There's a good article by Oliver Holt in today's daily Mirror about the abandonment of old stadiums.

It's very interesting what the developers have done with Arsenal's old Highbury ground. In essence what they've done is replaced the four stands with apartment buildings which surround what used to be the playing area. That playing area is now set to become children's park, when looking at the photograph Highbury is very much still evident. People could still look across what used to be the playing area and imagine Ian Wright or Dennis Bergkamp scoring that goal.

It would be great to think that Wakefield Trinity's Belle Vue ground could be developed along similar lines but I won't hold my breath.

Ted and Diane have sold the ground to a developer and are planning to live out their lives in luxury in Los Angeles.

I believe Highbury is/was a Grade II listed building so any developer who purchased the site after Arsenal vacated it could do nothing but be sensitive to the original structure. Somehow I don’t think the East Stand quite has the same architectural quality to warrant such sensitivity!!!!
I believe that Anfield, if/when Liverpool finally move to their new stadium, will also be transformed into a public park.

A public park would be nice for the resident of Agbirgg but I don’t think a developer would pay a (hopefully) decent price only to turn the area into a park.

I agree I can't see developers wanting to keep the old East stand at Belle Vue either. However, and I know it's wishful thinking and it will never happen, it would be nice to see our famous old pitch remain as a public park.

You never know it might actually be a feature that would help to sell those expensive apartments and family dwellings that every developer is moaning about not being able to shift.

I have often wondered if the old Main stand was still inplace it may have had listed status put on it by now. Probably just as well it got pulled dpwn

Highbury is in an area where apartments are in demand - London wages, enough young people with money the afford and desire that lifestyle.

Belle Vue needs more.... erm....wouldn't like to say, but Wakey does seem to have a glut of apartments that are too impractial and expensive for the needs of the population.
