Gary Cooper, great full back. He also was a great "kicking" full back. I recall once against Bradford Northern full back, Terry Price, they both played "foot tennis" against each other; a continuous volley of about thee kicks apiece.

They replaced him with John Gallagher which turned out to be a bad move.

I have not read all the thread but one of the best relatively recently was Martin Holland who could tackle and catch the high ball. The one problem was he lacked any pace which always held him back.

You've got to give it to Jowitt He's stuck with uit & now looks like he's coming into his own. If he can keep up this form definitely should be our No1. Well done that man

RL Project (great website btw) has Spencer down as playing 4 seasons for Leeds, from '87 to '91. I always thought it was a trade for Mason, Wilson, Conway plus cash.

Holland was safe as houses at the back, it's a different role these days though, I suspect if he played now he would be a defensive centre. I seem to re-call he had offers from clubs in the first division but didn't want to play for anyone else apart from Trinity.

We got Phil Fox, Andy Mason, Mark Conway and Keith Rayne

After they bought Gallagher they released Spencer so he came back.
