Not all of them, but the overwhelming consensus for remain from politicians, experts both foreign and domestic, commentators, businessmen and economists suggests that this isn't all that far from the truth TBH. One of the leading Brexit campaigners (Gove) has literally been telling people not to listen to experts. It's absurd.

| Quote ="wrencat1873"That was the point I was making.
Because we dont have the Euro, it is not Brussels controlling the British economy, it is the British government.
Farage and Johnson have been spewing out the line that we cant move because of rules created by Europe but, most people couldn't tell you any of these that make their life any more difficult.
As I said, it wasn't Brussels that brought in austerity cuts in Britain, it was our democratically elected government and it certainly wasn't Brussels trying to take money from the poorest people in our society (whilst letting the large international companies Google, Starbucks, Microsoft etc, etc pay feck all in tax), that was our British government.
The ruling classes are hiding behind and blaming Europe for all of the wrongs in this country and it's largely nonsense.
Even immigration, which is the trump cart of the Brexit campaign shows half of the total immigration coming from outside Europe (over 150,000) and this is the element that we "control".
The Brexit campaign is hoping things will be better.
Well, if we vote out on Thursday, there will be a recession in the UK next year and nobody knows quite how deep and how long this will last so, THANK YOU.'"
That's a good point about the powers that be blaming Europe...but if we ain't in they can't and will have to govern to the will of the people cos they won't have their scapegoat. How do you know there will be a recession...you're guessing. Is it because of all these experts keep saying it often enough people be live it. Most of these experts....And I use the term loosely...told us if we didn't join the euro we would sink into some sort of primeval swamp! Just goes to show you can fool some of the people all the time. No..THANK YOU for enslaving us in servitude to our unelected euro masters

From the mouth of Gove...
How we've ended up in a situation where the very people who can make an accurate a prediction about what Brexit would mean as is reasonably possible, are dismissed and vilified by people who lack even a basic grasp of the subject they're discussing, is a remarkable win for dog-whistle politics.
The worlds leading economists, politicians, defence experts and businessmen have become 'so called' experts rather than actual experts, in the space of a few weeks, simply because Michael Gove, the man who launched an all out attack on the education system in this country without ever having set foot in a classroom as anything other than a student, repeated it enough times on television. I despair.
Remain will most likely edge it today - and thank goodness - but the xenophobic, divisive rhetoric of the Leave campaign has created a powder keg of resentment in this country that will rumble on for years.

And, if the vote is remain but, a clos vote (which is expected). we will probably be doing all of this again in 10/20 years time.

You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that I give a toss about what Gove says! Or for that matter Johnson,Cameron or Osbourne. They're politicians...And therefore liars. You haven't addressed my main point, which is,all the "experts" wanted us to join the euro....And they were wrong weren't they? Or do you think that would be a good idea?

All the experts clearly didn't - because we didn't, based on the decision of some politicians; whom I presume you agreed with. So were they liars and not to be trusted - or is that only the case when they have an opinion you don't agree with?

No we didn't join the euro because Blair's pollsters told him if we did he'd lose the next election. Anyway it is what it is now....And we are in the semi!

The European court of human rights is not part of the EU so the stupid decision made yesterday will not impact on this body. I regret the decision taken but it is now up to those in charge to follow through on the promises so many have believed. We are a small country with only Great in our title after yesterday we are an even smaller part of the world.
I fear the years ahead because we cannot go back and those that voted to leave have placed their futures and working conditions into the hands of a party who for example dislike the working time directive and maternity/paternity benefits.
In respect of something that many will not have considered but the removal of roaming charges was forced on companies by the EU do you think these same companies will do the same for us and then we have border controls which work both ways. I bet many of you who going on holiday got used to being waved through with your EU passports sadly this could end and you may have to wait much longer whilst each passport is checked.

Agreed.
And with Scotland likely to break away at the earliest possible opportunity and perhaps Northern Ireland, I dont think that "Great Britain" exists any more.
We really are little England.
Perpignan is looking very expensive already

| The fallout from this decision will have knock on effects for years to come and precious few of them will be positive. A dark day for the UK which itself is likely to break up in the coming years making England nothing more than a tiny speck battling to survive against major super powers. The only real hope is that large parts of the remaining EU follows suit and it breaks up. The likelihood of that though is slim, they are not as insuler and backward thinking a 51.9% of this country.

To be fair, I get the impression that a fair number of Europeans aren't happy with the EU either. This referendum could trigger others.
Whilst I voted to stay in, now that we're out it needs to happen pretty sharpish to minimise the uncertainty. I've heard talk of 2020 as the year for the official exit, well fours years of uncertainty will be a bad thing and definitely will hit the economy.

There is no uncertainty, everything is positive, Mr Farage and Boris said so and I believe everything they tell me, NOT
The "Great British Pound" is taking on the value of a gold milk bottle top at the moment and although it will recover, this alone will bring some inflation into the economy.
As we import nearly everything that we consume, prices will certainly have to rise in the short term and thats before we start to re negotiate our trade deals.
Never mind though, we're all really well off so it doesn't matter
