How could they object to Wheldon Road, there hasn't been a planning application put in.
No link yet but it is the talk of certain quarters. I believe Opus North are talking to other parties to see if they would be interested. The truth will come out soon enough. If the info turns out to be duff then you've nothing to worry about.

Of course if Opus are successful with finding another end user they may find Tesco objecting to any planning app for a supermarket, much like the situation referenced earlier.

Neither do I, so Tesco’s aren’t interested in Aire Street, surely, if one possible site is out of the equation, wouldn’t that make Wheldon Road a more likely site?

| Why doesn't everybody just wait until there is an announcement, it could be a big pile of BS. Tesco obviously want somewhere in Cas, maybe that place is WR and its all a smokescreen.

| Good luck to Castleford, I hope they get a new stadium or revamp Wheldon Rd somehow. Our rivalry with them is about rugby league and we are much better off with that rivalry than without it.
My opinion on their plans is that their fans need to know the truth, warts and all, whether it fills them with optimism or pessimism is irrelevant but after eight years of spin they really ought to be told it straight, they deserve that much at least.
As for the Tesco deal falling through, I've been told that's true and that Tesco are now favouring a different site. One thing is for sure, they won't allow two new supermarkets to be built in or near the town centre so if Tesco are successful elsewhere then that's the end for supermarket plans on Wheldon Rd, and you'd have to suspect the end for Castlefords franchise for a while at least.
That would be sad for their true fans and wouldn't be good for us either.

Agree, it's become boring and we've got our own issues to sort out as far as Stadium's go.

| It's quite amazing how Wakefield fans find out such information like Tesco supposedly pulling it before people connected to the deal etc
From what people much closer to the situation than Wakefield fans are saying is a 2nd Supermarket has expressed an interest in Wheldon Road and Opus are negotiating the best deal between both Supermarkets.
And here is a quote from someone in a far better position to comment than just about anyone else who isn't RW or an Opus employee:
Quote
NO, it is a case of them preferring the WR develoment as it suits there needs far better and it does not have the constrtaints of the EH development.
Tesco have obviously thrown there weight behind the WR scheme.'"

I hope you're right although it's contradictory to what I've been told by an agent who has acted on behalf of Tesco for the last 2 decades, we'll see as time will tell.
I'd love him to be wrong and hope Cas and Wakefield can confound everyone from outside the District by both breaking ground on new stadium builds. That would be fantastic for Rugby League in this area and along with Featherstones growing status and stadium improvements would see the WMDC become theundisputed best breeding ground in RL.

Maybe there is a second supermarket interested becausen Opus were searching out the market. If so then there is nothing to worry about, its business as usual. Tesco will NOT be buying Whelson Road though, they have chosen to go down another avenue. RW knows this, ask him.

| Like many posters have said I am all for Cas getting on with trying to get their own stadium and ourselves just concentrating on the community stadium at Newmarket.
Lets just hope Richard Wright thinks the same because if its true what I hear about Tesco his own stadium could be a long way off. What worries is me is that he could become a desperate little man and see his only hope of survival if Newmarket fails. Lets just hope he dosn't put his support behing the anti newmarket brigade and try to de rail our plans.

The "other" supermarket IS an Opus client, but they are not involved in the WR project and are looking at a different site in Cas.
If Opus realise the "other" one first, WR is dead. This is what is expected and is why Tesco are alos now looking at other sites, rather than WR.
Either way, not good for Cas.

Yeah they are the club we love to hate, I'd would like to beat them season after season, but without their new ground - they won't be in the same league as us! (unless we fail as well)
I might enjoy various kinds of humiliation to be heaped upon them, but nothing that could seriously damage the club - I look forward to the derbies too much.

If Opus are negotiating the best deal, then how are they not in a far better position to comment than just about anyone? The person you refer to must have more inside knowledge than the people appointed to broker any deal. If that is the case then why are Opus being paid to negotiate?
