc. If this is inaccurate I’m happy to be corrected.
Regardless it doesn’t alter the fact that NM doesn’t need a review. With the mechanisms in place it’s viable financially. The council are still proposing that two plots of land are used to aid the funding of a stadium rather than two they are not exactly saving anything.
As for the time constraints, Trinity can play out of alternative venue until Newmarket is ready. Saints are doing it next season. So even if it goes to a public enquiry and gets delayed by x amount of time, if plans are put in place to mitigate against this then that removes the extremely tight margin of error from the fray.

| Quote ="Chairman Miaow"So all this ....."once planning permission is achieved, this will [itrigger [/ithe funding" ....was complete and utter rubbish. Yet more mis-information from the people "in the know".
We were all lead to believe that the funding was already in place - that is patently not the case.
We were all told categorically that the developer, Yorkcourt, would be funding the stadium - again, this was not true.
It appears that significant alternative sources of funding will have to be found - just how easy does anyone think that will be right now?
Lets just pretend that Yorkcourt do get the planning permission they want (and remember, as a commercial developer they do not [iwant[/i planning permission for a stadium, that is just a required sweetener for the council in order to get the industrial aspect of the scheme passed). Then they decide that, in this difficult economic climate, they can't afford to stump up the money for the stadium straight away. And the amount required to "top-up" their input (which has still not been quantified) cannot be sourced. What then? No-one can force them to build anything, yet they will have secured a very valuable site for development at a later date when it suits them.
It seems that the SWAG people are being outmanouvered (again) by the council. That's not a criticism, because WMDC are absolutely top drawer at all this schemeing and double-dealing stuff. But just like the Thornes Park fiasco, I have no doubt that this project will never be delivered.
I await more "[ikeep the faith[/i", "[iit WILL happen[/i" , "[iwell if you think you could do better[/i" posts, which in my opinion achieve nothing apart from reassuring those who want to be reassured, and antagonising those who want proper answers.
The 150000 signatures were in support of a new stadium, not in support of a massive industrial complex. I signed it, obviously, but at the time nothing was said to me about a wider development.'"
This is just what I have been getting at for weeks, glad somebody else can see it.

| For Newmarket to happen it needed political will and support. It would appear that it no longer has that (if it ever really did?). Newmarket could go ahead on time, if the council wanted it to.
It looks to me like York Court will be offered a deal where they get planning permission for the whole site when the greebelt status is removed in 2013 in exchange for funding the shortfall at GH. What we don't get is the community sports facilities which make Newmarket the more attractive option for me.
This will no doubt produce a joint stadium in enough time to satisfy the RFL. A better stadium could be built but would two teams thrive? I could live with travelling the short distance to J32 but what guarantees would there be for 2 independent clubs?
WTRLFC-RIP-1873-2012?
The people of Stanley and Wakefield get a great big industrial estate and no sports facilities. NIMBYs, be careful what you wish for!

| There will be one community stadium in the District and both clubs will share it - anyone who believes otherwise is either naive to the ways of local government, or is deluding themselves.
After a year or so of sharing a ground, the clubs will merge and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth from some intransigent, old time supporters of both clubs; some fans will desert, but not many. Then the new entity, providing it's not run by Ted, will emerge as a force in SL; old fans will forget and new ones won't have known anything different and all will be well; exactly what should have happened 12 or so years ago.

| Of the 2 sites, Glasshoughton seems to have the more going for it. It has excellent transport including its own rail station and infrastructure already built It is no doubt an ideal spot with plenty of space and other amenities/attractions. Outline planning permission has been granted -albeit they have not been "signed off"as yet and they do seem fiurther on than we do. I do know they have engaged leasing agents to lease the stadiums undercroft sections to retailers, with some of these going to the local health authority and WMDC ( Health action zones, learning, clincs etc)
Newmarket requires fiull development, wie are getting a lot of negative publicity from the loclal resident groups, and opposition from our friends in Leeds, as well as transport and enviromental departments.
We have a lot of work to do to turn this around, with precious little time. I really feel for both sets of fans and both clubs who have had thier feet pulled from under them by the council, however the council is under severe finacial constraints, and will struggle to comply with thier statatory requirements.
The curent economic climate is not going to ease, money is in very short supply, if this wasn't the case i would suspect both stadiums would go ahead.

That’s the point, the full value of WMDC ‘contribution’ is going to one stadium and not two. They are not saving any ‘money’. If they wanted to save money they could just back the stadium that only needs the one parcel of land to raise capital against. The one they said they would back to SWAG and the developer right after the General Election.

Waystone signed the appropriate document last week , so the Glasshoughton project is light years ahead of Newmarket, there I go comparing bids when we should all be fighting this idiotic ground share (precurser to Maurice Lindseys dream of a merged team) and stand our own corners.
If the RFL want expansion then sharing a ground isnt going to guarantee Superleague status.
Both clubs, if they want to survive should just get on with their own projects and to Hell with the rest of the Rugby League world, after all we are in the 'golden triangle' the most productive area for Rugby League talent and both clubs will survive, They need us to
