To have such a blinkered view of a game that you feel compelled to include every single penalty/incident in which you feel so badly, horribly done by - whilst totally ignoring any indiscretions/possible indiscretions from your own side, IS pathetic. Its a bit like sitting down to watch a movie with some friends and then hogging the remote control to fast forward through all the bits that you, personally, don't like.

| Quote ="Jim Bergerac"Some of these comments on 'spoiling tactics' and 'dirty play' are reminiscent of remarks made by Cougars fans in the mid-90's when our team of free transfers used to beat your expensive big names at both Cougar Park and Mount Pleasant. Come on, at least wait until your side are at the top end of the league before starting with this tripe. As for the 'turned from a free flowing side into a bunch of spoilers' rubbish, did you ever watch us under Harrison???!!! We played some of the most negative, unattractive rugby I've ever seen at Batley during that period. Although it was successful, and is what makes Harrison a good coach, we were massively boring to watch at times.
Oh, and finally, thanks for the heavily-edited match highlights on Youtube - a real 'video nasty'. Some of your fans seem to have what I like to call 'St.Helens syndrome', screaming vehemently for an offence every other second. At one stage I heard cries for 'offside', 'high tackle' and 'holding down' all within a single play.'"
Oh that's so precious!
You should come on here more often and give us all a good laugh
I could understand your attitude if i had come on your site trolling, but really, if you don't want to hear opinions you don't like then maybe you should just sit in a corner staring at the wall.
For what its worth, I have every respect for the slow but steady progress that Batley have made over recent years, they have set a good example to many. I am more than happy to applaud good play from the opposition and I did applaud your final tries, however much they hurt. Having said that, I still maintain that your SPOILING tactics were a poor example of rugby.
If you want to have a hissy fit over other peoples opinions, that's your problem. Have a nice day now

| My view of yesterdays game is that for the majority the cougars were the better side and can count themselves unlucky not to come away with the victory. But the comments above about spoiling tactics and the standard of refereeing way are off the mark. I understand we all tend to lean in favour of our own side as im sure i myself am guilty, but you have to keep some kind of perspective. The reason keighley lost the game yesterday was there lack of fitness and lack of hunger. Batley although playing nowhere near to their full potential, played for the full 80 minutes as opposed to keighley who seemed to switch off after 65. Talk of laying on in the tackle and to quote an above post "the worst display of reffing i have ever seen" smacks of sour grapes and detracts from what was for 3/4 of the game a strong keighley performance.

You have no idea of the person posting that comment.
How many games they have seen. Or the standard of reffing at said games.
That persons opinion, it may well have been the worse reffing they have ever seen.
For you or anyone else to read that, that is sour grapes is the strange thing.

Can't see why it should "[ismack of sour grapes[/i", It's an opinion. If Keighley fans had come on your site and others, making unreasonable claims then you might have a point, but we have not.
Anyway, at the risk of being [ia very naughty boy[/i I'll say it again, for a big portion of the game Batley played SPOILING tactics. (it must be good for at least half a dozen more bites)

No it is not sour grapes it is a comment I made after watching his comedy of continuous errors. In my opinion it was these errors such as several missed knock ons etc that kept Batley in the game and as for allowing that first try, when he was there to see it,, that beggared belief.
See it in this vid and tell me that was a try. I think not.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=--DZazcBYyA
One point of note from the vid at about the 1.20 point is the Batley number 3 flying through the gap in the railing and sign boarding. He did very well to not end up injured.

| I personally am gutted that we lost a close and entertaining match. The team slowed down and needed to stick at it the 80 minutes. That said I thought Batley played a rougher game than us but they kept getting away with it... still not nice to watch. They got away with a lot I thought: several forward passes and were miles offside on a few occasions. I have just watched the video and it confirmed a few incidents I couldn't quite call from where I stood.
I thought the ref was poor and seemed to make some inconsistent decisions... like we apparently played the ball wrong once (Duffy I think) then Batley did the same thing twice unpunished. Unfortunately I have seen worse performances by referees.
Nevermind, I hope we improve again for Toulouse.

Rach, to quote one of your supporters
Two of us have mentioned we saw things we were not happy with. Thats not really a case of all Keighley supporters is it.
Don't judge us all by the comments of one. The discussions today have all been typical fayre for after a match. After next weekends match, all this will be forgotten and we can all get back to appreciating both clubs and their supporters. From my perspective, I think some of your supporters have made accusations that seem fairly extreme, but we move on!

How on earth was that guy "fit" to referee a professional game of rugby league?
Look at the size of that gut it's even bigger than mine!

