| Pity we haven't a game he could play in whilst he is over here.

| I'd give him a shirt right now. Bet he could still do a job.

Makes you wonder who'd be the equivalent signing today, assuming there even is one.
Can't think of a modern player who jumps out at you quite as much as Wally did though I accept it's a very different game these days.

| Nobody anywhere near him Vasty and likely never will be. He is to RL what Ali was to boxing.

| Well from the current crop you'd have to say Thurston...
Him and Andrew Johns about on a par for me but, all personal opinion. There's no right or wrong. I have seen some amazing stuff from both

| I think the difference for modern day players is we know all about them.
In the 80s you saw them live or an occasional Macron video after the fact.
Seen every SoO and saw all the touring games including 83 Queens land side
I like lots of other players but he'll always be top for me.

| Along with Ray Price best overseas player ever seen. Remember getting Wally's autograph for my 10 year old son. At Whitehaven, I think it was. He signed it over a photo of himself on the front of Open Rugby magazine. Great player!!!!!!

| Back up for Miller and Finn.
2 year deal is what I had heard
Seriously though I was only young when he was here, but on footage, looked a great player.

| Sadly I only started following Trin maybe a couple of years after Wally was here so I never saw him play. If only.
Out of the Trin players I have seen play Ray Price is up there as probably the best I've seen so I'm with you Redscat. Out of them all though Billy Conway was still my all time favourite.

| Best I ever saw ! The plus was that we got him at 23/24 years old. Saw all his games for Wakefield apart from the one up at Whitehaven (too bl***y cold to go up there that day). He was a class apart then and became even better as he got older. Not sure I'll ever see his like again at Wakefield Trinity.

| I met him in what is now Cats Bar when he had just arrived to give him a Club pullover and tie. He was sat down with a pint of lager in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Didn't effect how he played as he was the best stand off I have ever seen and I have seen some good ones in the last 50 years plus.

| Agree with the comments about Wally L and Ray Price, but I'd like to add another to the list of favourites, Steve Ella - absolute class. James Leuluai was also a favourite. Bring them all back!

| You can also add Henry Paul to that list, even though we only had him for a year he was a dream to watch as a youngster playing with no fear. Agree about Ella and Jimmy, just wish we had got them a few years earlier same with nocker Norton.

| I was only 10 when wally played for Wakefield but even at age I could tell he was on another stratosphere compared to every other player in England. It's hard to describe how good he was because it was just spell binding what he could do..

| On the other side of the coin, probably the most disappointing overseas Trinity player that I can recall was Mark Graham, the New Zealand skipper. He never lived up to the hype.

I thought Graham did alright for us. It was his sidekick Brent Todd who I think was by far the worst overseas player I've ever seen. He was shocking.

Sure you don't mean Brent Todd? Graham wasn't great but he was quite old when he joined us. Todd was a current kiwi international and was utter pants - think we asked him to leave

| I once spotted Wally Lewis cutting a lonely figure sat all by himself in the McDonalds on the corner of Briggate and Boar Lane in Leeds. He was staring thoughtfully out of the window. I can't remember if it was when he was with us or with an Aussi tour.

No, Vasty. It was definitley Mark Graham. In fact, am I right in thinking that he returned home before his contract ended?

Yeah I think he did, however if I recall Todd blamed the club and Toppo in particular whilst Graham at least kept his jap shut and retired.
Funny really because Ella was a bit of a legend at BV in the same team and barely played due to injury.
But fair enough nobody could call Graham a massive success.
