His right shoulder isn’t even close to his head. There’s an accidental head clash in there but thats all, nothing illegal whatsoever.
There’s the perfect picture at the point of impact on Richard Silverwoods twitter account. Shows exactly how it happened, pretty much bang on.

But if you go in for a big tackle, and accidentally clash heads it's still a yellow. It's the tackles responsibility to not do that.

Exactly, if you go on to put a big hit it’s no longer accidental contact to the head. It’s reckless. So still 10 minutes was right.

Incorrect. There is nowhere in the rules where an accidental head clash is even a penalty, let alone a card.

I must admit I have never seen an accidental head clash penalised let alone a sin bin offence.

Contact with the Head in a tackle. It's not actually an accident if it's an upright tackle.
An accident is when two players come together when neither expected the collision.
Yaya hit the tackle aggressively and it looked like a great tackle to me, but if he makes contact with the head it's careless and a bin.

Nope, thats not what the rules state. For it to have been a penalty he would have had to lead with the head which would have been a red.

| Pop Tart, there’s a tacit acceptance within the game that accidental head clashes happen where no one is at fault.
Rugby League is a high speed intense collision sport and accidental head contact is an inevitability
The search for someone to blame when this happens is one of the things that’s killing the sport as a spectacle. Even in this modern game where they’re trying to sanitise everything there’s still a level of discretion in the officiating of a match and those Referees who truly understand the nature of the game will use that discretion well.
Officials who know nothing of the game other than the rule book will always be on the wrong side of that discretion and will frustrate the players.

I don't particularly disagree. Accidents do happen and in this case I thought it was a good tackle.
I haven't watched it back on TV yet.
But the RFL are trying to clean up the head knocks in the game and they say that if you try to do a big ball and all tackle, you have to do it without hitting the head.
If Max ducks into the tackle at the last minute I'd say it was an accident.
If he doesn't, and there is either contact with the head or shoulder.....then it's the responsibility of the tackler

And if the tackler goes low and the ball carrier steps causing the defenders head to collide with the hip bone of the attacker (a regular occurrence) whose fault is that?

Of course that's an accident. The disciplinary certainly take that into consideration.

OK how about another one
Tackler comes in at sternum height and ball carrier rotates his hip to lead with the shoulder of the ball carrying arm making clear contact with the top of the defenders head causing a concussion.
Who’s fault is that?

If he led with the elbow then the attacker is at fault.
Clearly I'm not a ref but I get what you are saying. It's not easy to make it black and white but they are trying to make it so to make it clearer.
If the defender 'accidentally' hits an attacker in the head in the act of making a tackle, unless the attacker makes it impossible not to, then it's careless at best but still warrants a sanction. Severity being relevant to the circumstances.

| The disciplinary panel will look at it and then you will get your answer one way or the other. I believe no action will be taken based on what I have seen.

Exactly, well almost.
It’s a high speed collision sport and two individuals are part of a collision, they’re both moving & reacting to the shifting posture of the other, it’s inevitable that with close to 400 collisions a game X 27 games a season that there will be contact with the head one way or the other. Unless it’s premeditated or malicious they’re both trying to avoid head contact but it happens sometimes and no one’s to blame.
My other point is that in their haste to eliminate defenders making head contact with attackers, particularly the banning of shoulder charges, they have created an imbalance in the collisions between attacker and defender.
Imaging someone like Jason Tamulolo charging at you and you have to open up your arms while trying to aim your shoulder under the ball then JT dips his body rotates his shoulder and hits you in the chest, something it’s illegal for you to do!
The rules have created an imbalance in those collisions which massively favours the attacking player while leaving the defender open to injury.
Somewhere along the line we’ll have to accept that if Rugby League is going to continue then we’ll have to also accept that unsavoury collisions will happen, on both sides of the ball.
If they won’t or can’t accept that then their efforts to save the game might actually kill it off

| The problem is, they can't accept it because of the law case about head injuries.
The sport is more likely to end if they lose that case because the let head injuries increase.
I was quite happy with the shoulder charge but I get why its now banned.
But ultimately, it's the defenders responsibility to make sure there is no head contact. If you want to try for a big shot in the chest great. If it comes off you are a hero, but you have to be accurate, otherwise you get penalised.

| The only way for the game to continue long term is for every player to sign a waiver with every contract, accepting the responsibility for any and all injuries sustained by playing the game.
The NGB and the clubs should take every precaution short of creating a different game, they should be responsible for educating players of all ages about the potential for life changing injuries and disorders.
Then, IF players want to play they should sign a waiver
