How much are you up to now? The pressure from below must have forced something from it,not only to survive but also compete. Or are you still no where near the cap?

I get the impression that were trying to get the club a bit more self sufficient by wanting a cowd of a certain number before we spend the cap, which is fair enough.

I think with the cap going up for 2018, this will be a challenge for us, but I thibk our crowds maybe slightly hogher than in 2016 and would hope they are higher still in 2018.

One thing is for sure though, we can vouch for this as Im sure Salford can, spending the full cap doesnt guarantee success

Didn't MC say in his recent interview that we were 250K below and next year might be 300K and used Wimbledon in football as an example why this isn't sustainable so the new stadium income generation plan will mean we can spend nearer to the cap.

Not just Salford, just look at the other clubs who finished below us

Wigan spent last year according to Wigan today, £4.66M salary cap, not bad considering the cap is supposedly set at £1.8M

Doesn't really matter how much the cap is if your wasting it on players that aren't good enough.

I think that figure includes all staff, not just playing squad and marquee players.

From what i can gather, we're about £200k below the next nearest club (probably Widnes) and around £750k below some clubs (Leeds, Wigan etc)

I can't begin to understand RL players wages, how much will someone of Sam Tomkins standing get for a years salary as a Marquee player?

Just reading the marquee rule it states -

Tompkins was on $750,000 AUS in 2014, that's roughly £440,000 now. There's plenty of reports that be he's on £400k+ as a marquee player (roughly 1/4 of our total cap value!!)

I read that in a few places, but nothing official. Tbh though I'd be very surprised if he was. it's one thing the NZ Warrriors chucking that much on him at the time in the NRL but it's another spending a similar amount in this League to get him back. Saying that for all I know he very well could be.

Given his lack of form since returning to SL I'd say if he is on anywhere near that then a) Wigan must be bl00dy crazy and b) the rest of the Wigan squad must look at him and wonder why - perhaps that would explain a little about their attitude??

Perhaps they are crazy, but there's no doubting that when he's on form, he is probably the best FB in SL. I wonder if Wigan are going to find themselves in a bit of financial difficulty now that they're not champions. Finishing top brings better sponsorship and more money, which means you can afford a higher wage bill, without that extra money they could be in difficulty if they don't change their model. They were 600k down when they were champions, it's not going to be any easier this year

As far as England go, Hardaker and Shaul have both had better seasons, but I bet Tomkins gets the shirt.

That was why I couldn't get my head round the figures. Now I know these were only rumours at the time but rumour had it that Rangi Chase in his first stint at Cas was on £165K, I bet Sam Tomkins is on much more than Chase at his best.

Out of curiosity though, the Wigan figure quoted, does that include casual staff, such as turnstile operators and catering/hospitality staff.

During my time at the Rhinos, one of my responsibilities included casual payroll. There were about 30 turnstile operators alone, that was without the staff in the Headingley Experience and Headingley Lodge

I'm sure that would not affect the season he's had for Wakefield, or stop him being compared to the two mentioned in the thread title.
