| =#FF0000Castleford Scholarship Vs Wakefield Trinity Scholarship (U16s)
Saturday 19th April, Kick Off 12:00
Wheldon Rd
it would be great to see some of you there to support the lads in this local derby game!
I often see questions being asked about the relative success re 1873 and whether or not supporters should join up or stay as members in the lottery, well here's a little glimpse of how it's helping the club succeed.
first of all without sounding condescending, does everyone know how the 1873 Club is helping?
its not particularly meant to be there for contributing to the wages of players produced by our junior system but rather as a way of helping to fund the Junior infrastructure and environment which in turn helps us attract and keep some of the best prospects from the Yorkshire region.
The facilities at the clubs disposal have increased in quality, our ability to mentor players one to one, provide both team and individual video analysis to all our youth players in a very cutting edge and professional manner, we now film the vast majority of training sessions so that the coaches can review the technique of players post session and it also helps the Coach's assess their own performance and delivery further improving future sessions. The ability to access the kind of individual data provided by Opta that we expect and take for granted at Senior level but which is perhaps more essential during the developmental years of young athletes aged 15 to 19.
Daft as it sounds the provision and renewal of training gear and top quality equipment such as rudimentary stuff like balls, cones, speed ladders, hurdles, slalom poles but more importantly expensive equipment like electronic speed gates, GPS systems and the laptops and software and the training to go with it. All this stuff is essential in Benchmark testing and measuring the improvement of modern day elite young athletes. Whatsmore the young athletes we are trying to attract EXPECT this level of provision and scrutiny especially those who are also being courted by Wigan, Leeds, Sts etc...
The changes and improvements made to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Scholarship scheme has allowed us to be more than competitive with our usual adversaries but has also got the likes of Wigan and Leeds thinking again about how they might stay ahead of us (or catch back up).
This is only a glimpse and certainly not an exhaustive list of how the Club 1873 is improving our player pathways.
Club 1873 IS WORKING and with more members it will be the platform from which we become a much stronger more self sustaining club with more home grown players in the first team.
The next time 1873 Club membership is called into question please remember some of the above but most of all remember that because of the above we now have some of the best young players choosing Wakefield Trinity over Wigan, Leeds and the rest.
As further evidence please see the England U16s starting line up for their first Test against France in the next few days.

| Thanks, Clan, for this illuminating piece. Just think what a success story we would have if Heckford, Smith & English from Stanley and Sunderland from Normanton had elected for Wakefield instead of joining rival clubs. But this is a massive step forward from some very dark times in the not too distant past.

Exactly, I could name names of other players who were torn in two about which club to join and we narrowly missed out, however not so many years ago we wouldn't have even been in consideration.

| Great stuff. Hopefully by the time these kids are ready for first team action we'll have a coach who recognises what we have at the club and gives them every opportunity to make it.

| Update on the England Youth Test Match against France
Wakefield player Will Dagger had a strong game and grabbed a try while Liam Paisley reportedly caused all sorts of problems for the French and set up another try for England
France Youth 14, England Youth 21
[iEngland Youth dug deep to take first blood with victory in the opening match of the two-Test series against their French counterparts in Entraigues sur Sorgue last night (Friday).
The tourists twice came from behind to get the better of France with a strong second half display that featured a try, two goals and a drop-goal by Morgan Smith, the Leeds Rhinos and Stanley Rangers scrum-half who proved a danger throughout.
France took an early lead with a try by full-back Luc Franco, converted by Sophien Bitigzi before England responded with a try from Warrington Wolves and Latchford Albion winger Jack Fox.
Smith could not add the goal and was again off target after Will Dagger, the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Castleford Panthers wing, had edged his team ahead with a try on 31 minutes.
A try by Bitigzi four minutes later took France to the break with a 10-8 advantage to set up a pulsating second half played in perfect conditions.
The second quarter belonged to England who, roared on by some vocal support from their travelling parents, gained the ascendency with two more tries, the first by Max Dudley of Wigan Warriors and Wigan Judes who was quickly followed over by Smith, who added both conversion.
France hit back with a try by winger Corentin Adel but a drop-goal from Smith nine minutes from the end completed the scoring and sealed a fine win for coach Stu Barrow’s team.
“I am delighted, not just by the result but by the performance: the boys can feel proud of their efforts tonight,” said Barrow.
“We knew it was going to be tough and very physical and the French held nothing back but we stood up well defensively and showed some great resilience to get the result.
“There are still some areas in which we need to improve but I can’t fault the players for their attitude and application.”
[/iBarrow has a 35-man squad at his disposal and is expected to ring the changes for the next match of England Youth’s three-match tour against a French President’s XIII on Monday (4.00pm) before naming his team for the second Test against France Youth in Toulon on Tuesday (7.00pm).
The England Youth team v France Youth was as follows (community club and professional club shown in brackets):

