Good to see George has new contract,this lad has the potential to be very,very good.

However,i dont see any value in retaining Henderson.
At 29 when next season commences,i would imagine there is little room for improvement.
He is neither good enough for the back row or good enough for the centres.

I appreciate the guy will probably be cover and not cost that much,but surely there must be other options out there as cover.If the only reason we retain this guy is because hes cheap,it seems pointless,he is an example of mediocrity that we should be moving away from.

I think Henderson has been good value for money this term. He is cover, and it appears the club will have a lot of young players in the squad next season who will not be ready for week in week out action. Keeping Henderson gives the club a buffer which protects the young kids whilst not improving the team, but not hindering it either.

Maybe had Snitch and Wilkes stayed then the club could’ve let Henderson go, but they didn’t so they need a grafter in the squad.

Hendo, well JK rates him to do a job for the money and i'll go along with that, maybe if we had more cash to spend it would be different.

Surely you can only know hes been good value for money,if you know what he costs?

I just cant believe that theres not another "grafter" out there in NL1/2,who is younger and still has the potential to improve that would be no more expensive than Henderson.

IMO, he’s improved no end this season, also I don’t think the club need to him improve vastly, he does a job now, and for what Kear wants, that may be enough. The improvement will come from the 8 young kids and Ferguson but they need old hands to take the pressure off them. Sam Obst, and I’m sure most of the squad, appreciates when Henderson does and whilst he does not take up an overseas spot that make him a worthwhile signing.

Whilst I don’t know the deal he is on, would you really expect him to be on anything significant when it’s unlikely that any other SL club would come in for him (Celtic aside).

He isn’t the future and should not really be looked upon as that. The club have lost a lot of talent this season and it needs to keep some stability in the squad.

We can't have 'stars' throughout the squad.
In a squad which might on occasions have too many chief and not enough indians Hendo is a indian that will do a job.

Hope these signings are confirmed, George must be due a full season, certainly getting stronger and a full pre-season should make him a force to be reckoned with. Hendo does the dirty work, never shirks a tackle - remember him at BV getting smashed by Fakir? picked himself up shook his head and got on with it, & Fakir went off and missed their next 2 games. We`ve also been pleased with Snitch this year, more carries, tackle busts, metres, and clean breaks than Hendo...BUT %wise Hendo has made more tackles, missed less tackles, made less errors and given away less penalties per game - I rest my case!

So 1 signing and 2 loan signings to be officially announced, then thats it.

Totally agree. He must have been working hard in training because as you say he's improved greatly. I'm glad his non- stop tackling and hard running into much bigger men hasn't gone unnoticed this season with his award by the Wakey express. He never takes a backwards step and has real bottle

I'll stand up to be slated here, but I do not see what he offers that a younger prospect from the NL doesn't. Limited skill level, reasonable tackler, running at times is awful. His main distinction has been an upped effort rate over recent times, arguably coincidental with contract renewal. I can live with the argument of him being value - if he's cheaper than the equivalent replacement from NL, fair enough, but I don't see the need for a two year contract. I'm pretty sure his effort was not as high when he last had the luxury of a longer contract, and I can't see that we'd be in the position of having to be beat other clubs off with a stick to resign him this time next year if we went for the one year option.

3 things to consider:

1 He has played this season mostly in his best position - second row. This is where his work rate comes into its own.
2 As said elsewhere, he misses few tackles and makes few errors. OK he's not very 'dynamic' with the ball - but they can't all be.
3 He is a very decent chap. I know that sounds a bit psycophantic, but it is one of the elements considered strongly by our football committee and good characters in the dressing room are a real bonus.

Overall, and bearing in mind that this is just one small piece of the jigsaw, I am satisfied that this is a good move.

I can accept 3 is perfectly valid factor to be considered. I think 1 and 2 get overstated though. His workrate has been decent when he's played this season, but not as great as some, in an effort to lavish praise on anyone who has donend a Wakey shirt, have suggested. That's about as good as he's got though since c2006, and in between he's slacked when playing for a place and/or contract haven't been so much at stake. My main argument is why 2 years?

I've said on another thread, but I'm not convinced by Henderson either. Hard working, but not got enough for me.
