| Quote ="asmadasa"We should be with our poor defence. Wood, Wildie and Maskill would/will be targeted at 9. Washbrook is no slouch and has covered there with Hull. His move to 9 would enable Annakin/Kirmond/TT to play 13. Not ideal but think anything else would provide defensive weak links that will be exploited by Cas.'"
What is it with the fetish for playing players out of position?
Playing our loose forward out of position in order to make space to play one of three other players out of position (one of whom may have only just landed in the country and may not be actually any good) as well does not sound like a plan to me. In fact it sounds down right lunacy.
The club made the decision that we didn't need Ellis, and it was never beyond the realms of possibility that Aiton may be missing sooner or later, so we have to play Wood at hooker with Wildie on the bench or Maskill if deemed ready. Agar/Glover/Elstone/The Club are ultimately judged on decisions they make and they should have the courage of their convictions and if we didn't need Ellis - Wood, Wildie and Maskill will be sufficient, they should live or die by the decisions.

| As a total gamble and looking for a player to get the rest fired up,i would stick Cockayne at hooker. He can scoot them to death and has decent hands.Smith to stand off,Mellars into centre and Lyne/AN Other on the wing.

| Trojan is right.
Wood in at 9 and bring Wilde in to the squad, unless someone can nip down to Post Office Road and grovel to Andy Ellis.
Its like deja vu but, we could do with some inspiration

Not that i can see anywhere but perhaps the Club would want to keep this kind of key team info quite in the lead up to a key game, unlike the original poster who revealed this, i seem to remember he revelaved the Justin Poore not playing in the lead up to the Widnes game?

To be fair, if our other 2 main hookers and our Academy hooker had been injured as well as our first choice hooker then Cockayne is probably next in line. Seem to recall him playing their for Rovers when with them.
I also reckon that there will be other dafter suggestions for hooker before the thread has run its course.

| lol - if Wood is not up to it then why the hell is he in our squad. Same with Wildie.
Whoever plays 9, someone from the middle is going to have to step up and do some defence. We might as well have someone with experience of playing at dummy half to do the job rather than shoehorning people in.

| If the injury is confirmed I am sure RFA will take the opportunity to tinker with his selection so as to accommodate Mellers , Lynne and Molloy who if any of them are SL level I will ate chaff. On the young Maskill suggestion, he could be a talent worth developing but it’s hard to judge when Dickens only gives him 15minutes each game preferring to play the invisible man and a lad who can’t pass before him

Perhaps people at the club need to be more careful about "sensitive" information being dished out?

| as a fan, i would love to see maskill at 9 for this match. he is young and with his fathers links to both clubs, would relish the opportunity. sometimes you see players come into sides in these big (big by perceived media interest) games and their careers take off. it also shows faith in junior development.
however, this won't happen. if aiton is out, the hooker will either be wood with smith at stand off and lynn/mellars in centre or wildie with wood at stand off.
not my choice but this is what will happen.

| Teams playing Saturday get announced tomorrow so its hardly going to be handing over unwanted news to the opposition is it ?
If Wood is WTW's second choice hooker he must surely be in the starting position if Aiton is injured.

To be completely honest i dont care if i dont find out whos playing until i turn up on match day, but i accept others like to be in the know much sooner.
Where i think this becomes an issue (or can do) is if it becomes a negative factor for the team (or a positive factor for the opposition.)
I don't think this forum is an all powerful RL go to for SL clubs or the RFL etc, but im sure people do look in weather that is directly or indirectly.
If Cas are now training towards us being without Aiton that is an advantage for them and a disadvantage for us.
If this is the case, as i suggested in my post - the club need to be more careful of who knows such info.

I didn't go on Sunday so i didn't know.
Cas may have had an idea already, and like you Bazzo i hope the info is duff and he plays.
Failing that i'd love to see young Maskill thrown into this game and given the oppo to shine that Anakin has been given and taken with both hands.
With the others we have seen what they can offer to the team, Maskill AFAIK is an out an out hooker with good lineage, so maybe this is the test he needs.
Cometh the hour...... if he's good enough...... sink or swim etc etc etc

As I said before he looked the part against Hemel - more so than some of the regular first teamers so I'd be willing to give him a go against SL opposition to see if he is ready (or even close to it).
Put him in but just make sure that we have other options available to switch players round if it doesn't work out. I wouldn't start Washy at 9 but if Maskill starts and he isn't playing well then you can switch him to there and put someone else to 13.

| It was interesting to see the young players being given a shot in the Leeds V Saints game on Monday night - 2 or 3 for Saints including Percival and the young forward who scored a great try, and for Leeds the 18 yr old former Hunslet Warriors player who didn't let himself down. That turned out to be the most entertaining televised game of the season thus far.
#justsaying, as I believe the Twitterati say.

| I was on here when you played Hemel, I came to watch and thought Maskill deserved his shot - and there's no better time than this.
I'm sure he will give Dickie Agar some selection issues for whenn Aiton is fit (assuming he isn't)
Bearng in mind you're only playing against us - we can't win an each way bet on the boat race.
No doubt we will score 26ish points, that will happen, but you yourselves will score 6/7/8 tries yourselves quite easily.
Worrying about playing Cas tells me all I need to know about your top 8 aspirations
....Cas are trying to make the eight though. As in, eight points for the season...

It's not that Cockayne couldn't give it a go he probably would but it's the wrong answer and not guaranteed to be the right one. My main argument is he is in the England train on squad as a Winger because thats what he is really good at - why take a player who is so good at that position and play him somewhere else where he may or may not work. I know why people like the idea because he is a busy player who makes lots of yard from the ruck - however a good amount of that is out wide whilst at hooker it's all up the middle. Also I've seen nothing to suggest he is a distributer of the ball.
I think you're right, if there was no genuine hooker available then maybe but it would lose us so much out wide it would negate the value for me.
