Nah, Briggs was in the second row, with Vines, and Rocky at LF. Budgie Firth was blind side prop.

The problem being if he did for us what he does at catalan he would be permanently suspended

They were big hard men but I'll bet some of our backs are heavier than they were at the time. Modern training and diet.

| Players of a different era, not saying they weren't "hard" i.e. dirty, but they would have long bans in the modern era with cameras recording late shots and would have to adapt their style. I remember Chris Burton being described as having an awkward tackling style!

Pops theres an old pic that pops up regularly on wakey history pages and it clearly shows Briggs about to pack down in the front row. It may have been a one off but none of them would have fitted in with the modern game as the shirts don't have collars for them to turn up to make them look hard. ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

I'm sure there must have been a time when he had to fill in but predominantly he was a second row.
He played at Wembley in second row and when he played for Yorkshire and England too.
Don Vines did switch between positions and anyone who met Briggsy in his pub at the top of Stanley Hill will know he was a big bloke but he was a runner in his day and a fit bloke.

| Brian Briggs played in the second row in his time at St Helens, as far as I remember he played in the second row for Yorkshire and GB while at saints and not at Wakefield, he used to wear the number 10 shirt at Wakey which was the blind side prop with Jack Wilkinson at tother side at open side prop with Geoff Oakes and then Jan Kosonovic sandwiched in between, next time the ground is open to spectators ask Nelly Fox or Ian Brooke, I'm sure they'll be able to shed some light on the matter, when Briggsy first signed for the club he lived on Irwin Crescent Eastmoor with his parents.

| Brian Briggs played second row at Wakefield number 11 if you watch the video of the 62cup final you can plainly see Brian in the 11 Jersey.

Wayne - Briggs was definitely second row! He had a reputation for his tackling.
The best pack of that era I remember was Wilkinson, Kosanovic (Milan not Jan - that was Prinsloo!) Firth, Vines, Briggs and Turner..
Kosanovic was a great hooker and he had Geoff Oakes as back up.

Cheers for that, not sure where the Jan come from as I knew it was Milan who came from Northern, you can't all be wrong but I genuinely thought he wore the No10 shirt, having said that for 45 year I thought we had bought Joe Bonner from Workington.

Great player 1315, as you know, he did a full stint at Lofthouse pit as part of the rescue team in the disaster of 1973 , and then turned out for Trinity that night.

| Egg Banjo. Which better coach is there that would be willing to jump in, particularly at this part of the season.
Maybe the training regime needs looking at with the amount of injuries we have had this year.

To be fair though at that point in the game, counting the two lost mid game we were without 10 backs...who was there to chase him down? Don’t tell me, being without 8 backs in your squad and losing two in the game doesn’t make a difference?
Thought it was our last tackle kicking that was the major issue today...thought we fronted up well in a lot of areas...
I’ll ask this again too...a question that seems to get avoided by the Chester out brigade...who replaces him?
