| We have trouble with edge defence on both sides of the field no matter who plays there and have had that trouble for at least 4 years.
BJB seems to have no confidence in his inside defenders and for good reason because they don’t do their jobs well and don’t work as a unit.
On the other side of the field how many times have we seen TJ left in no mans land because his inside defenders have failed to map outwards from the play the ball.
It’s been a frustration of mine for season after season, it’s not the fault of an individual player but rather the team as a defensive unit.
The fact that we haven’t or can’t fix it suggests that the coaching staff don’t understand how to coach defence or are incapable of passing on their knowledge.

Or, cuts inside to help his centre who, to be honest, needs no help in many cases (not always granted) . This has been his tactic for a few seasons now, never more evident than in the Salford game. Is this coached ? I hope not.'"

But at times BJB seems to be unable to close up even the narrowist of overlaps.

| But, having criticised BJB, and others on the wing (like I and others have) for not closing the overlap, where is the full back in these situations? Traditionally, he was the last line of defense. In today's game the role of full back seems to be focused more on attacking qualities and tactics rather than the defensive role.

| Quote ="Fishermanscap"Basically we’ve been found out in the forwards, we are soft especially when Dave isn’t playing. Only King has any go forward and he’s not a tackle buster though he does drag the game forward.
Arona - great but crocked
England - totally gone
Huby - who knows
PP - I really don’t know what’s gone on here
Hirst - only ever a filler, played more games than he’s up to imho
[uKirmond - even more gone than England[/u
Batchelor - has a poor season due mainly to injury
Ashurst - where is he?
Koppy - runs hot and cold
Crowther - dome what’s been asked of him
Anakin - what’s the point, I’m not a huge fan but he has to be a better option than Kirmond!!!!
Tangles - you have to feel sorry for him.
So on currentish form the only two forwards we have up for the fight are King, Fifita and Crowther. Not much to work with for any coach.
Not all Chester choices have been smart imo but you have to feel for the bloke.'"
With the benefit of hindsight, I think Kirmond should have gone to Bulls when Kear went there. "Leader of men" I think Kear has described him as - he knew that's what the Bulls (relatively) young squad needed.
I know Kear tried to get him - bit like Webster, P/T training, develop your off-field interests, easier on the body when your career has taken such a physical toll, but Wakefield wanted him and that was his decision. I agree, he looks physically shot now.

People really do have a short memory. Kirmond was always going to stay this year whether he was up to it or not, It was mentioned at the start of the season he would be a bit part player this season and he is on a reduced deal to reflect that (Unfortunately the number of injuries we have had has led to him having to play a lot more this year).
It is his testimonial season and IMO he deserved a deal out of principal for all those years he stuck by us when he could of had his pick of clubs on a lot more money - As I say, people really do have a short memory and seem to forget that.
I usually don`t agree with giving a player a deal based on circumstances like this, but I think in this situation he has earned it over the years, he stuck by the club in its darkest day and has always been that player that gives his all and that is clear to see, now the shoe is on the other foot some fans want to throw him out like an old toy.

I wouldn't disagree with that but why persist in playing Kirmond when Anakin is available. Not as good a player imo but as far as I know fully fit. Seems odd to me as Kirmond seems to get injured within minutes so he needs to be the absolute last option to me and that hasn't happened.
He ay be a great leader but if he can't stay on the pitch its a worthless gift. I feel for the guy but when its over its over.

Have to agree re Anakin over Kirmo. It does seem that he's pushed his body as far as he can but there has to be a line.
One think about it, Kirmo has been a great servant to the club and he can walk away with his head held high.

I don’t think we are because the same issues arise regardless of the players we sign. Line speed non-existent, fitness/conditioning questionable getting beat on the edges with regularit, player stood stil when taking the ball etc.

