| Quote ="Spookisback"I’m not sure I agree with this…
we have gone through cycles of decency… apathy… relegation… promotion… excitement… boredom… reasonable league position… poor league position… rank bad league position… and that’s just in the 49 years I have been supporting the club… literally hundreds of players have worn the beloved shirt in that time… tens upon tens of coaches, elected club officials and company board members… the cycle of excitement and optimism countered by disappointment and apoplexy has been constant…
Each coach… each owner … has done the best they can with the resources available.
But for the majority of that time… one thing has been particularly noticeable… the cycle of boom and bust… teams have been built… but the ‘holy grail’ of success has not been forthcoming… crowds and investment have not allowed for that to be sustainable… debt was built.. resulting in an unacceptable financial strain… which at various times has led to the ground being sold… star players capitalised… areas of the ground being deemed unsafe and closed down… making Belle Vue a grim and unattractive place to fans, players and investors alike.
There are no queues of philanthropic millionaire RL fans or entrepreneurial businessmen, waiting in the wings… that’s just fantastical thinking … deluded thinking!
The only way forward is to apply sound business principles, which secures the name and the club for future generations of Wakefield people. Unlike previous regimes, that’s what the current board has done… sound business principles to operate within a sustainable budget… sound business principles to (finally) secure the ownership of Belle Vue and enable the gradual transformation into a 21st century stadium.
And this has been through a period of history which has seen investment in the sport in the UK slashed, a pandemic which crucified short term development thinking… conflict in Europe and Brexit which has grossly affected and impacted supply chain vale and matériel costs.
On this side of the world the investment in League is going through the roof… yes it means that more and more players are coming through the system , but their salary expectation even at lower levels in the game are beyond the British game’s means. E.g. I just watched an NRL reserve game between Bulldogs Reserves and Newtown Jets (Sharks reserves) and it was better… skill, intensity, speed… than any SL game I have seen this year.
Sure I’m disappointed, disaffected and ready to point the finger of blame, but posts like this thread… are little more than an adult writing to Santa or praying in church on a Sunday … cathartic maybe, but ultimately a waste of time…
Currently we have a down cycle… and its circadian rhythm is in time and in tune with ‘cost of living crisis’ … general feeling of instability internationally and within politics… a pervading lack of trust of anyone in authority…and a media fed fear of conspiracies.
There will be an up cycle… the dawn will follow the night… maybe not tomorrow, next month or next year (even)… but it will come.'"
I agree with a lot of what you say, but.....ups' and downs with us is relative isn't it! In 55 years we have finished in the top 4, 3 times!! That by any stretch is poor, through all the chairmen, players & coaches that have come and gone in that timeframe. We have never finished above 5th since '99. No CC final since '79. The golden era of the '60's, now nearly 60 years ago!! This season has been coming for at least 3/4 years, and currently it's pretty abysmal when you look at all the stats. We are on course to be the worst EVER team in Super league the way things are going. I can understand Manuel's post, I completely get it, and like someone else said, the minute season ticket holders start not bothering, the club's actual existence is on a very slippery slope indeed.

When recession hits, as it did three times, you cut your cloth accordingly but look for new business, if you sit and wait, you stagnate and rot. Trinity’s business is rotting. No visible signs of addressing the matter other than a few sticking plasters. If you keep doing the same thing, you get the same results. This equates to Proctor and Atoni. Utter failures and not completing their jobs to the best of their ability, so it looks. Their reward, carry on being a failure. The club is now its own worst enemy by not embracing 2023 and all it offers in social media, etc. =#FF0000Carry on Regardless. It’s becoming a farce. Everyone has an opinion, even from Australia. The big difference is your not watching poop here.'"

| Also a supporter of over 65 years and feeling now resigned to our fate. I feel that it is time for the people in charge who have obviously achieved a great deal in very trying circumstances to communicate with the fans, admit mistakes have been made and develop a strategy to salvage the rest of the season and also outline the way forward if relegation does come. In conclusion I will add that I will be supporting next season come what may. It is what I do.

| I think most supporters agree with some aspects of both sides of the argument. I think what is annoying most supporters is the lack of communication coming from the top. Fitness of the players for me seems to be way short, especially our new overseas signings, who perhaps thought it was going to be far easier than it actually is. Im not sure the sacking of Mash is the answer as it just wastes more money , that could be better spent on playing staff. Most agree its a step too far to revive our season, perhaps it is, but that can be a positive as some have said, watching a team winning some games and building success slowly is better than watching us playing with no zip, staying up and being even worse next season.

