Since 1979 the only time I ever got exited by a Wakefield cup run was last year. We are incapable of beating a decent team in the cup because our form is so much peaks and troughs. Every time we are up against a decent side we are in a troughs like today!

But that's the point - just like Chelsea this week - you wait so bloody long for a chance like that - and the one time the chips fell our way, we blew it!

Based on our current record in this comp it will be another 30 years before we get another chance like last year - and I'll be too bloody old to get there!

I really have had the hope of ever seeing us compete for something knocked out of me today - I know my optimism will return at some point, but for now it evades me completely. I'm with the Wigan fans - ground, no fans!

I know we have hope of a better future with Newmarket, but it seems light years away right now!

I have lost count of the times we have gone out to Bradford, Leeds, Wigan Warrington and Hull since that day 30 years ago
In fact I do not think we have ever put one of these out of the cup in the 34 seasons I have supported the club

But there was no platform for them as our pack again got bulldozed by Wigan's. The big difference was in the way the two teams ran the ball in. Us slow and turning and stopping before the tackle them running straight in and hard, handing off and causing problems.

Have to say that for a top club Warrington have a pretty poor record too. I can remember one final appearance by them (80s) I think. They have been in the top division more consistently than us.

Yeah but wasnt he meant to be playing stand off ?? Why was he first man in the tackle ?? Where was the pk making the tackles - no body else put there hand up !!

its just a little odd seeing Mr optimistic being so down especially after all the highs off the past month. I personally don't think a cup final spot would of been ours this time round and for me this season is already a championship one with news that just maybe our luck as changed on the ground front. 4 months ago if you was told in may we will be in the play off berths with a better win / lose ratio and a chance off a new ground but to be eliminated by wigan (the form team) in the last 16 of the CC then im sure like me you would of grabbed it with both hands

Mutts is right - we are better off than we were expected to be, but it's the relentless toil without the big occassion to look forward to.

Let's be honest - who wouldn't hope to achieve something in the CC with JK in charge - if he can't get them up for it - no-one can.

Maybe they were too up for it and as a result even the most experienced, generally reliable players were making basic errors that you wouldn't normally expect from them. We must have made more handling errors in that game than our first 8 SL games put together



The team certainly couldn't be accused of lack of effort or desire. Considering we were being battered in the forwards we were still very much in with a chance of winning with 3/4 of the game gone. Unfortunately our errors gave the momentum back to Wigan at the crucial time. Que sera
