So does anyone think Fairbank offers something that walshaw/molloy/annakin does not?

no idea personally as I have not seen him play or cannot recall it.

In my opinion Fairbank offers a much better defence than Walshaw or Molloy, but much less running wide in attack.

Have seen a few say he is small, he is about 6ft and 16 stone, small for a prop, but he is not a prop. I think he is best as a defensive LF. He is certainly SL quality, but probably not top 6 quality.

Quite a few will make their minds up before he's reported to BV for his first training session.

You can't possibly know he defends better than Wallshaw, you can't have seen anywhere near enough of him - most Trinity fans haven't. As it happens he's an excellent tackler, whether he is better than Fairbank I couldn't say for the above reasons.

However I think it's the type of player in this case rather than the player i.e. a young S/R or L/F - we have a few already who fit that bill though I accept injury is an issue.

With Kirmo and Big Ali crocked and Washbrook misfiring in all aspects of his game, I'm ok with it; if he's jemmied in to the squad with Washbrook still doggedly picked at LF, I might feel differently mind.

Just seen that Cas are now facing their usual injury crisis and Saints are without 2 key names - I guess it's that time of year, when injuries become an issue.

Injury notwithstanding, I'd be flabbergasted should Washbrook not be in the 19.

Seriously though if we were in the market for another second row why didn't we make an offer for Jay Pitts? Or maybe we did and it got turned down. Pitts has seen a lot more first team action than Fairbank and has the Wakefield connection which may lead to him signing for us next season as he is surplus at Hull? We'll have a lot OOC for next season.

Fairbank has been to Batley and Bradford from Giants and apparently not shown the promise a couple of seasons ago. Hope I'm wrong and he tops the tackle count and puts steel into our inconsistent defence.

As for Molloy and Walshaw I think both have played well when they've had the chance. I think Molloy must be injury prone though otherwise he'd be definitely loose forward ahead of Washbrook or if Kirmo injured taking his slot?

Walshaw should be at centre alongside Collis if the coach picks his team based on form but it'll probably be Lynne with Fox getting another chance on the wing despite defensively all at sea. I only hope Walshaw at least gets a spot on the bench for the performance against Giants the other week as a reward.

Jacob is an excellent defender. It's an area you need to improve in your team and he will provide that. If you are expecting a hard running mega meter making prop forward you will be disappointed. If you are expecting a hard working dependable player who will do ok going forward but do the hard work in defence that most rugby league fans don't give credit for then you will be as pleased as punch.

Regardless of how good his defence is, I doubt he'll be able to cover both flanks, drop in at full back as well was shoring up the middle. Aside from powder puff tackling, the whole defensive non structure is shambolic. One fringe Fart won't resolve that.

He's pretty much done what it says on his tin.
Tackled hard, ran pretty well. Lots of effort without being flash.
