| This is certainly fabulous news and for me I currently have a feeling of relief, the case seemed so strong that it just felt like a matter of time, albeit delayed matter of time. It certainly was worth the effort getting all my Hull FC and Hull KR colleagues to sign those petitions in favour of the stadium
Immense thanks to all those involved throughout the process, the sung and the unsung heroes. Also, good to note that the club have given recognition to the pre-Glover era for which the process started. Whilst feelings on Ted are mixed here, let's remember his legacy will also include being involved at the start of Newmarket.
Great efforts by SWAG, TRB and my favourite Rhino Well done folks and all at the club.
I've already been out celebrating in Singapore, does it matter that the beer was called Tiger? Also slightly amusing that I am with my younger, slightly naive colleague who used to be a trainee footballer at a professional football club. He tried to have (an immature go) at trying to justify to our Singaporean colleagues and hosts why football is far superior to rugby. I'm far more mature than that and just smiled. Some people will never have a balanced view.
It is a shame there are more deadlines to watch now, although hopefully mere formalities. There maybe delays in the build process, but delays and hiccups are something we are very used to here at Wakefield Trinity. I relish the day I first walk to my seat at Newmarket and watch our team become the force they were prior to my first visits to Belle Vue. It will be with a heavy heart and very fond memories that I say goodbye to our home of over 100 hundred years. Thanks for the memories.
Once the hangovers clear I think we should rally round and support the cause for the genuine and fair Cas fans. We all know too well the anguish and frustration for the highly controversial (and flawed) franchise process which binds us today. We as true followers of the game know how important the roots of the game are; the value of rivalries and true derbies. I feel it is highly fitting for Newmarket's opening match to be against some of our nearest and dearest.
Onwards and upwards. This is a great day for Wakefield, the District, sport in general and for rugby league.
NEWMARKET.

| Had a quick look through the thread but can't see any congratulations from Mrs Fender. You would think with her being such an upstanding pillar of the community she would have the good grace to conceed defeat and wish us all the very best!!!!

| Wildshot - quite right mate when its settled down we should lend our backing to the Cas fans who like us have a love for a great game. What we need now is both stadiums up and running so we can give a resounding salute to red hall.

| Quote The level of support in the 15000 signature petition from SWAG demonstrates the importance of the Club. It is a significant proportion of the population of the City of Wakefield. That is clearly an indicator of the crucial significance of the club to the community.'"

| Quote The only suggestion made is that WTW could share the proposed CT stadium at Glasshoughton. Various factors prove that to be impossible:
It is Castleford Tigers' stadium not a Community Stadium with wider benfits.
It is not in the City of Wakefield - the unchallenged evidence of of the Club and the supporters is that the Club could not operate from a stadium in another town, twice as far away from the centre of Wakefield as the Newmarket site. The fans would not travel there as shown in the example of St Helens playing on a recognised temporary basis in Widnes. It is a different rugby league heartland. There, even with a guaranteed future in a new home town stadium, after one year, attendance dropped by over 3,000 in a location far closer to St Helens than Castleford is to Wakefield.
Whilst the Glasshoughton site may have planning permission there is no money to build it, nor any proposed enabling development.* It is not viable or deliverable and no one suggests that it is, not even Castleford Tigers themselves who like Wakefield have a revocable grade C licence. It is well known that Castleford Tigers wish to pursue a retail scheme at the Wheldon Road site, but that is out of centre and at best problematic. Even so as Mr Francis noted that site alone could not generate significant revenue to fund a stadium let alone the lengthy new road link. Where would the rest come from even if a retail scheme came forward? The evidence is that it is unlikely, as the Tigers’ own announcement makes clear. The site would also increase travel distances for Wakefield fans.
'"
*My emphasis.
It's a fascinating read!

That is an absolutely stunning statement and seems to blow holes in the possibility of there ever being a stadium development at GH.

A ground share at GH was NEVER on the cards then.
Ted's "psycho" moment at HT was bang to rights then! Good old Ted, never doubted you for a second!
