| A definite no for me, he's left Cas, Salford and now Leigh under a cloud, what does that tell you? And what makes us think that we have the management that can help this leopard change his spots?

| Quote ="vastman"Not how it works unfortunately.
I don't get you and Bren and the others on this one. Scott Moore has as bad if not worse history than Chase yet we are all now in awe of the lad and panicking at his loss.
If we had anybody available to replace Finn or Miller or Moore if injured I'd agree. Problem is we have not. We have Howarth who is a band aid player, great cover for the odd game but not for a prolonged period, not if you're serious about progress.
As for Chase's affect on the club I'm bored to death on that one to be honest. Clean sheet every time for me though I fully accept this is trickier than most. It worked with Brough and numerous others but occasionally failed with people like Sammut, its the risk you take.
One last point, Cas made Chase think he was god almighty and they rightly got rid when he started to believe it, not an unusual RL story. However he went to the good Dr's meat grinder (Salford) which is a club that's been destroyng players for years (remember a certain Tim Smith?). Sure it ended bad for Smith with us and probably would with Chase but that doesn't mean we won't get some great times as we did with Smith.
I regailed you with this story before but Kear once told us at a SWAG meeting (I think) that "the people you'd ask into your team are not always the ones you'd invite home for sunday dinner" - I won't say which little player he was on about
. Basically sometimes you need the player more than the person and that's the risk you take to suceed and that's the Coaches hardest decisions.'"
I remember that quote from Kear and I absolutely agree.
I also agree we have made bad eggs into good ones.
The difference with Chase is that he isn't a project or last shot when we have nothing else. If Moore or Cockayne (spell?) hadn't worked it didn't really affect the team. Smith was a broken product but he was a good fit for the team so worth a shot when we didn't have any other options.
What we have is working now. We don't need an emergency half back replacement today (we may do tomorrow)
Chase for me is your lead guy. You build you team around him. And I don't want to build a team around him.
Chase is unplayable when he is on it, but adding him to the team will completely change our structure.
I don't think Finn or Miller would be as good if he was in the team.
Nothing to do with his personality.......though I'm not inviting him to dinner any time soon either.
If we need to cover Moore I want a hooker.
If we need to cover half back I'd rather get a young kid with skills and something to prove.

| Yes I would have him i agree totally with Vasty, The lad as had problems with depression and I know what that is like the one person who could get him right is not coming until end of the year but he is worth a shot.

| Even at this stage couldn't we get JK's opinion regarding the possible signing of Chase
Or even be a part of the negotiating process
Don't believe that would be a conflict of interests to Batley

Not what I meant. I don't expect the club to even attempt that it's not our job, that can only be done by the lad himself. However some times some players just fit some clubs, I personally think it worth the risk. At the end of the day with a pay as you play deal not much can't be fixed if it goes wrong.
Rugby League is not the real world and in a way you're looking for people with freakish ability and on occasions those people are sometimes freaks themselves - it's what makes them able to do what they do. Maybe it's just me but after thirty years of just getting by I'm up for a gamble and to dream a bit.
Sport is all about dreams, so as a fan you can imagine great things even at Wakefield. Imagine a Wakefield where an injured Finn or an out of sorts Moore or Miller can be replaced by a rejuvinated Chase (even if only 80% the player he was) allowing us to push on to top six and a trip to Wembley. It might not work that way but then again it just might, fate sometimes favours the brave.
I can only talk for myself but on this one I'd go with it and happily take the risk and dam the consequences.

| If Chase even hinted that he might want to come to Wakefield, do you people really think Chester and Carter wouldn't be going all out to get his signature ?
If the finances are there to fund it and he wanted to come, trust me, we are not in a position to turn that gift horse down if we are serious about staying in the top 8.
More injuries are inevitable; and to pivotal positions if someone like Chase is willing to come to Belle Vue......Bring it on !!!

Possibly so, but there are a lot of ifs in there.
He's not worth breaking the bank for imho.
Of course he'd be good. He is quality. But that isn't all that we are interested in.

| Surprised that Leeds aren't having a pop.
They are desperately short of anything creative and they have plenty of cash, (if required) to take a punt on someone like Chase.
Also, they have some experience in dealing with players that have wandered from the straight and narrow.

| I see 2 possible outcomes if we were to sign him; 1, he comes with his head screwed on and turns out to be a revelation or 2, we end up with another Tim Smith/Kevin Locke episode.

| The lads got talent to burn, he also seems to have a massive problem . If and only if he could arrive on a short contract I would say why not. Not sure how the rest of the squad would react and with player power more prominent in todays game it could result in ill feeling in a squad with loads of team spirit.
One things for sure we have been looking for half back cover for most of the season and a focused Rangi would certainly push for selection.
Im sure the club will be aware of the Rangi situation and make an evaluation . Not many options are available to Rangi just who has a place begging without having to ship a player out and just who might take the gamble.

| I'd give him a contract for a month if possible, with the possibility of his contract being extended til the end of the season. His Mrs is from Castleford and I doubt Castleford would actually have him back and maybe if he comes here proves to us and mostly importantly himself in training, acting professionally and with maturity him being told that he will get his chance eventually as well as him having no pressure may get the best out of him. He is definitely a good player and can cover all pivotal postions 6,7,9 and even 1.
He is a class act but I suspect he may be having a break from the game to get himself together - hopefully he isn't suffering from mental illness again and gets through this tough time.

| Has RC severed all ties with his current club? If not why not try and get him on loan, a month initially which could be extended if he is 'ok' on and off the field, if not, send him back on the next available bike! We could also make a (small) contribution to his wages for taking him off his parent club's hands.

| Not wishing to be too contrary but, surely the guy will get a better offer than "pay as you play" from elsewhere ?
Everyone knows that he has talent and issues in equal measure but, there will be a club out there that gives him a 12 month contract or maybe a return down under.
I cant envisage him going anywhere to get paid match by match ?
The other and perhaps main issue for any club taking him, is the effect that he would have n the rest of the squad.
This bloke could completely unsettle the whole squad and if that were to happen, it's not even worth having him for nowt.

He's had more clubs than Lee Westwood and I don't think that Lee Smith was at any of the others.

| Would always be a divider of fans opinion he can be ordinary for 70 mins then change a game in the other 10 the lad has plenty of talent of that we know he also has his problems. Pay as you play and see how it goes would be the option but cant see him wanting that. Would I want him with his undoubted talent of course I would. Would I want him with his supposed attitude and upsetting of the squad not a chance... Pay as you play behave or the door is very much over their at the first hint of trouble would be the option

| The lads talent is obvious, but we rely on team spirit and good ol' fashioned grit to get us over the line, more so than other teams in the division.
Chase has got form for being a disruptive a-hole, assaulting people, having his contract terminated etc. Moore was a last chance saloon signing that came good, but Chase is a different animal.
Plus, even if we did get him - who would you drop to accommodate him? Finn & Miller are in good form, Jowitt isn't going anywhere - so you're left with hooker. Would you really want Chase as the man to get through all that tackling? - Not me!
