| May i apologize. For any upset caused here.
brayton started this thread after asking myself a few years ago and i think its the best on rlfans as it welcomes fans and parents players etc from all club.
some get carried away and once someone gets a bee in their bonnet its hard to pack it in .im 1.
if you know me as a man and parent i want the best for kids all the kids. Im the worse person i know. However for not being able to leave something and if i get called wrongly then i regrettably get drawn in.
it doesn't really help the thread imho when another thread then forks off about how we don't post anymore. I gave in nodding so i could freely post on this thread , my idea and a resignation not accepted straight away contrary to storytelling.
i really am sorry for arguments or biting back but if you look back please. At my posts my main. Issue. Is getting drawn in
im not alone.

| Been on the fields today where kettlethorpe used to play. Its a worrisome site.
Hard surface, glass like toppings and of course where the field has dug up it ad now hardened into hazardous obstacles.
Never been a fan of the juniors playing in the summer , i have many political reasons but they are far outweighed by by H&S.
Clubs can't possibly keep the playing areas some a drive away from the club house up to the requirements needed.
watching the lads tackle in the 11s can at times be brutal and the 13s is just part n parcel. I shudder to think what the 17s go through.
i also firmly believe that the amount of breaks being taken in the league program is way more than the old winter 3 month break.
I hope the YJL admit a mistake and go back to winter as i believe truly the vast majority of clubs would vote , WINTER.

| I have some sympathy Mutley but I wouldn't be voting for a return to winter not unless there were sufficient training grounds with adequate lighting and playing surfaces that you didn't need wellies and goggles to train on.
I agree with you about the number of breaks in the season and the integrity of the league competitions being poor because of absentees from teams for one game and then being available for the next. There's also a concern over the hardness of the pitches which at the moment are like concrete dust bowls.
However I can't get past the superior training and development that better weather and light nights affords us. There's simply no comparison between the quality of what can be done when compared with struggling on dark winter nights in freezing cold and wet weather.
Ateotd it's about development and not results and while I accept that development also takes place from playing regularly its at training where the largest percentage of development takes place and training in the summer massively outweighs training in winter.

| Must say i cannot find an argument with the training which as been far superior to winter.
I just fear that some poor lad is going to lose the ability to play due to a bad injury.
fingers crossed for everyone

| We're hosting Stanningley on Sunday morning; we haven't played them since losing narrowly in last year's Continuation Cup final, and since then they've been going great guns at the top of the 2nd Div. Should be a cracker!
10:30 ko if you're in the Ossett vicinity!

| Panthers 13s were well beaten 42-12 at siddal, complete waste of time going into the details ill just say it was a game that left a very bitter taste with what the players had to contend with.
That said siddal were very good while the panthers were still on holiday.

Well if you weren't in the vicinity and didn't come to watch, then you missed an absolute cracker of a game!
If I could go back in time I'd charge people to watch what was on display this morning, Stanningley are a superbly drilled team who play a great brand of Rugby but they met their match and then some in the Spartans team.
Missing five regulars the Spartans ran out 30 - 20 winners with the visitors grabbing a late score to make it look a little closer than it was. Tough and uncompromising in the middle while fast, fluent and inventive out wide the Spartans were always in front and were good value for their win.
A prime example of how Junior Rugby League matches should be played while each set of supporters were appreciative of the skills and abilities of both sets of players.

| Raiders Under 7's went to West Bowling yesterday and played another good all round side who had a few good players but one outstanding one who was too quick for us to handle. We weren't quite on the ball defensively like the previous Thursdays friendly when we tackled extremely toughly against Shaw Cross and West Bowling took full advantage.
The younger/smaller lads got more game time yesterday and played really well so that was very pleasing to see.
We are still struggling with the offload rule though, rightly or wrongly we made the decision not let the lads throw offloads at the moment but other teams seem to encourage it - and given the nature of the rule they basically have a "free play" as its completely risk free offloading this year. We concede at least 2 or 3 of tries per game from offloads, some of them good and some of them not so good by the other team - but the success rate for offloads I would estimate at about 1 in 5 or 6 maybe, with the attacking team just getting the ball back. Throw the ball anywhere and if it goes to your player (even after bobbling about) then you score 6 or 7 times out of 10 because all the defenders naturally make a bee line for the tackle at this age.....
Can anybody confirm that the rule about 6 tackles is only for the under 7's (year 2), as it says in rule 7b:
"at t he youngest participation age, each team must complete a full set of six including errors....."
So are we correct to assume that knock on's and running into touch are taken into account in the under 8's onwards? Or that when they get to the next age band "mod" it changes?
thanks

