Jay's been a Leeds fan since he was a nipper, thats the team he wanted to play for and he's got his wish.

| Quote ="The Clan"I'm sad to see Jay go because he is an outstanding prospect and it would have been great to see him fulfil his potential in Trinity shirt. It would've been nice to see him develop alongside Dale Ferguson and perhaps one or two of our promising Academy players.
However, good luck to him at Leeds!
He is a very nice kid who has left the club on good terms and has expressed his gratitude to all those at Wakefield who have helped him develop to this stage.
More than that Jay was out of contract at the end of the season and whilst the club still have the right to retain his registration and command a fee from anybody who signed him, I have a sneaky feeling that by leaving mid-contract we may have got a slightly better deal.
So now it's time to move on and pave the way for the next young prospect to take his place. Hopefully with the new stadium to help we will be in a position to keep the next Jay Pitts, Gareth Ellis, Colin Maskill, Gary Spencer, Andy Kelly of the future.'"
Yes he's a good lad and has parted on good terms with the players and club.
I Have more than a sneaky feeling Clan, and anyone who knocks the lad for this move needs to think twice before doing so.
Yep lets hope that more can be found around the youth game and developed into future SL players.

Not that I think you know any of them, but Kevin Sinfield is the Messiah in the Leeds fan base, and there is no player in the game more down to earth and level headed than him. So I take it that was not what you were alluding to?

Not sure what the argument's about here, if indeed there is one.
Some people seem to be suggesting that the club simply shipped him off to make some cash. The quote from the "Life" suggests that we made him an offer and he turned it down. Now I don't normally believe all the scripted guff about "this is a dream move for me" we hear from players, but when a lad has supported a club all his life and gets the chance to play for that club, I'd say there's a fair chance he wanted the move in the first place, and wasn't forced out.
Unless, of course, people are complaining about the fact that he's gone before the end of the season so we could get some extra cash, in which case, I'd say it's up to the backroom staff to assess what kind of contribution he could have made to our playoff aspirations, and whether the extra cash outweighs the contribution.
What disappoints me most about this, though - and it goes back to a point that PB and others made a few years ago re. the Academy - is that we've spent the time and effort bringing the player on (again), only to lose him when he looks like he may go on to really achieve something in the game. That's the sad aspect in all of this, for me, the fact that we didn't really get the chance to see a return on the investment while he was still a Wakey player.

Spot on. It's the disappointment that hurts. But, I am lead to believe that Jay had shown the same symptoms as Korki and Griff did before their release. Jay has not 'shone' in the A team, which he should be, and I reckon it's fair to assume that he needed a fresh challenge and new surroundings to help him move on to the next level.
IF we assume that he had already agreed to go, then we were due 'compensation' from his new club. I could well picture Ted and Gary stood on the balcony at BV last week saying 'cards on the table....' and that if all parties accept that is happening then we may as well have the cash in the bank (to help balance the disappointing crowd on Friday).
Our sights are set on next season and how we plug the gap before some of the current academy crop reach maturity (and we will probably lose some of them along the way), but we are most definitely moving forward and there is no need to 'beat ourselves up' over Jay having gone. Good luck Jay.

I could post why, but it would be too little too late i'm afraid.
I am lead to believe by one member of the coaching staff at BV thats not the case and the reasons behind any dip in form, so i won't tow the party line on this one.

If he wanted to go what could we do to stop him? Answer nothing. Its a shame he couldnt stay but hes not exactly a world beater, a tryer a young un who makes a few yards who offers little in attack YET. I would have liked him to stay but hey lets move on.
And if the rumours are true about who were signing and keeping we'll improve next year. It is evident where not just looking at today look at the 10 kids we've signed the academy doing so well, and the fact where talking to half a dozen to sign onto full time deals.
Things on the field are looking goo, just the crowds and marketing/pr to sort now.

Don't see what more we can do other than offer him a contract (which we did). If Jay turns it down to move to Leeds we can't stop him. Remember this is a lad who would be out of contract at the end of the season.
Sounds to me like we are being fairly sensible and starting to recruit for next year, bringing in players who can offer us a good couple of years whilst our junior talent continues to develop to a standard that enables them to step up.

like mentioned by al stories conflict and before anyone quotes what he said in his interview it would be quite sensible to say that i would love to play for Leeds other than to say i have no choice.
more worryingly is we have let him go bibb as gone as to rooney can you see a trend?

Not many young players playing back to back SL at his age and capable of holding there own out there.
Of course not, that should never happen with a young player who may or may not take the next step up.
Anyway last my last post on this subject.

| There does need to be some perspective here. As many have said, if he wanted to go, what can the club do?
He's not as good as Nigel Wright was when the club sold him, or Henry Paul when we couldn't keep hold of him. Bradford 'lost' Atkins to us, Wigan 'lost' Gleeson, Huddersfield 'lost' George.
It's swings and roundabouts - he could turn out to be a world beater, he could be at Batley in two years time.
He's gone. C'est la vie!

| Do you know what - I am fed up of people getting too close to the players and not allowing the time to think things through from the perspective of running the business of a SL club.
I am taking stick here for supporting the club - but I can only say what I've been told, whether people want to believe that is for them to decide.
We, as a club (that includes us) are wishing, hoping and working for a better club. Despite what people think from the outside, and despite our obvious and many faults, we are moving forward. The club, in this thread alone, has taken some stick for a singular decision - yet elsewhere on this forum we are trying to get folk onto the academy bandwagon! This academy that shows quite clearly the forward thinking nature of the club. Unfortunately there is a time lag - and in the meantime we are still a small club, with a crappy ground and low income. When we get a 10,000 crowd in we get slated for the poor access and viewing, hence people don't come back in droves. When we get a small crowd in it must be because the marketing / pricing / whatever is all wrong.
I get truly fed up with the half-empty view suggesting that we must have rolled over and died to have lost Pitts, but what was he - a genuine fringe player who's form was not good enough to warrant a first team place and who's supported team was Leeds! Well now he's got them and they've got him - and we've got some cash that will go into the pot to help us survive and replace him with another crop of young talent who might, just might, want to play for Wakey.
I will not post on this matter further as my views, clearly based on the clubs principals, are not popular.
I am sorry that I am not a member of the old supporters club, nor do I travel on the 'fun bus'. I have chosen my path and that is to work for, and on behalf of the club. If that has offended someone - sorry!

To be honest I think many people can see the common sense in what you say. However, there will always be those who seem to reveal in lamenting certain decisions the club makes. I can remember when Paul White chose Salford over Trinity as they offered more money people were equally critical of the club. PAUL WHITE FFS.
Out of all the decisions the club has made over the past two-three years with retaining or releasing players they had a choice in I think only Peter Fox is the one the got away.
