Taken from the VT - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=527705&tsmp=1338453586
Out of that list, who would be realistic targets for the club?
My opinion would be:
[u Wakefield:[/u Paul Johnson, Tim Smith - I'd keep them both, if Tim Smith can play consistantly like he did at Magic.
[u Bradford:[/u Olivier Elima, Bryn Hargreaves, Tom Burgess
[u Hull FC:[/u Mark O'Meley, Sam Moa
[u Hull KR:[/u Liam Watts, Scott Murrell
[u London:[/u Scott Wheeldon
[u Salford:[/u Vinnie Anderson (IF Southern were to leave)
Some really good players on the list, and some players that can definitely build up our pack.

Johnson the club are working on a contract with, Smith has got the rest of the season to earn himself a contract.
Out of the rest id take a punt on O'Meley and Burgess ( as bigger/different props than what we have) and Elima if Southern is off, the rest offer nowt we don't already have.

| Hargreaves is a good shout.
Burgess, not a chance unless the stadium goes super well then maybe.

He's signing a new contract with Hull, I'd rate our chances of prising him away as exceedingly low indeed.

| Watts for me. Young, tough, fairly local lad and as a prop his best years are ahead of him plus him and Ben could car share to training
Him, Elima and then if room, and Hull dont want him, Moa would do for me. Job done.

| I'd love us to sign O'Meley and Elima for next season - they would both be good shouts.
Burgess has too much reflected glory to come here - he's biding his time until Mr Crowe comes calling.
Have we an up to date list of ooc players and the quota situation for next season?

Surely no NRL club would be interesting in signing him ? If he went back over there he would be playing second grade i think.

slightly OT but therein lies the problem with why British RL is lightyears behind the southern hemisphere when it comes to having good strength in depth. clubs fight over someone who would only be 2nd grade down under....
But he would do a job

| Smith has to put together a serious spell of form to convince me to take him on another year, flashes of form are no good if we are to compete for the 8 next season. If this doesnt happen Glover needs to get his chequebook out and show us he's serious about wanting to take his club forward.
A consistent quality half back is vital.

Bit unfair, you'll only have the same next year. Yeah occasionally a H/B is a hit from the start but it's rare. Took BJ a while - Finch at Wigan wasn't an immediate hit but he looks indispensable now. If we keep Smith I would guarantee he will be better next year - whether he's better enough I can't predict.

IMO this won't happen, he probably feels he's spent enough of is money sorting the club/ground out.
I agree a quallity half back woud be nice but i reckon we will only offer what we can afford under gate/sponsorship money and the like.

Let's hope Smith plays out of his skin for the remainder of the season then, a good game against a poor London side should see his confidence levels boosted a bit more. It's a key game this for him to keep the fans off his back.

| For next season I'd see if we could release one of our overseas quota early (possibly Southern) and bring in O'Meley on a 2 year contract plus a young up and coming young prop from the lower leagues, ideally from the Wakefield area maybe Alex Walmsley who has the size at 6 ft 5 inches and is only 21? The impact O'Meley could have on the young pack (Kirmond, Mariano, James, Walshaw & Trout) with Lauitiiti & Wilkes would be immense and may persuade Amor to stay on and not go to Leeds? Think the pack would then have a real edge and threat which is what we need

| I'm not sure offering O'meeley a 2 year deal is the way to go. 1 maybe, but 2 at his age is a no for me.
If the Burgess to Leeds deal that is mentioned earlier in the thread has legs along with Leulai signing for another 12 months I think Kyle might be staying but in reality it's not really up to us or him is it??

Aye, and look at the bunfight that's going on over Matty Smith and Rangi Chase; Wigan are losing Finch and Leuluai and have been battling with Saints for Smith's signature - if they lose out, I'll bet that Rangi Chase ends up at Wigan next season.
A quality half-back is, it seems, worth his weight in gold.

That'll never happen, Chase's contract is worth 600k. Wigan wont pay that.
This must be right Gronk says so.

O'Meley is only 31 and is younger than Lauitiiti & Wilkes who both got 2 year deals? May be the only chance of getting him to WTW would be to secure him on a 2 year deal. If he can prove his fitness then why not? Peacock/Morley are both 2/3 years older than O'Meley and are still playing for the top clubs in Super League. 20 mins each half of O'Meley ripping into the opposition would do WTW for the next 2 seasons.
