I agree that our squad lads not getting the opportunities in the first team should be given the chance to go out on dual registration, and I apologise if any supporter, Wakey or Donny, gets upset about this, but I can't see the benefit of our first team squad going out to clubs in Championship 1. Having watched the likes of Danny Cowling and Russ Spiers come through the ranks of the 18's and reserves, they are quality players who should be pitting themselves against other potential super league players of similar capabilities. I'm not putting Donny down, as they have amassed a good side, but I think our squad lads should be given a chance at no lower than the Championship level, so that when, if ever they are called upto the Wakey 1st team, they have faced some intensity in a game putting them in good stead to compete effectively at that level.
Cowling put his winger in for 2 tries, and set up another couple, and Spiers scored one of the better prop forward tries this year, beating 3 players on his way in from 35 yards.
Good stuff - these lads are being developed properly by being sent on loan and DR deals and hopefully, they'll make the best of their opportunities and come back that bit closer to being ready for SL.
Kids like these could be the backbone of a more homegrown WTW side in the future - good luck to 'em.
Unfortunately for Danny, after scoring a try yesterday, he left the action with about 15 minutes left, with a nastily broken left index finger. The picture of the injury is doing the rounds on Twitter, but I'm not going to post it on here.
