But you specifically said, in bold, that the big retailers are profiteering.
Big retailers are accepted as Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury. With Aldi and Lidl next in line.
The big 4 are working directly with government on food supply chain. They are not altering prices.
Of course you'll see idiots selling higher on ebay or some individual small traders looking for an extra lift but that's not the same as you said.

| INOUT Quote ="PopTart"Bang on Fish. It seems we have a lot in common after all.
A heartfelt thank you from me.'"
Thanks PT but the sad fact is that we all have something in common and it’s people surviving this curse.
That’s why I asked on another thread that people keep their political bias to themselves, now isn’t the time.
We’ve made mistakes, I’ve dropped a clanger and I’m mad with myself. Thankfully my direct superior handed me a copy of what we call the SRP’s and asked me to find the section for pandemics. Obviously there wasn’t one and the point was made.
My Gran is in the 70* group and she is seething about the response of some of her contempories. She’s always said her generation was the luckiest that ever lived and got everything given on a plate. As she says she was alive during the war but the sacrifice was made by her parents, all she did was go without sweets.
People need to wake up. Imo for every week this pandemic crippled the country it adds a lest 2 month to the countries recovery time. If we use China as an example we are looking at 24 weeks so that’s four years before we are totally back to where we were just a month ago, so people better get used to it.
Frightening and it nowhere near it’s peak yet.

You don’t get the last word Coronavirus does. If you think people like me and I’m an officer not an enlisted man are profiteering at your expense then I can only pity the sort of mentality that can think that way.
Sure there are spivs about but me and my fellow workers even those at the very top are family men and women doing a job, you are branding us as gangsters.
For a man/women as I have no idea what you are who is in there seventies you have a hell of a lot of growing up to do.
Finally none of my colleagues went to Eton, most of us came up through the ranks. None of us have a Jag or a villa in Spain, we just do a job and in the case of management we don’t get overtime for our current efforts and as far as I know nobody has asked for it.
Just think on before you brand people a profiteers, if you knew your history you’d know that the Nazis played the same nasty trick in the 1930’s and that didn’t go well did it!
While you’re at it you should think about apologising to the lad at Iceland whose right on the front line. He’s unlikely to die but it’s not impossible and if he does he will have been far more put out by the virus than you and your wife, ie dead before his life had really begun.
Sadly I suspect I’m wasting my time.

| Quote ="PopTart"Sorry but that is complete crap.
I also work for a big retailer and can tell you everyone is working their booty off.
Our VPs were in stores helping out and doing some hard shop floor work just to ease the pressure. All those at head office that can are doing the same.
I'm one of them and I can tell you I was knackered after one day.
We are employing people at a days notice to help the supply chain and give people a chance who have lost jobs. We have 10s of thousands of applications.
They are giving store staff extra weeks pay to say thank you for the efforts
They are giving millions to food bank charities to help out.
The corner shop owners can go any time they like.
The reason they are closing at night is to give stores colleagues a rest and focus all the resource on getting the shelves full again. No other reason.
They are helping vulnerable people by giving them time on their own, even though non vulnerable people are still trying to come in and take advantage. Same for NHS staff.
They are having to recruit extra security because idiots abuse those people trying to help in store because they can't buy 50 toilet rolls.
So please get your facts right.'"
A bit OTT PT but I'll take that on the chin.
I was quoting what a member of staff at Asda told me. That fact WAS correctly quoted.
It seems more likely you wanted to tell me how hard you and your colleagues are working to keep supplies available. I'm sure you are. Lots of people are working harder through this time, you're not unique but nonetheless I acknowledge it.

I did want to tell you as the person in Asda is giving you misinformation or doesn't understand.
I can tell you I am personally not working nearly as hard as those in stores or depots.
Probably was an OTT reply but I felt like I needed to say it.

BoB milk went up from £1.50 to £1.79 in a week in Asda, what ever the reason it’s a decent rise.