Josh Ganson (Blackbrook, St Helens)
Connor Sunderland (Normanton Knights, Leeds Rhinos)
Jack Wells (Folly Lane, Wigan Warriors)
Jordan Lane (West Hull, Hull FC)
Cameron Smith (Castleford Panthers, Leeds Rhinos)
Interchange

It strikes me that you'll do anything to have a pop at the current youth side; it can't be the players, so I assume you have a beef with one or more of the coaches?

What has having an opinion on how well the academy is doing got to do with a 'team sheet'?
I agree that perhaps one should be provided, but perhaps it is a matter of priorities.
I don't get a team sheet when entering the ground for 1st team fixtures, do you?

Sorry for the delay; I'm not permanently logged in hitting refresh, just in case you 'need an answer.'
I'm frankly unmoved by how long you've been involved in junior rugby - it's irrelevant; your point was that not providing a team sheet is 'pathetic' and that it is somehow an indication that the academy set-up is not as good as has been described; in my view, that's a stupidly over the top way of describing what is a very minor issue.
You illustrate my broader point by making barbed comments about the young players; nobody said they were 'extra special,' but there is a justifiable sense that we have some promising lads at U16 and they are obviously well coached. That can only be a good thing and given your devotion to youth rugby, I'm surprised you don't agree.
As I said - it sounds to me like you have an agenda.

If you were that interested you'd know that the U16s game was played at Castleford so maybe you should go on their forum to tell them how crap they are, Surely it's their job to produce a team sheet.
Taking any old excuse to have a go at the young kids who are doing we'll has shown you up for what you are, a bitter, jealous old has been or never was who can't stand being left behind.
You really are a bit of a fool, once again you've trotted out the old tired line about how good you are and how long you've been involved. No doubt one of your next answers will name drop Jason Robinson, Paul Newlove and blah blah blah get over yourself, that is if you're telling the truth which I doubt.
Do us all a favour and go train spotting, fishing, ballroom dancing or something and leave the kids alone

| Firstly bren where did I say it was pathetic, I asked a perfectly reasonable question about team sheets other clubs provide them what's the problem with us .Most people attending these games are parents and relatives of the players and know most of the teams but folk like myself who are just fans of the youth game find it more interesting if you know who's.playing don't need need you and your deputy the Avenger to give me a lecture by the way still haven't got an answer presume you don't know.Nathan avenger didn't go to cas but always been given one on previous visits, but my question was to do with games at bell vue.I'll try and answer you phe as I've said previously games are much more interesting and enjoyable if you know the names of players particularly the away team as you like to follow the progress made by players team sheets allow you to do this

Agree entirely, on a similar note the pa system cannot be heard in the North stand, so you spend the first part of the game trying to work out who is on the pitch and especially frustrating is not knowing who our subs are. We usually resort to tinterweb at the games in order to ascertain who is playing!

You mean like all the posts where I've spoken about Jowitt, Swann, Crowther, Johnstone etc who are all in the under 19s but to answer your assertion directly, I've no connection other than watching nowadays.
The question asked was about the U16s, the U19s we're never mentioned until your last post. You have an agenda as Bren2K said, it's obvious and the really sad thing is that whoever you have a grievance with it's the young lads who bear the brunt of your ridiculous sweeping statements.
