Bigger budget, bigger crowds, SL for the last 14 years, better squad to work with?
Don't get me wrong I like Fev, but we just have more clout.

Not according to Daryll, he sees Rovers as a club with massive potential. Off field infrastructure bang on and a 'new' SL compliant ground imminent.
From an outsider's perspective I think John Kear has worked miracles at Belle Vue and you should stick with him through the present tough times. Once you are granted your licence, which is a certainty in my opinion, he will have the resources to build and guide your team to much better things. He's a top coach.

Maybe he's right, I just think that Fev will struggle to increase their crowds in the long term simply because they are sandwiched between Wakey and Cas, I mean how many people even live in Featherstone?
Hopefully they prove me wrong, but can't see it sadly.

Good. Then I wouldn't want him. We need realists, not dreamers. As things currently stand, there will be no Fev in SL. Why have Fev when you can have Cas? Why have Cas when you can have Wakey? Why have Wakey when you can have Leeds and London? etc..

| The best hope for Fev is to merge with us when we go to NM; Cas will be vying for our attentions by then mind you, so they'll need to look lively.

| Financially the club is back on its feet but that said the playing side is in a right mess !!! Firstly we have contract issues ... The players dont know which league where gonna be playing in yet and are possibly trying to secure there own futures else where - Kear included - hes out of contract and must be looking past the end of the season - the pressure is telling and showing from both the players and coaching staff ... An other issues we have is that our senior players are not leading by example which is not bringing the young players forward ... I think we have hit the wall too - we have had so many bad performances lately and looking at the fixtures will probably win 1 more game ...
So is it time for Kear to go ?? Very tough call ... We need a change but we prorbably have to see the season out ...

There's plenty of room for a 3rd team, Don't get fooled into thinking otherwise (note : I didn't say replace Wakefield/Cas).
The population is just over 14,000... but Featherstones fan base is based mainly in outlying towns such as Pontefract, Knottingley, Sharlston and many of the villages in the area (Beal for one)... so the home town population needs convincing to come down.
Featherstone also have a large dormant fan base, who have stopped coming since to scrapping of P+R on a traditional basis in 1996... we can still take 4/4.5k to Grand Finals, so winning those people over to come every week is another challenge.
Anyway... back to you... Kears 2 years past his sell-by date... Morrison isn't the answer either, nor is JD.

One win in how many? The Hudds game aside the level of performance has been pretty poor since the Cas cup match.
So if we win next week then everything is rosey again?
We need to challenge the coaching staff and team to do better. We shoudn't accept the rest of the season being ok as heavy defeats cos we have already won more games than anyone thought etc... We have shown we can compete but aren't at the moment - this needs to be addressed.

nobody has suggested that things are made rosey by the odd win. the truth is that we have a very limited squad, and a very young and inexperienced one. one where the older heads (with the probable exception of morrison) would not be wanted elsewhere. some of our talent was picked off whilst we were in admin and there was a time when even one win this season looked remote.
settle down and accept that the coaching team are far more skilled and experienced than their chargers.
i don't like some of the signings we have made, but then again mr kear cannot get deals of the century each and everytime he goes into the market. i think we lack somebody to advise and support him in this area, but in general i think we've over-performed this season. most will disagree, but that's how i see it.

You won't listen to anyone else, why should they listen to you?
IMO Kear took his finger off the boil last season, but who can blame him after the players he lost through no fault of his own who he was building a team around - now casually forgotten. He now has a team no one on here thought would get a win let alone 6 wins - casually forgotten. A team made up mainly of Academy players, cast offs and old men - casually forgotten. Trying to motivate a team that as yet doesn't know if it has a future - casually forgotten. Facing other teams who are clearly better - just read Hulls team sheet - have they got a scrum half who was playing for Batley last year - casually forgotten.
I could go on but I will spare you. Yes Kears selections do baffle me but then are there any players in this team who pick themselves - not many. Yes Kear is begining to believe in the legend of Kear which is a worry. However the saying no excuses is clearly wrong in this case, there are plenty of excuses.
According to many on here the last regime was the worst ever, yet others seems to think that this should have had no effect on the team - come on!
If we hit 10 points this season I will be delighted and so should you it's one hell of an achievement and based on that Kear should IMO get another contract and be given the resources he needs. Why people on here think that the likes of Powell, Harrison or Millard would do better need IMO to give their heads a shake - talk about the grass is greener.
Challenge your coaching team to do better when you give them the players they need not before. That's like challenging Lewis hamilton to win F1 in a Lada.
That's what I think.

| I really can't be bothered argueing about this again. We seem to have the same Posts from the same anti-Kear briggade all over again.
For the record, I like Kear. I want him to stay. I think the team is doing well given the circumstances. The kids are gaining great experience but needing some rests now.
I'll support them through this time and onwards.
No more to say

Huddersfield were appalling that day and the weather was atrocious too, real leveller. Their fast men couldn't get going. They finally gave it some air out wide with 5 minutes to go and we were all over the place. Another 10 minutes and Shudds would have chalked up 20+ points.
Hull weren't any thing special either, believe it or not with just 30 minutes to play all the Hull fans surrounding us were calling for Agar's head.

How the hell do you know, you were not even there, did you just decide to accept Giant Daz match report. Funny how Kear gets no credit for having the right tactics on that day but gets bagged when he doesn't. You really have not got a clue.

All very fair points - and all taken with a huge amount of gratitude to John.
But.... The problem, if that's what it is, is, IMO, that John is perfect at taking a rag-tag bunch, banding them together and getting them up for a fight. As I say, if he just landed today I would imagine us having a huge lift and winning 3 or 4 more games this season against much tougher opposition. However, on the skills side of things, I feel that we have failed to adapt; failed to move forward and failed to keep up with what the game has now become. Add these to the fact that, on occasion (and far too regularly for me), we do seem to have the strangest selections of players - to the point that it does appear as if someone is just making a point in doing it!
Can I just say that in all this, there has to be reasoning behind the choice of the successor. We have for too long seen the assistant step up at Wakefield becuase they were the easy choice. I don't want easy, I want quality - and none of the names you have mentioned would tick that box as head coach - unless we are in the Championship! I would however suggest that a JD or Morro would make a superb assistant at our club, just as Willie is doing at Wire right now.
IMO it's time to move forward in a new direction. It's time to concentrate on bringing our own produce through to the first team. It's time to stop this relentless effort to sign old men when we can't keep hold of the young ones. It's time to change the left/right basis of our attack. It's time to move away from the reliance on the scoot and the drive. It's time to see set plays, dummy runners and play from deep, and it's time to free the players such that they are not worried that trying to off-load and failing will result in a spell in the reserves - rather that adventourous play should be rewarded, encouraged and nurtured in order that we can be entertained and, that we can begin to play the kind of RL that ALL the other clubs in SL appear capable of playing and that, IMO, we CAN - if given the chance!