| I have no beef with anyone on here (except an odd few who seem to think that the world is full of unicorns and money grows on trees) I contributed to this thread because I thought the whole issue lacks balance… and it’s becoming a witch hunt… which I believe is in the best interests of no one.
I actually think the business strategy for the future of the club is a good one… stymied by the pandemic and recession (the causes of which are another vitriolic debate) but… our club is living within its means.. other clubs are not… one only has to look at the demise of some leading RU clubs in the UK to wonder at the fate of some of our clubs. When debt becomes unsustainable or the hobby directors move on??? What then!
That I now live in Australia… should be a reason for me not to have (or not be allowed to express) an opinion on the matter (despite my being a fairly regular face at the club from 75 to 200icon_cool.gif is disappointing. I would suggest that it is you don’t like me having the opinion I do… rather than that it is expressed from overseas that is the issue.
I subscribe to Trinity TV and watch every game(despite knowing the result) and live on Fox Sports when I can… and on my infrequent visits to the UK I have been to every game available… including academy games… my love for the club and the game has not changed since that first game against Keighley in 1975.. it gets in your blood and won’t go away.
Anyway I love this club and will be a fan until I die.

absolutely not.... I am always persuadable to other stratagems, ideologies.. and opinions founded on reality... I am, however, a little intolerant of emotional outbursts (something I was totally guilty of in my younger years).. and personal agendas.
Forums are based on debate and open discussion, about things that are important to the group. But there are aspects of this general debate which, whilst they have some truth, are moot or offer nothing other than criticism and/or vitriol; victory was never won by those seeking revenge.

Thats a little aspirational - maybe in an ideal world.
Emotions do play a massive part in sports , and by extension the fans, and hence the odd outburst in here.
And victory is indeed obtained by those seeking revenge. You live down there. You’ve seen State of Origin, right?

| We all have our ideas as to how we are where we are, but I haven't seen anyone come up with an answer to the problem yet, other than sack him or he has to go.
Is that alone going to get us out of this mess, we have no money to speak off, so what's the answer?????

Well as re. changing the coach, we'll never know if that improves the players' performances with a new one, until it happens will we?! The performances mainly have been very similar, despite using most of the squad, and bringing in loan players, so what does that tell us? The coach can't seem to rectify the problems, or the majority of the squad aren't up to it consistently, too many past their best, not enough quality in the key positions? Therefore it would take a very good, experienced coach to turn this around without significant recruitment, which takes money for starters......so we pretty much are knackered whichever way you look at things!! So i'm not sure there is an answer that's viable and attainable.

This sums it up for me.
Interesting article in the media today from Francis Cummins saying players were being shown the door with no plans for recruitment at the end of last season…..
“It just appears that Willie had been making decisions about players he wanted and nothing happened and players he was letting go he didn’t get to replace them.
“It just went on too long and the writing was on the wall that they weren’t going to spend the money that they saved.”

Pretty much. It’s just getting the best and trying to make the best of what we have with small additions. That may take a bit of time and may or may not work.

| So we have no money, just how much money don't we have. Carter's done a marvellous job on brainwashing the supporters and getting them to constantly spill the same skint message.
So I ask again just how much money don't we have. If you remember our recruitment was going to take shape because it was a world Cup and plenty of quality players would be available.

| There’s not a successful sporting team in this world who doesn’t have a wealthy financial backer. For me, MC has cut his cloth accordingly to create financial stability for us, for that he’ll always have my respect, without him we would not be here. Unfortunately, he’s unwilling to plow anymore money into the club, and tbh I can’t blame him. After finding out how much Ken Davy had ploughed into Huddersfield with mediocre success it just shows success isn’t always guaranteed.
Newly promoted Leigh and us are the only teams in SL now that have never been in a major final in the last 25 years. With us more than likely going down this year, without a wealthy financial backer I can see that statistic going on for a further 25 years sadly. We all have ideas of how this should be sorted out, but without the financial clout we don’t stand a chance. The days of playing money ball with players like Paul Aiton, Timmy Smith, David Fifita etc from Aus are no more with the size of the Cap over there and poorer exchange rate. Sadly our recruitment and retention over the last 2 years has been atrocious, resulting in where we are now. I believe the board have had the best intentions, I mean why wouldn’t they, it’s not Ted Lasso, but it has fallen short of where we need to be and sadly the book stops with them. It would be really good to have a fan forum to see what therir plans are when we do go down, will we still be full time and what do we need in terms of crowds etc for this to be achieved.
Most fans I hope will still be there next year supporting us, but the club more than ever needs to communicate with the fans, because there simply wouldn’t be a club without our support, it’s a 2 way thing.