Fair play and can take all that on board ......but my comments were not guided by anything that happened on the field ...
As I have said before Mike's efforts are all his own for his club , if we went and publicly slated the efforts of those from BISSA and your fans who work tirelessly for the Batley Club without numeration or recognition , as 'Jimbergerac; has done on here , I would expect the same reaction from yourself ...
The Comments of One can taint a whole club and your post-er should remember that ...

| Can I just say as a neutral taken to the game by my brother in law (a keighley Fan as we were there for Sunday dinner) I thought it was a pretty decent game, the refereeing was just like any other sunday, with inconsistencies in decisions affecting both sides, although it certainly was not a game you would leave and say that any decision the referee made had been a factor in the result.
There were two turning points in the game, the first one being the introduction of Moore (not sure why he was on the bench) who's kicking game was a vast improvement on the non existent one prior to his introduction, giving Batley greater field position and turning your forwards around every time.
Keighley were bringing the ball back from very deep in their own half set after set. This had a huge effect on the fitness of your forwards in the latter stages of the game on a heavy pitch. The second one for me was the nothing kick by Danny Jones down the left, which gave Batley the field position where they eventually scored from, and immediately after keighley panicked and batley stepped up a gear. Once Batley took the lead, their sturn defence, that they had shown in the early stages came to the fore, and on the back of more punishing field kicks your forwards were dead on their feet and batley closed shop. I thought they nicked the game, when keighley possibly should have held on, but Batley are one of those sides that never go away until the final whistle, and I am sure that they will do the same to other sides this season. Keighley should certainly be around the top 6 though on that showing.

| john kears game plan worked with the playing area. he went back to playing one up rugby for 65 minutes and then when you was knackered he let the likes of black, moore throw the ball around and you couldn't cope. i thought semi T got tackled out of the game by his opposite centre walton every time same with korki smith and potter took him down everytime. but i don't how batley were offside everytime and penalty count be so high against us at keighley 7-2 them keighley glasses work well..

To be fair you did give a lot of pens away. I though it was mainly due to the Dogs struggling to cope with the Cougars.
As for the video highlights I didn't bother watching them as I just attended the game.

bit puzzled at this statement.....batleys cup final ?? against a side that have just come up from Championship one, who they also beat twice the season before once by around 50 points if i recall, won the Northern rail cup, and last season finished around thid or fourth ? and already beaten KC in a pre season friendly ???
have i missed the pun somewhere ???
As I said the forwards had been turned around deep into their own half on countless occassions, and this was a factor in the game. That unfortunately is what coaching is about and I did say before the game i was a little suprised at the amount of halves and hookers in the keighley 17, and March for starters should not have been played instead of a forward.
Fair play to JD, he held his hand up to a very naive mistake, which im sure his former mentor Kear would have picked up on and exploited.

He did admit to being too lightweight in the pack after the game.
I have to admit I was a little surprised when I saw Jy-Mel Coleman on the team sheet at Loose Forward. No disrespect to Jy-Mel, he's a quality half back, but I'd much rather see us use a 3rd prop at 13 over a 3rd half back.

I think his tongue was firmly in his cheek when he posted this.
On the other hand he could have been serious.....
Some Batley fans are getting rather excited by our comments on here and whilst I'm all for a bit of banter, some of them have gone all girly on us. Only time will tell if the keep net gets fuller.

The Batley 1st try was a joke.
The ref who collected and thought he deserved his pay for awarding it likewise.
A player lands on his ball carrying arm, he is tackled.
He can't pass the ball forward then after that.
If it could be seen from the other end of the field I don't know how the ref
didn't see it as he was stood over it.
I wouldn't mind but he continued the rest of the game with a similar
standard.

Jim - I do edit it. Otherwise it would not be a highlights video. I also show what I see. If Cougars play well, I show the good. If the other team play well, I show that also. If we play badly I show that. Note our visit to your place in 2010. I would not describe it as a video nasty. It was the best / worst bits whichever way you look at it as I saw it. If you don't like it don't watch it.
IMO these teams are very close in standard. I do think on this occasion the ref helped Batley a little. What goes around comes around and there will be other weeks when ref decisions favour us. (I hope) Part of the game.
Also IMO the try by the Batley number 4, or more the build up and way the try was made was class. This was the one that took it to 16 - 12

When a team loses there is always a blame the referee post. The referee got decisions wrong for both sides. The 1st Batley try was a try look in Monday's Rugby League Express.
The difference between the two sides on Sunday was fitness. The Keighley team was not fit enough to compete for the full 80 minutes against Batley. Keighley will get fitter but the worry for Keighley is when the grounds get firmer and next week against a Toulouse side whose match fitness will also be much better than Keighley's.
Batley like Keighley is a new team so expected a tough game at Keighley but when the Batley team does gel we will be a match for any team.
The plus for Keighley was the crowd of over 1,000. Hope you win in Toulouse and all the best for the rest of the season (except against Batley).

Quote ="MICKY1920"The Batley 1st try was a joke.

Yes, I've had a quick look on your site, there are lots.

Agreed

If all we did was believe the gospel according to Batley, the RL Express etc. then there wouldn't be much to debate over would there?

I wouldn't disagree with much of that.
FWIW I have every respect for the progress Batley have made over the last few years. I just find it amusing that some of your fans want to throw girly strops over some of the comments we have made, especially when you look at some of the things your fans post on your website and on those of others.
