It's what's around it that makes a ground appealing to some fans.
Most don't want to walk round an industrial estate for the best part of half an hour to forty five mins, if they get to the ground early!
Although you seem to have this idea that you are always right and people should gather and listen to the 'Messiah' speak his words of wisdom to the masses.
I think I'll give it a miss!

| Just from a personnel point of view belle vue 5 mins from home park at bottom of heath common 5 mins walk to ground, not too bothered about facilities as i can get a drink find a toilet easy enough watch boys 5 mins back to car 5 mins home, job done. As for the ground just a coat of paint and a new stand on the west side will do for me . as i say just personnel.

| For sentimental reasons Belle Vue, but i have serious doubts to whether enough funds could be raised to make it look anything other than a bodge it up job as it's so far gone. In an ideal world the better, more practical, choice would be starting from scratch at Newmarket although like others i was never struck on its location.
My worry is that if we don't get anything out of Yorkcourt then it will ultimately be neither.

I think he's drinking something a lot stronger than Shandy (possibly 24 hours a day with some of the utter tripe that gets posted)

| Newmarket will be a no starter, and that's fine by me. Trying to get the public to visit a stadium with nothing around it in the middle of an industrial estate, and only one A road to it would have proved troublesome . Free buses I bet,
Wipe the slate clean, back to the drawing board and start again.

| Thornes Park would have been perfect but we have a backward council. Newmarket was then stated as our only option but that looks unlikely now and is abit out of the way, they're plenty of other sites within the City boundary old empire stores site, paragon etc but if our only option is to stay and upgrade Belle Vue I'd be happy as long as it's well thought our and a proper redevelopment.

I would sooner visit an area that you describe as opposed to Agbrigg. Lets face it apart from the ground why the hell would anyone want to go down there. You can create a great ground down there if you have the money but the surrounding area will always massive negative.

As it's taken you an hour and a half to reply, I take it you have been having a stroll in the fields and by the river to back your statement up and make you feel better?
Do most fans frollick in the fields before a game?
It will take more than fields and a river to get the fans flocking in!
What about the Conny Club? The Duke? The Ruddy Duck?
I praised the KC, if you missed that?

| This whole business of the ground is frankly now boring- but I suppose I would rather stay at Belle Vue because I've been going there that long I see it as the clubs spiritual home.
I'll believe a new/improved stadium when I see it but for now I'd settle for a but more success on the field (the best in RL incidentally).

| How can anybody get bored strolling all the way up Aberford road to look at the green green grass of Newmarket, then close your eyes and listen to the motorway traffic screaming past whilst smelling the fragrant aroma of the river. another good point is that its only 6 quid in a taxi the bad news is that's only one way, if you don't want to sample the delights that Newmarket has to offer then I'm afraid its 12quid round trip, that's not bad for the affluent newby who 5 years' ago was on 40k a year, can't imagine what wedge he's on now, but if that's the price you put on being a proper Wakey fan then it's money well spent.

| Seems to be quite a bit of rubbish being spoken on here about which location is best, by both sides. For me personally Newmarket would win hands down. I could walk there from my home. The facilities originally described there are unlikely to ever be provided at Belle Vue there simply isn't the space. If you are a fan with a car it's very easy to get to along Aberford Road or along Leeds Road and then down through Patrick Green. For an away fan travelling by car it would be fantastic to get to straight off the M62. What the parking arrangements would be like I don't know but could it really be worse than Belle Vue?
If you don't have a car there are currently only two bus services an hour that go near Newmarket to/from Wakefield and one which runs infrequently from Rothwell to Castleford which passes the location. It has been accepted that the bus service would have to be improved if the stadium is built.
The distance by car is shown on Google as 4.5 miles from the Bull Ring taking 11 minutes. Walking comes up with 4.2 miles.
As for Belle Vue, having been going there since 1960 I would miss the place but what worries me is that very little redevelopment would actually take place and income would stagnate. So for me it has to be Newmarket if we ever want to grow this once great club of ours.

| Oh! and by the way my Grandfather managed to get from Rothwell to Belle Vue every match until he died by two buses.
I did forget about the watering hole situation and can confirm that since the closure of the Spindle tree the nearest pubs are the Thatched House in Stanley, The Rising Sun Bottomboat and the Mexborough Arms which is further down Newmarket Lane. These three are all about 20 -25 minutes walk away from where the stadium would be and I'm sure would relish the extra business.

| Head or heart ?
As I've been going to Belle Vue for over 50 years and despite its run down state my heart says Belle Vue.
But my head says Newmarket. Newmarket would be a new modern stadium and I know some people think they are soul less but it would I believe be better at attracting new supporters because of the novelty of being new. Also whilst there may be public transport issues to overcome I think its in a better location appearance wise than Belle Vue. I also believe that its location adjacent to the motorway would make it more attractive to outside parties looking to use the stadium for conferences, meetings etc. which would produce more income generation potential and give us a better and more sustainable future.
So my vote is for Newmarket but if we were to have a complete rebuild and I mean a complete rebuild of Belle Vue rather than a lick of paint or repair I could accept that.

| I'd rather have a new stadium, hands down; even with a refurb of BV, we'll never shake off our small time image, nor will we escape the infrastructure problems that currently hamper us - parking, facilities, access, additional revenue streams etc etc.
That ship appears to have been hijacked by Colin Mackie however, so I guess we'll take whatever consolation prize is on offer.

| Would the income from conference/marketing facilities go into the Clubs coffers or go to the stadium trust to run the stadium even staying at BV it would become a community stadium so would go to the latter. Each option has its pros and cons BV easy access via Train (stations at Westgate,Kirkgate and Sandal/Agbrigg) easy access by Bus route and not far from city centre, down side is car access and parking.Newmarket Trains nil Bus service poor even during the week let alone Sundays Car could not be any better. The one advantage with BV is the walk up fan few lads down town Sunday dinner nice day hey lets have a walk down BV they are playing so and so and that walk up would dwindle at Newmarket.Been mentioned about a car park off montague street so parking would get better at BV.Me personally I don't us car as like a couple of pints and being in Outwood not much difference traveling wise but prefer BV.

| I've voted BM.
Like SC I am attached to BV through emotion, but NM offers a great chance to start afresh and build a new stadium, with all the modern needs, including great circulation around the facility, whilst continuing to okay at BV until the day we move.
Add to that the revenue potential for meetings and conferences, in such an ideal position, and financially it makes by far more sense than staying at BV, IMO.
As for the deal, in theory at least, the stadium would be owned by the a Trust, but the operation would be the club, so these revenue streams would come back to the club, not the a Trust. The Trust will only need a minimal revenue to cover some admin/legal charges plus anything, under the current model, borrowed.
There are so many things up in the air just now though that we really and truly don't know how it's all going to pan out!

| What does annoy me is the attitude of the RL 'I'm all right Jacks' who luckily for them have had a more sympathetic local authority or have been able to become 'bedfellows with a football club. Or both!
They point their fingers at Wakefield claiming no attempt has really been made to have a new ground. Some really believe that!
Looking back, how many other clubs have started out optimistically on new ground ventures, only to have the 'rug pulled from under their feet'?
Thus a couple of new stands at Belle Vue and renovation of entrance and surrounds would do for me to begin with as that does appear to be now more achievable.
