| They want fixtures reduced, which you can see there point. The games is getting expensive to follow with London, Celtic, Magic Weekend and Catalans.
I know you don't have to go to them all but I hate missing games and will miss the game on Saturday! But will hopefuly be going to Harlequins.

Good job you don't follow a top football side who play in Europe every season then, isn't it.
It's an event which gets extra publicity for the sport and the competition in the media, every game on telly this year for those who can't make it, and a chance to show a new 'live' audience the sport at the top level, and how supporters of all clubs can mix without a problem.
What concerns me is....
Quote ="James Graham"A lot of players aren't too fussed with it.'"
Well, you're a "professional" player - play the game or get another job. I'm sure someone else would love the chance to...

| Not sure that the Magic weekend adds much to the requirements of the players, as it is just another weekly fixture. More importantly, it is a good excuse for a knees-up, and gives a chance to promote the game (ie, gives it an advertising angle). Maybe it is time to scrap the Easter Monday game. The Good Friday derby games are good, but Easter Monday is just a bolt-on.

Football has always been expensive! I am talking about RUGBY a sport which used to be reasonable to follow finance wise, but of late it is getting expensive to follow your team!
Let’s face it Cardiff was not exactly a success and tbh I can’t see this one working in Edinburgh, but maybe I will be proved wrong.

| I think it's a great event and with time will become a highly attended event.
The price is fair in my opinion, tickets are cheap and if you organised it early then you got reduced prices on the trains for 30 quid return (if you're flexible) as i did!
Granted with expansion comes longer trips which are more expensive but it's great for the game to spread it's wings and hopefully entice new fans

I looked at train prices in November time, and was told it would be £88 return. Was getting quoted silly prices for room, so I gave up on it. In truth it does not appeal to me like Cardiff did but in the money I save I will go to Quins and Celtic maybe.

| Maybe after too many highly populated areas (cities) have been invited into Super League then maybe even saints will get squeezed out.

| I agree to this snippet
The time and money spent on the Magic Weekend should be spent on an area like Cumbria ...

| sorry i hate it and will never go, and i think a lot of people will vote with their backsides on sofas this weekend, as ive said on another thread the money spent on this one would get you a sky subscription for a season.
quarter full murrayfield does nothing for the game at all, no other sport does this and we should stop.

So not even attracting locals into see something they might enjoy and not had the chance to see before is a good thing?

Football used to be cheap until all seater stadiums, SKY and the Premiership. Pretty similar to rugby.

do you seriously then think they are going to commute to wakefield wigan and bradford every week? no!
dont think it brings anything at all, except a random fixture in a distant land.

True....but they might travel to Wembley or Old Trafford - they might even want to play or follow a local amateur side.
Anything we, as a sport, can do to grow interest in a new area is a good thing.

ok good point but thats half a franchises minimum and about 5 quid a game, i just think what it gains in scotland it loses with fans from down here feeling ripped off.
ok switch it round the scottish premier league want to expand, as they do, you really think there going to go with all 20 odd teams to old trafford just on the outside chance we may want to go see an old firm derby some day?, no!
the economics of it dont work and i think it does the sport more harm than good.
but its only an opinion.

| Whilst I accept there are good arguments for and against the concept of the Magic weekend, for me the major plus point is that it is a great showcase for the RL 'family' (which we have certainly witnessed and appreciated at our club recently).
The fact that fans from 14 teams can come together and a have good time is a great PR exercise for the sport.

sorry again i disagree its only one pr image
a half empty stadium will be far more damaging than the "oh isnt it friendly in rl" stuff.
and since when did scots sports fans want to mingle like long lost chums with english ones?? they still have the posts from wembley!

Rugby will never become that expensive. Cost of a match day ticket for some teams could get you a season ticket for Wakey

Having attended games and held season tickets for both a Super League rugby team and premiership football team and having attended both pre super league and pre premiership I can tell you that the increase in price is pretty similar especially when you consider the number of home games played.

Wakey £10/£18 to get in.
Football, last time I went to a game £45.
Hell of a difference.
