Apparently, one of the reasons the RFL like our academy set up is the fact that the lads get to play on the BV surface. BV = great surface = quality training.
As someone without ties to the amateur game it would just seem like common sense to have the kids play in better conditions. Surely the object is to be able to play against the opposition - not against the elements.
Plus - if the pinnacle of our game is a fast-track, top-of-the-ground game played at high pace in good handling conditions - why are we preparing our kids for the exact opposite.
Get the kids playing in the summer and let the rah-rahs wallow in the mud!

| Crigg under 10's lost their first game today against a much improved oulton 12-4.
Basically a bit of naivity from the lads in trying to play rugby instead of up the jumper stuff and then knocking on because of this . Bit of a mudbath , but at least we got a game . The other bit of naivity was letting their bloke ref ! This is in no way sour grapes , but to say one team seemed to be playing one set of rules and the other team another is an understatement , but i'll leave it at that .
Hopefully it'll do us good in the long run.

cas panthers 12 game winning run was also brought to a end going down 12-4 at stanningley, take nothing away from stanningley who just wanted it that bit more than us in a game played hard but fair in appalling conditions.
everything about today summed up whats wrong with the british game both sets of players covered from head to toe in mud hardly a pass thrown all game and although there was plenty of grunt up front skill levels were never seen.
even jj buchanan summed it up well after the game saying im glad we dont play in them conditions.

i can assure you it wasnt narrowed cos it was the worst part of the pitch, but it was the same for both sides and it was horses for courses and they played on a pitch size that suited them and not us but hey thats home advantage for you.

| Stanley u 10's beat Eastmoor away 28-12. A great team performance that was opitomised by the fact we scored 16 unanswered points in the second half. Bit of fistycuffs, but that just played into our hands. Hitting some real form at the mo, just dissapointed we may not get another crack at your guys Rob before xmas Fixture was on for the 19th but they seem to have removed it
Unlucky at Stanningley, not an easy place to go. Thought us beating them last week might go against you.

yeah im under the impression that this saturday is the last week of fixtures,we are due to play drigg at home but whether its played is anyones guess with the weather, both u8s and u9s were called off yesterday but they allowed the u14s to play on the same pitch.
maybe we will pay you a visit on the first saturday in march.

| cas panthers u10s finished for the winter break with a 36-14 win over drighlington.
the pitch was in good condition for the time of year and there was some good rugby played by both teams who were locked at 14-14 at the start of the second half but 22 unanswered points gave the panthers a deserved win.

| Another mudbath up at garforth too - the game was in doubt all week , but no rain meant it went ahead. Slow start from the crigg lads , but the second half was much better as they got used to the conditions . Poor ref once again , but he was poor both ways , so no real complaints that way - he's allegedly a player who had to pack in cos of injury but wanted to put a bit back , good on him , but didn't seem to have much of a grasp of the rules & no communication with players just learning the game . Just hope he improves - more balls than me though, one job I don't fancy !
Final score
garforth - 16
crigg -24
(under 10's)
