Its opinion because neither of us can say how Neil would play now but
1) his goal and points scoring would be even higher as there are more points for tries and he's kicking a lighter ball on a Tee.
2) he's a clever guy shown by playing in 50s 60s and 70s while the game changed around him. Only a season short of playing in the 80s too.
I saw him score 2 tries for Bradford against the Aussies in 78 when they were modernising the game and we were left behind. He wasn't.
3) Size and power is very much part of our game.
4) when you say he'd have less room. He played in an era when the defences were much closer, in muddy weather, when they could legally knock your head off and only 4 tackles.
So I reckon he's be a great in this era too. Probably playing in Oz.

Why do you do this? That's my whole point it's opinion that can't be proved. Arundal does a good job even if he isn't a Neil Fox and I suspect Neil Fox would be the first to say that.

| I don't see the centre role changing all that much over the seasons . Any good centres must be prepared to take a good thumping just before releasing the ball. In my view the best centres have always come from R L because they can time a pass better than R U centres. Neil Fox was a master in his day, Arundals more than adequate and certainly makes chances for his wing. I don't think Lynes that far behind him.
I have only seen one R U centre who i think would have made the grade in R L

| Watching yesterdays game there was one clear scoring chance for johnson heading towards hospitality box, all tupo had to do was hit him with a short pass, i nearly caught it in the stand! Tupo has power pace strength and is one of the first names on the team sheet, but if he could actually pass a ball he could make a" great: centre.
Lynne and arundel is a tough call but johnston merits a centre that can give him a pass with a bit of space, for that reason would have arundel in the team.

8 of your starters out? suspect your coach wouldn't see it like that? Did you ever actually get into our half without a penalty assist or in some cases 2 on the trot, we dropped the ball on at least two occasions when we would have expected to score. Agree you should be pleased with result as its closest you will come to a win this season against the trinity.
PS we were also lacking randall, huby, horo and had a largely second string set of backs on the field for most of the second spell

I reckon both teams got a lot out of the game in terms of a run out with no injuries.
They are not a good indicator of main season. A lot more at stake.
As we play Hull KR first it's important for us to have that first 17, whichever that is, ready to go.

| I suppose everyone has their own idea as to what makes a quality centre. Arundel isn't the quickest, but when you have the wingers we have, surely it's speed of thought that's more important! For me he's the best all round centre we have, and crucially he's the best defensive centre we've got. For me it would be him and Tupou, but I haven't got a problem with Lynne starting. As for the game, it was your typical pre season fare, like others have said, no injuries it looks like, so can't wait now for the real stuff to begin.....

| How can you comment on Neil if you never show him play? I was previliged so watch him many times and can tell you he was a special player. First of all his goal kicking was brilliant he knocked them over from the halfway line either side of the field and with a leather ball that weighed a ton when wet, His speed was deceptive because of his hight and his points record speaks for itself. and don't forget all this was achieved when the game was part time, if he had been lucky enough to receive the same attention as today's players in a full time environment he would have been a sensation, trust me.

Like you say at the start of your post Tupou plays inside Johnstone. So Lyne or arundel wouldn't really make a difference to Johnstone.

Arundel actually plays both sides depending on who plays the other position.
I'm assuming left is his best but it's harder to play right so he gets that role instead of the others.

| Arundel does what a good centre is supposed to do.
He can tackle, can pass and knows when to pass and looks after his winger.
Before Arundel got injured against Sheffield the other season, he and Tom were forming a super partnership.
He's a quality player.

I'll give you McGillvary. You can jog on with the rest though. I also love how being an Italian international is somehow an important quality since any man and his dog can quailify.

It's a thirty man game now if you can't put a good 17 put with just 8 missing you're suffed mate and let's be honest how many of those 8 were crucial - come off it.