Providing the price comes down once this whole epidemic is over, I have no problem with it because otherwise once it is all over we’ll have no supermarkets to go to.
20% is drastic but nothing compared to other manufacturers/distributors.

Thought you'd be concentrating on buying pies anyway.....
May I suggest getting the milk from a proper milkman (mines Milky Pete) like I do... 60p a pint and it keeps him busy!
Thats if you can of course....
Better than the milk from any supermarket too......

That's a funny example because it's actually on at £1.75 and that's still the cheapest price in the big 4 supermarkets
Looks like an offer that just ended.
And Sainsbury in their defense have a higher price because they give profits to Sports Relief.

I’ve had some beauties sent on WhatsApp that are doing the rounds, absolutely side splitting, to me any way, but no doubt would upset many here. Definitely cheered me up for a bit.

| People getting tetchy on here, nowt new then. No rugby or sport but still people having a ding dong.
Its not profiteering as such but the supermarkets will have made some nice profits over the last 2 weeks, their sales are up 50% and, until the end of last week, did nothing to limit what shoppers bought. £1bn worth of sales.
And in my own experience of the last week the British supermarkets are horrendous and the German ones are almost stocked like normal.

Just what the heck are you on about fc.????? Talk about over reaction. Can I suggest you take a sedative and lay down for a while? Normally your posts have some degree of normality to them. God knows what your reaction would have been like if I'd said something really controversial.
All I said was that the big retailers tend to raise their prices in times of shortage. I've witnessed this many times in the past and I'm sure you have too.
I have never criticised you or those that did similar jobs in ensuring that goods get through to the shelves. You're doing a fantastic job as I discovered this morning at Barnsley Asda
As for the chap at Iceland my only criticism, if you care to read my post again, was that he could have notified the queue of elderly customers that they hadn't got any new stocks earlier than he did, thus avoiding everyone wasting their time. I never even spoke to him, yet you start ranting on about Nazism, gangsters, students at Eton, and the lad at Iceland could die.
Sadly I suspect I'm wasting my time.

| I'm also in a frontline business and have been working round the clock, along with my colleagues, to try to get through this; I have to get safe staffing levels into 72 specialist care homes all over the country - whilst supporting the same staff to self-isolate and stay safe and healthy, and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it's a total f**ing nightmare - not helped by the selfish and moronic behaviour of people who, for example, empty supermarket shelves - so my guys go to get food for the 6-8 vulnerable people they support, and are unable to do so.
I'm on a video conference later today, to work out what we can do to support our people - since the Government are steadfastly ignoring the scandal of SSP being far too low for self-isolating people to even pay their rent, and the 80% salary for job protection is of no help to business who aren't laying off; so we're trying to find a million quid, to do it ourselves.
Whatever you're doing and however this is affecting you - if you know someone who works in supply chain, food, education, the NHS or social care - take 5 mins to ask them if they're ok; chances are they're not, and will welcome knowing that you care.

| ![CLAP eusa_clap.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//eusa_clap.gif) ….respect Bren for all the hard work that you, FMC, PT and anyone else on here is currently doing in keeping the country going.
I like to think that I occasionally got to do my bit as a police officer for 30 years, but nothing came close to the situation that we currently find ourselves in, so now, when I am not working part-time, I am just looking out for a few elderly neighbours in their hour of need and would encourage everyone else to do the same if they can.
We live very close to the Asda at Durkar and if anyone is struggling to get anything after the early morning rush, they seem to be replenishing the shelves straight away, so come mid-morning most of the shelves have been re-stocked. There are still issues with toilet roll and some cleaning products but most other stuff is readily available including milk, bread, meat etc etc.
If anyone on here is unable to get out for whatever reason and needs something collecting in the next couple of days then feel free to PM me and I am more than happy to collect some provisions for you and deliver it locally free of charge as I am not working again until Thursday.
As I said on another thread - respect, tolerance and understanding HAVE to come to the fore in these un-precedented times, so let's all be grateful to these individuals who are doing their utmost for us all in our hour of need...if they didn't where would we be ???
