Great to see a local lad with fire in his belly about aspirations of been in charge at Wakey in the forseeable future, even with his eventful past its nice to know that his best memories was knocking over the winning drop goal against the old enemy whinos.
I wonder if he has applied for the forthcoming coaching position down Belle Vue, if he has good luck to him because he has Wakey close to his heart.

A question put to his dad Tel last night in the club had he put in for it.No answer but a wry smile from him.Who knows maybe as assistant coach.

That would be the only way it would be acceptable - he'd be massively out of his depth as a Head Coach in SL.

People rabbit about Chase at Cas, NW had more potential than any player out on that field yesterday. Because of injuries/bad career moves he never capitalised upon than that. A crutial part of our aims for the next 3 years should be to unearth the next NW.
IMHO we produce some of the best RL players on the world (on a psr with Wigan) the talent is there, we just need to pay the big bucks to get them in and develop them- stop other clubs profiting from our area!

I don't dispute his potential as a player - my point was about the Head Coach role, for which he is totally unqualified.

At least he shows the right sort of temprement for the club that he still loves, unlike your Nobles etc who wouldnt entertain the club for less than £200k a year.

He has the qualifications, experience in Oz (which counts for a lot apparently) Wire, barrow and U20's with us. Put him under an experienced coach in 2012 & I think he's more that capable of making the step up in a few years.

We seem to be at risk of furiously agreeing with each other - I wouldn't have an issue with him in an assistant coaching role, I just don't think he's anywhere near ready for the top job.

He may be in a few years time though.

Although for my sins I'm a Cas fan, I always admired Nigel as a player. I never agreed with him going to Wigan, I said at the time it would ruin him. He should have stayed with you IMHO. Trouble is we still see the so called big clubs poaching the best players from us lesser lights

I seem to remember when NW went to Wigan he beefed up considerably, something which appeared to stifle his game.

I had the honour of sitting at his table on Saturady and to also listen to his comments during the game - very knowledgable and the club could do a lot worse for an assistant.

I was stood on the balcony with Nigel Wright and Richard Kelly while they discussed the game and have to say they saw things in so much depth that I was left feeling like I knew nothing about rugby

Nigel obviously has a lot of feeling for the club and is certainly one for the future

You must have been stood very close to me then. I spoke to Richard after the game too about several issues at depth and he certainly know's his stuff.

Exactly - I can't understand why, on the verge of potentially turning this club back into one that can genuinely compete, some people seem determined to maintain a small-time mindset that will see us appoint an unqualified coach simply on the grounds of being a good bloke, a once great player or a great servant to the club.

Sod that - I want a well-qualified, time-served, hard-nosed and ruthless winner in charge of my club, not someone who can talk a good game.

I didn't say that i wanted him to be first team coach, merely that we could do worse for an assistant. Especially if an experienced person is selected for the no 2 to learn off and then take over in a few years. As i said in the other thread, my choice would be Gentle (if he is all that he appears) with Cummins as no 2. But i would be equally as happy if the no 2 were given to Poching/Wright. But not JD just yet.

I'm not saying Wright should be coach, but it's a bit unfair to call him unqualified when people calling for Morrison who certainly has less qualifications and experience in coaching that Wright.
