I wonder if they have pledged an additional £2m now to NM? It would be a welcome boast to NM & mean that Sir Rodney & the Trust would have less grant funding to find but equally it is a shame if that turns out to be the case, as it clearly does signal the end of a new Cas stadium at GH.

If there was ever any hope left in any Castlefords fan regarding GH this has finally put the nail in the coffin. WR redevelopment is the long term way forward if any funds can be found

how will their be any funds when their all being channeled towards NM or behind closed doors their might be deciding on a ground share. it's been known for months what was happening so it was no shock,

Cas are still looking to redevelop WR. The development at the Nestle site is still earmarked to be somesort of enabling development, albeit for the existing stadium rather than the new one.

With respect to this news. I can only wonder where Trinity would be if the sham feasibility study was ever allowed to take place.

According to our friends the council should not be wasting money in this way.


Not long since they wanted some for GH and later still to upgrade WR, seems they are short of memory at best.

The WMDC can't give funds to a private venture that's not happening but they can to a community project which is happening. The Wakefield & District community Stadium sports facilities for all .

Do we know that the NM funding isn't affected?

It's written into the 106 & WMDC are partners in the stadium development, so I'd imagine they're still on board.

Bad news for cas but lets not fool ourselves. The Tory led governments spending cuts have year on year slashed local authority budgets and this will continue into the next parliament. Priorities change and unfortunately I guess that funding sporting clubs and stadiums community or not will become much lower priorities than protecting the most vulnerable etc. just look at Sheffield they are looking to knock down the don valley stadium. Like I said bad news for cas but I'm not optimistic that things will turn out much differently for us.

I'm not sure that this is news. Cas have basically given up on Glasshoughton so this is just a bit of tidying up admin by WMDC, and hardly front page news.

Looking into taking some of it, probably need to find some grants etc for that though.

If Jack Fulton looks at what fev are doing and is prepared to put his hand in his pocket again he may well have a route by which to upgrade Wheldon Rd and save Castleford.

I agree its a front page none story by the CPE.

Try explaining that to some on CasForum. This is apparently the culmination of a long term plan to lead them down the garden path, long enough for newmarket to navigate its hurdles and then for WMDC to pull the rug and force a ground share.

The persecution complex some of their fans have is unbelievable.

Only person who led them up the garden path was Tricky, it's not gonna happen now so rightly wmdc have drawn a line in the sand.

The Cas deal is off the table - for now - but can be reinstated if / when there is a viable proposition in place.

The money can be shifted around as seen fit. So if Cas decide to redevelop WR they would have to give up some ownership for community purposes or they won't get the money. That money then could be switched to another project, one that includes a true community stadium perhaps? But once the money has gone, its gone so they best be quick and get something sorted. Wakefields money is safe, the signed s106 agreement will ensure that it will be payed.

I'm a bit surprised that this has come to light now though, i was expecting it in a month or two. I think its a case of the council saying to Cas its now or never. Its time they put GH to bed once and for all and move onto plan B.