I can’t imagine he’s properly fit given how he limped off at Magic on crutches. That didn’t look like a miss a couple of games and you’re fine injury.
Someone mentioned it in another thread on here but you’ve gone a while with injuries and you think it’ll be fine when they come back but the problem is the guys who have filled in for many games now are shattered from holding the fort and those returning are more than likely coming back a few weeks early given your form. Same happened to Leeds last season, between roughly rounds 4-14 we were depleted in the forwards but still managed a few wins early on before it took a toll and brought guys back early to try help but we went on a 8 match losing run that saw McDermott gone.

| I have a problem binning players and under normal circumstances you can get away with one or two having an off day. Unfortunately the team just are not playing to any sort of standard. So the responsibility must be with the backroom team. Injuries and strange positional decisions have not helped but the buck must stop somewhere bearing in mind we have most of the squad all signed up for the next couple of seasons Its all about not finishing bottom for the vast majority of clubs and I feel the games in free fall as a result. Some may sneek a top 5 position but in all honesty two teams have stood out for most of the season. Its a problem that needs sorting asap its loosing any credibility it had.

| Walked out of game ten minutes left , pretty gutted my wife came to her second game in ten years - said could we come back to visit Carcassonne preferably when there wasn’t a game to ruin the weekend.
Now I ve calmed down a bit think some of the talk is pretty harsh - conditions were crazy hot - whilst it’s same for both teams catalan live and train in it full time .
We were poor but realistically we lacked a complete back row , 2 front rows in England and huby that would have played , our left centres had one game in the last two months , brough clearly isn’t 100 percent and to all intents we were playing with 16 men . Catalan had pretty much a first choice team out with several key players been rested - it was always going to end badly .
Tbh season is finished now only excitement may be playing London to stay up -

| But that's the wakefield way. Not sure we have anything to offer for the rest of the season and unfortunately that will be reflected in attendances.
Any other club would be looking at taking action ensuring that that sort of display does not happen again but at Wakey we may get a slight improvement but nothing will change . Wakefield seems to be a comfort blanket for some of the squad and without changes it aint going to change. The club have managed to put the squad together for the next couple of seasons but with the present squad playing like they are a couple of additions will not make that much difference.

I was pretty unhappy but genuinely don’t think the whole team has a bad attitude and want sacking !
Fafita gave it a good go and stayed on when clearly he was injured - brough hasn’t been right since he broke his thumb and again carrying an injury, gwaze is a kid ,
Hampshire thought tried and was pick of backs ,
But if as Chester says brough and fafita don’t make it Friday , can’t see Reynolds and England improving us much
Lose that and we’d better start focusing on London game

For years now I have been critical of our edge defence. For me it seemed to start with Ben Cockayne when he started cutting-in to try and make a 2 man tackle on the opposition centre, which invariably left a walk-in try for his opposite winger and for whatever reason this has continued at Trinity ever since. You don't see this happening in the NRL week-on-week so why do we persist in doing it over here ???
It clearly is a coaching thing, otherwise we wouldn't do it ??
Every single week we get out-flanked and concede tries, so it clearly doesn't work, so why not leave the wingers out on the wing to cover the opposition winger (who, 9 times out of 10 gets the ball and scores anyway) and let the sliding defence cover the players inside ???
It sounds so simple, I know, but surely it has to be worth a try and not give walk-in tries away every week ???

| I’m not sure about the idea that players aren’t committed, lack passion, can’t be d. In my (very limited) playing experience, going in to a game with anything less than 100% commitment is a sure fire way to get injured. I like Chester very much and he’s not responsible for SL players being unable to pass or hold on to the ball. But he is responsible for the team’s basic lack of SL level skills - movement of the ball is slow, passes are transmitted, forwards take the ball standing still, tackling is abysmal, control of the ruck is poor, game management is poor, the defensive line is compressed and very rarely moves up at the ptb to cut down time and space, there’s no obvious game plan and equally nobody with any creative nous. He needs to address these issues and then we can see which players are taking the pi55. At the moment it’s hard for players to shine when the whole team coordination is a shambles. It’s down to CC.
