if we can keep our two academy sides from being tempt away to other clubs it will put two fingers up to the RFL about clubs being too close to each other, I'm taking more pride with the club that they are putting the foundations of a bright future here

i know the club are hoping for a crowd of 2500 for the upcoming academy game with 1000 there against bulls on thurs - the local table toppin game will attract some good numbers fingers crossed. even though its a thursday night i'm sure you guys will fetch a 100 or so

Problem is most teams need a good stand off so Cooke, Orr or even Ratchford would be picked up elsewhere before we get them.

I think the Aussie option is more likely as it is possible to get an unknown who is as good as these guys.....sad to say but it's true.

Alternatively we could promote from within.

I'm all for that, and would generally prefer promoting from within instead of going down under, but if we want to have a dominant presence for next season, at hooker or half back, we aren't going to find them in in the academy (just yet).

If we signed say a Trent Barrett, we would improve across the board instantly. If get a good young lad, we might do ok, but someone else will probably end up being the dominant presence......and will probably come from down under...so it's a difficult cycle to break.

Signing Danny Orr, or Paul Cooke etc would solve the problem and I'd vote for that route first, but all I'm saying is that other clubs want them too and I'm doubting would be top of the list.

I'd love to see 6 Orr, 7 Brough 9 Newton (love is a strong word for this one) 13 Wild in Wakefield shirts but kind of unlikely

Well if the rumours are true and we lose Brough, Drew and Martin then we really will need a quality half, otherwise we are going to be lacking any kind of creativity at all. (Latu excepted but, a bit erratic to be relied on 100%.

The Leeds academy lad was a rumour a while ago. For him to be offered a new contract by Leeds in the first place signifies they see some value in him and if he has rejected it then it can only be on the grounds that he wants first team football. A good combination.

If he turns out a tenth as good as his idol then I would be happy with his capture.

just because a player has played in a certain position it doesn't stop them playing else where, look at gaz ellis form centre to loose to second row, sign of a flexible player

Of course that is true but you would also, if that were the case, describe Ellis as a centre/second row.

You would not play Andy Gregory at Stand off as he is a scrum half only but you would play Edwards at either as he was a different type of player who could change positions effectively.

The page says he's a scrum half only and to be honest, not having seen him play, that is the only evidence I have.

I'd want to see him play at stand off before signing him to play there. I'll accept JKs word if he says he's ok to switch!??!

he can play six or seven, is actually filling in at nine at the minute as all reserve hookers are crocked. think reserves play at wakey on saturday.

I was just slightly suprised that it has been suggested he is a stand off replacement, and can also operate at hooker or loose forward. Like has been suggested elsewhere, 69kg was just a suprising weight! I know size isnt everything in rugby league, but for a guy the same height as me, 69kg seems bit lightweight, im now 93kg, and I have no doubt I will get smashed around at s/o!
