It was called the Queens I think. It then was the ASDA.

Correct - then Tesco bought Hillards and closed down lots of the smaller stores, including Wakefield.

I was one of the Tesco employees sent over to close Hillards down - it was a horrible experience.

Going away from Wakey slighlty but was Jack Fultons in Ossett a Hillards store at one time.

No, GT Smiths was knocked down and rebuilt as what is now the pub and bookies. Grandways/Hillards is the other side of the precinct next door to Barclays Bank.

I'm not 100% sure but this poster used to work at Fine Fare, so i reckon he may know.

Agree with that El Rey, the wife's Gran used to give us a Smith's Vanilla slice when we went round, they were
the dogs whatsits (figuratively speaking of course).

Yes they owned that store for quite a few years.

Tesco was still open into the 1980's.
Was a very dour depressing place to shop, a mantle that's now been taken on by ASDA at Sandal.
