Course you were Vasty!!
I am not derailing a thread about the best British wing Prospect we have had in over a decade, il leave you to get on with the ego plumping fight for the common man nobody likes us we do not care Trinity stance.
I appreciate he does not play for Trinity so you will never see anything in him, or always be too busy trying to shoot him down like you do Westerman, me il let you carry on and i will just continue watching and enjoying them develop regardless of what shirt they are in and hopefully proving you wrong.

| He's impressed me so far because he is different in style to most wingers, and he seems strong enough. He has that quick-start that Robinson used to have, where he would be away quickly over the first ten yards, and that is the important part as it breaks the line and catches out slow defences. I'm not sure he's that quick over 100m, as I'm not sure he has genuine pace as per Peter Fox or Dave Halley, but he will be troublesome for the opposition. I prefer him to the plonk-it-down-from-two-yards-out Gardner, who will be redundant when Gidley packs it in.
Good luck to him. His main difficulty will be the extent to which other sides exploit the height issue, and maybe he will need Pat Richards to cover for him on the kicks, because that will be the obvious ploy from opposition kickers.

| Quote ="vastman"Give it a rest, that is a ludicrous statement even by your standards. Penny or Calderwood were loads better prospects, if you listened to the Wire and Leeds fans of a similar blinkered nature. In sport the next best thing usually ends up as tomorrows does anyone remember such and such.
Best prospect in the last decade
You are Phil Clark I want my fiver.'"
Its called an opinion just because you do not agree with it do not get on your high horse!!
I feel he is the best Wing prospect we as a country have had since Jason Robinson and his play is backing that up. You mention Penny and Calderwood but both need the service always have always will due to his style Ainscough is capable of making a break out of any position on the field.
Also to state Penny and Calderwood who were not near the first team with there respective clubs at the same age as Ainscough, let alone being 4 clear in the try scoring charts in a pretty poor team, were better prospects is an odd one.
Still it suits your style to spout garbage if it means you get to enhance your rep as a legend on here.
Could i just ask on a serious point how you think most wingmen could be potentially the next Offiah or Robinson?
Thats the thing about opinion and posting on here, some of us can back them up with facts and reasoned debate, when it comes to players of other clubs you cannot.

| Penny's problem was that he became over-hyped too quickly. From what I have seen of Ainscough, I think he is a better rugby player, whereas Penny is just quick and elusive. I could imagine Ainscough scoring with two men in front of him, whereas Penny and Calderwood would both need a clear field ahead.

For the reasons stated above i think Vasty is just now clutching at straws. Ainscough is clearly a more rounded player than Penny or Calderwood, and both were older than Ainscough is now when they came onto the scene.
Ainscough is playing in a poor Wigan side, is walking the try scoring charts and has proven his ability against the best players in the world at his age group. He is clearly in my opinion the better prospect, the reasons above i feel justify this. I would like to see Vasty justify why Calderwood and Penny are/were better prospects in his opinion. Sadly i feel it will fall on deaf ears like my question as to why he thinks most wingmen have the potential to be as good as Offiah and Robinson.
Sadly Vasty sees my name next to a post gets his knickers in a not and starts digging the holes he makes for himself deeper by the post.

In case you struggle with the English language (as you seem to), of course I talk (sic) for other posters as I am one! In addition, I fully understand that you don't care what other people think. That is the definition of an over-inflated ego. QED.

| I was with Jonh when he first saw Ainscough v AIS at Wakefield. You could see then that he had the making of a top class winger.
He actually reminds me more of Michael Hancock who plaoyed for Brisbane Broncos. I've had a bit of stick on the Wigan board because I have been critical (over) of Ainscoughs defence in particular his reading of kicks. However he is a genuine talented kid, who if he continues to progress will be an International in the not too distant future.
What are your thoughts on the other Wigan youngster, Sam Tomkins? I thought he was superb yesterday, very quick and elusive and a brilliant tackler for one so slight in build.

You will find nobody more appreciative or passionate about young players and there ability regardless of who they play for, the development of players like Shenton, Westerman, Pitts, Tomkins, Ainscough, Myler, Turner, Cudjo, Lawrence, Fergusson (better add him or Vasty may have a fit!) etc etc etc is one thing that i have enjoyed more than any other this year.
I am actually enjoying getting out and watching kids in amateur games as well as I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way

| i think both Tomkins and Ainscough are very good prospects and was surprised when i heard that there was a chance that neither of them would start.
Tomkins looks to have the X factor every time i have seen Wigan play.
I think Ainscough has a few weaknesses defensively but who hasn't?

| Disappointing perfomance. Poor show lads. Hopefully defeat yesterday will turn out to be a one match blip and that normal service is resumed in Edinburgh. w*g*n can have their two points, because we'll get 'em in the Challenge Cup. Just keep those scrawny bandits Leulaui and Ainscough quiet, especially Ainscough.

And even if they do it won't matter.
There's even more coming through.
This weekend
Wigan beat Wakefield U18 at Orrell 36 - 10
Wigan beat Wakefield reserves 62 - 8 at Wakefield.
And what will poor Wakefield do then?
Where's the next generation of Wakey players coming from?

| weve got a few forwards coming through aswell, ben davies at prop who in a couple of years will be a monster, he had korkidas in his back pocket against hudds reserves the other week.
mossop is another quality player, currently on loan at barrow- given a chance he could be a gareth hock without the brain explosions!
liam farrell, yes! another farrell! along with ainscough he was the player who the aussies loved! hes agressive, skillfull, strong- goes with the name, he is another future gb star.
ian thornley- this lad is going to be huge, hes 17 and hes been playing reserve rugby this year, hes about 6 ft 4 and he is a centre and if he continues to develop the way he is doing he will be britains falou!
