I still think the most disappointing aspect of his regime was his neglect of Paul Scholes, however. Instead of shunting him onto the left wing as a poor fix he should have built a team around him IMO, and maybe then we wouldn't have lost who I regard as the best English player of the last 20 years to a disillusioned retirement.

He's an ex-Arsenal player. He's given the media plenty of ammunition to paint him as an utter tvvat. He has acted like a petulant child a few times with refs.

Even with those factors, I doubt there's more than a handful of Chelsea fans who think that Cole has been anything other than a very, very good player for Chelsea.

Can't comment on last night because I don't bother to watch England matches, but if he was poor then I'm just glad it was with England because he's usually very good for us.

their all saying Shearers the saviour and he's the man to turn the club around but haven't we heard all this before when Keegan came back.

At least Shearers lack of experience has been offset with the appointment of the great managerial mind of Ian Dowie as his assistant

Shearer has pulled a blinder, If they go down its not his fault as he came in to late and if he keeps them up he is idolised even more than he is now.

If he'd have stepped into the breach the moment Kinnear had the op then fair enough, seems to me he's ego soothing

That said, I thought Shearer was excellent in his press conference today and I liked his dig about Dowie. Almost as impressive as that island of hair that refuses to give up on the front of Shearer's bald pate.

By all means have a go at Newcastle fans and the bandwagon that people jump on, but remove the hatred from the fore-front of your mind and look at the facts first pal.

Firstly, no one hates Newcastle. Sorry to break this to you, but they've lurched from mediocre to average for the majority of their existence - I doubt anyone without a geographical reason gives that much of a sh*t about them. They get talked about on here because they are a great source of comedy.

Secondly, Ashley has made plenty of mistakes and I never suggested he didn't. Appointing Keegan was a huge mistake. Then again, most Newcastle fans won't agree with that because Keegan is one of the Geordie faithful's messiahs. So they don't criticise him for that. No, they wait until Keegan bottles it (again) and then blame Ashley for that.

Thirdly, if Newcastle get relegated, it will be Ashley's fault. If Newcastle's stay up, it will be Shearer's. The reality is, with around a fifth of the season to go, they'll both be to blame, whatever happens. But the only person to blame will be Ashley, and the only person who'll get credit will be 'Wor Al' you know it, and I know it. And if you're honest, you'll admit that that approach is complete bollox.