And that sir is why you should always have an appointed ref.
Don't shoot me , I know eastmoor always do and I've seen moor 9s play a lot this year and they not a bad set of players at all.
Don't know if it was at lockers or moor and maybe the ref didn't show. But the days of billy joes grandad reffin should be over BUT commin on here and bemoaning a 4-2 defeat is surely something you can do in private mate. The case lock lane kids are onle 8 and 9 they won and as they say that's what the pointy express will say anyway.

The young referees much to the dismay of their mentors have had their hands tied this year , making them look toataly incompetent.
Players can run into touch, which is a made . I remember the stress trying to keep kids away from the line.
Knock one allowed , go back 10 metres! No scooting at all until the last.
But worse of all no penalties!
So what your seeing is week in week out head highs , shirt collars grabbed, shirt swings , tripping I could go on.
I watch a lot of clubs 7,8,9 s and all parents rightly start getting upset but then the coaching staff do as well on both teams.
Here's a starter for twenty if you all know by know that young lad or lass in the middle catnt stop your no 6 who's getting orders of "rip his head off" from the side line . then who should do something about it?

| Sorry to hear things went pear shaped brayton hope your back to winning ways soon.
Mixed day at the weekend.
Shane the Shark made his début as the Shaw Cross 11s mascot
And the lads facing a much tougher test of unbeaten LOCK LANE .
these Shaw cross boys however remind me of something I'm keeping close to my chest.
final score 34-6 to Shaw cross
It looked like after a golden display nothing yet again was getting past the sharks but a spectacular try from a kick and catch meant that for the first time in 4 matches at home the sharks line was broken.
Meanwhile my other interest in YJL
meant it was a strange day in our house . Crigg 13s v Shaw cross.
Now I constantly say dissmiss Cross at your peril and although crigg may seem to of won easy the story I'm getting uh s that if not for 1or3 lads the streak would be gone and deservedly so as Shaw was the better side rugby wise.
How long We Crigg can keep up this run is anyone's guess but there's a final in just 3 weeks against east Leeds crigg will get beat if they don't improve.
Maybe the only way now to improve is to lose , its way over 2 years that's just not healthy.
Now I'm gonna get a right knacking lol

| Shaw cross weren't the better "Rugby" side, however they did at times play some good rugby with some very good running off the ball but 2 tries came off basic errors by Crigg.
Defensively Shaw Cross were a million miles away from crigg and with only 2 or 3 players actually turning up they still managed to score 7 tries.
Crigg always seem to be able to lift their game when it's really needed and they have 5 or 6 players capable of changing a game against any opposition, East Leeds will be the ones that will need to lift their game IMO as the last 4 times Crigg have played them they have scored over 130 points with East Leeds only managing to a total of 20,
Hopefully the final will be a closer affair ![Thumbs up icon_thumb.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_thumb.gif)

Didn't go to the last East Leeds game but I was surprised buy the final score.
Some teams do moan on I think about having small squads I think last week the Shaw cross jinx was close by and this is like the old heworth one in this age group whereby having no sub's to worry about benefits the team.

Shaw Cross came with 15 players, Crigg only had 16 on Saturday, missing 5 players, 4 of which would normally be in the starting line up ![Thumbs up icon_thumb.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_thumb.gif)

| Panthers 13s made the short journey to lock lane looking to put a poor show behind them.
In a typical derby their was plenty of guts and determination on show has the game finished with a fair 22-22 scoreline, both sides will feel they could have won the game and I'm not sure a point suits either side.

| Rules confirmed by Yorkshire JARL on Twitter, basically all errors result in a handover from under 8's and above - but obviously discretion is to be used by coaches/referees to ensure the kids enjoy the experience.
When they say 'at the youngest age group' it means under 7's rather than under 7's to 9's (Primary RL).
