Let's look at the facts - when was the last time we won a truly competitive game in the cup against decent opposition?

Every year is the same, we go only as far as we draw a decent side - even with the 'Cup King' Kear.

I never really felt that we were going to win today after the first 10 minutes. Wigan were superior to us in all departments and exploited us all over the park.

If that was a performance from a side fired up for a one-off situation, then I dread what is left to come this year.

Depressed - hell yes - today is my birthday and with another year on the clock it just seems like it will be business as usual with all the team bonding and stuff, which I allowed myself to believe could carry us through, no longer a match for more determined opponents.

You're right though - the only 'half' who stood out was Latu - Drew / Obst / Brough did not do enough to contruct us a result today!

Only my opinion but Frank didnt look very match fit, after every tackle he was stood waiting to catch his breath and then when he had to make a tackle he made it look like such hard work. Brad wasnt his usual self and poor sam yet again just couldnt get to where he wanted to be. Such a shame we lost but not a shock

Absolutely spot on !! Too many little guys on the pitch at one time i.e Leo, Obst, Drew, Brough and in Obst case he was generally in the first tackle as the pack were getting mauled - he was knackered and couldnt attack were as Drew and Brough simply had shocking games going forward !! I though Leo did quite well going forward but we just lacked the power in the pk today to live with Wigan and were making yards in all departments... The sooner Stotic and Bibey get back the better as were quite a young pk and its starting to show !!

Sam didnt have a chance m8 - he was shattered having to do all the tackling !!

When was last time we beat a SL team in Challenge cup?

Id have to say Cas about 5 seasons back ??

He got absolutely bullied in defence, him and drew were the reasons for them breaking up through the middle all the time, he puts effort in but today he was the reason for so many easy yards been given away.

As far as I am aware we have only ever beaten a SL team once in the cup
and that was Widnes. Yes TRB you are correct our cup record is pathetic.

10 yrs in SL and we've only beaten a sl team once, jesus christ didnt know it'd go so bad.

he must of missed at least ten tackles today if anyone has taped it have a look, he went for them all and got knocked off or missed them

I think the tally is 2 - we also beat Cas at BV once - in a TV game!

oh dear it wasnt that bad they were running at sam and drew alday,need some grunt up front 2 many small players showed up big 2day,got some bad calls from bentham,shocking forward passes but dont get depressed on yr bday u only get 1 a yr

Don't think so, infact I can't even remeber the widnes win but it was away from home by all acounts.

Thought it was more than once, even so its a terrible record, wonder if kear is looking forward to this audience with ...

I said it after the league game a couple of weeks back and I'll say it again now

JK got outcoached by Noble
JK made the same mistake as before in having too many small players on the pitch together for too long.

When you take into account that Martin has played as a half back for the majority of the season and JD has spent almost all his career as a centre, you cannot have Brough, Obst, Latu and Drew on the pitch all at the same time!

When this was the case our forwards are doing too much work, the opposition are making too much ground and too many half breaks.This means that players like Moore, Wilkes etc.. are having to retreat further and cover more ground resulting in them being fatigued.

It was while this was the case that Fielden scored his try, walking through three very tired defenders, something he has'nt done for four years.

Immediately after that Noble sent on Paleasina and Sam Tomkins to exploit our fatigue.

Whatever we do at that stage is irrelevant as the damage is done and we are too tired to get back on top.

2002 mate! I have it recorded and just checked the label!

It's still rubbish - and it'll now be at least 8 years without a victory against a SL side in the CC - and we wonder why no-one comes to watch!!!!!

Since 1979 the only time I ever got exited by a Wakefield cup run was last year. We are incapable of beating a decent team in the cup because our form is so much peaks and troughs. Every time we are up against a decent side we are in a troughs like today!
