Agreed.
He’s a master of neither the strike or organising game but he’s suited better to an organiser but in my opinion he’s stuck in the middle between both styles and not overly great at either, or maybe not consistent enough at either.
He’s not a starting half for us next year if we have ambitions of a top 8 finish for me.

I agree though I think he edges towards more of a running half.
That said I think he will be here for 2025 and probably the starting half until a long term solution at 6 can be found.

We haven't just signed Wally Lewis but we have just signed someone with proven skills and lots of potential.
[uLet's see what he can do under Powell.[/u'"
That’s the key IMO
Powell will look to play Russell in a different way to how Watson plays him, I’m pretty sure he’ll get regular game time too instead of being in one week and out the next.
Again just my opinion but Lino isn’t a SL quality Half and we should be looking to move him on if possible.
I’d happily settle for Mitch Moses as Russell’s Half back partner

They are trying to build a team over the next 4 years.
Tom and McMeekan are the same.
Same as coaching staff.

We struggled last year and for many years before with lack of balance in the halves, we don’t have balance this year either as Gale is also an organiser but we are levels above our opposition this year so we can get away with it.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Lino leave, pending agreement due to his contract, and someone come in with more of a running threat.'"
Lino is an organising half?! I've heard it all now.
Tbf though, I have heard Lino has already signed with Cas for next year...

That's highly unlikely as he has a contract with us till 2026.

I know he is. But regardless, that's what I've heard. Belive it or not, sometimes clubs don't want a player and/or players don't want to be at a club. Have you never heard of a player that's under contract signing for another club?

Well it can only happen if we allow it. It isn't up to Lino.
But all I said was it's unlikely. Maybe your contact you heard it from is right. I just doubt it as this is the only evidence I have.

| Personally think you have a good signing in Russell - a lot of Giants fans not impressed with him but I believe he has been hindered by having to play a very basic game to suit Watson process driven dreary rubbish! He has a good step is very tough and a good goal kicker and I think you will see a much better version under Powell than we have.
Good luck next year, I think you will prob be vying with HKR to be the top Yorkshire club. Our lot will once more be bottom end if Watson is still there but doubt I will be watching them - club is a bit of a joke and needs a good shake up throughout.

| Did anyone watch the Wire v Shudds game last night and have any feedback regarding Russel's input into Shudd's big zero?
I chose to watch Saints in the hope of seeing Cas get a shellacking only to sit through what must have been one of the most error strewn Saints performances since the club was founded. And they could have still won it!

In his defence he was not in the team.

Yes with no Russel at Shudds, watched this game myself. I though Corey had a great game especially in defence

Game time, simple as that!
If Powell concludes that he needs a better Half Back then Lino may be sidelined for the season. At his age he hasn’t got too many seasons left so he might not want to spend one sitting in the stand and opt to take a deal to leave.

| Powell Gives Lino special praise in his post match interviews on a regular basis ,would that be the case if he wanted to give the guy the flick .Whilst Lino might not be to everyone’s taste there are certainly other areas in our team that want strengthening first . Of our players that we have contracted id say only Johnstone and McMeeken are world class players and you wouldn’t find anyone better in their respective positions in super league ,the rest of our team not so .let’s concentrate on strengthening our centres ,or loose forward and quite possibly the hooking position ,non of which fill me with confidence going into super league.

| Like Ketty says Powell seems to rate Lino very highly with him saying Russell is an organising half I guess they will be our starting halves. If the rumours from Mills are correct we have 5 players to come in. Stourton, Hall and one rumour was Matty Russell. So two more, on try time podcast they mentioned Micky Mac to replace Hood for one year and I think that has its merits. Another rumour is we will keep a quota spot and a decent chunk off cap money in case some big name becomes available.
So not sure what positions the other 2 signings will be even a top quality winger of hooker might be on the cards. If Cas go down Westerman for one year might be good.
