Quote Rhinos are also understood to be keen on Wakefield Trinity Wildcats' 19-year-old prop Jay Pitts, but Hetherington played down the prospects of a move for the England Academy forward.
He said: "It's inevitable we'll continue to be linked with players, but we're not looking at too many changes.
Wildcats coach John Kear – whose team face Rhinos at Belle Vue tomorrow – said he is "not surprised" Leeds are being linked with Pitts.
"He's an outstanding back-row forward," said Kear. "He's come through Wakefield's scholarship and our junior production system and we're very proud of him.
"It doesn't surprise me the so-called bigger clubs are looking at him. It is quite a compliment to us at Wakefield."'"

| Quote ="vastman"Jay Pitts has not done enough for me to get too misty eyed. I accept the potential argument, I also accept he probably hasn't had chance to play his natural game. However Leeds are clearly offering what we can't and that is that.
Seems a bit strange that a club like Leeds feels the need to sign and pay for a relative unknown like Pitts. Makes you wonder if Leeds much vaunted youth system has not been quite as succesfull of late in producing those up and coming players and they have now reverted to the Leeds of old.
This I feel is good news for us as I can't recall the last player other than Ellis we sold to Leeds who really made it or didn't come back to us in the end.
Players we got (got back) from Leeds who were great for us, Conway, Mason, Spencer and Field to name a few.
The odds are in our favour
'"
you said that about Peter Fox
Pitts is an outstanding prospect who will go on to play international RL why do we bring e half way round the world like Winterstein, Peterson and Latu and let players like Pitts go for peanuts plus a 2nd rate winger come centre who would be at Leeds this season if he was any good

Has he only played three games? Although not a bad player, I don’t think he is worth pursuing over a longer term.

Because they are at first team level now (arguably I realise) and Pitts best days are in front of him. It takes a brave management team to just go with a really young team that will get beaten up just because they will be better in a couple of years.
That's why there are lots of short term overseas contracts here. The need for immediate success is greater than the passion for developing the youth.
Saying that, in time hopefully the franchise system will stop that, but I'm doubting it will be that big a step change.

IMO He's done nothing wrong. The more back to back appearances he gets, the more he will improve. He only played a few first grade games in the NRL so to expect him to set Superleague on fire would be unrealistic!
People seem to have a clouded judgement of him due to his nationality. If he was English people would think better of him. He's got good tackling technique, offload, size and I'd like to see Kear play him as a creative, wide running SR in everygame rather than just an interchange forward who takes the ball straight up the middle.

You know something I wish the world were as simple as you seem to think it is.
It is far more complex than the moaning brigade like to make out but hay you carry spouting your tired cliches if you wish.
Truth is we have offered Jay as much as we can and more than Leeds if what I'm told is correct. But he is keen to move on, what can we realistically do (there is no answer to that question in the real world other than kidnap him).
I realise you have this notion that we should lose the likes of Latu and Winterstien despite the fact that both are better players than Pitts currently is. I'm assuming you believe we should use the cash saved to pay Pitts even more. Not a brilliant theory. We ruin our squad system, our pay rates etc just to ensure we keep a player who may or may not make it whilst at the same time making our squad even more paper this. Truly ridiculous terrace logic IMHO and so typical of Wakefield fans of a certain variety who live in the past and never miss a chance to air a grudge. If Latu were not here who would you have left to blame, damn those immigrants taking our jobs.
Pitts wants out, Wakey rate him and have pulled out all the stops to keep him - but it seems he isn't interested - end of story.
Instead why not be thankful for the ones we have managed to keep, or the ones we have successfully pinched. For every Pitts there is an Atkins - it works both ways - but don't let that get in the way of self pity will you.
So let's all add Pitts to the list of Martyrs playing for other teams, because that's our thing

That's just about spot on - with one minor issue - and that is that, IMO, Jay had signed up with Leeds months ago, hence he has just 'gone through the motions' with us, knowing that his future is assured elsewhere anyway. This may also explain why his performances have not merited more first team action.
On the other hand, Frank seems really keen for first team football with us and has taken all the poop we have thrown at him and, in his limited opportunities, has done pretty well - only my opinion of course.
The world moves on, and so will we. We are frustrated when we lose a Peter Fox or a Gareth Ellis, but we're still here, we've got some very good players at the club, we're in the mix for the play-offs and, again imo, we will have what appears to be a stronger side in SL next year than this. So, whilst we take the odd knock, we our momentum is still very much forward!

I'm surprised he is leaving as he is a very good prospect.

Trinity received 100K for Ellis, a GB international and club captain, so £20K plus a young prospect doesn’t seem too bad for a player yet to stake a claim as a first team regular.
